Botchford: Canucks tell Higgins it?s time to go

My bad. Misread the quote, which was from Bob McKenzie and that the Canucks were not going to place him on waivers that day.

Sad to see it, but it's also how the league has become. No place for dead weights.

If they continue to under perform, Weber and Burrows might be shown the door too.

Nabatron 01-12-2016 09:06 AM

i think they will keep bur! as for weber they will play out his contract which is at the end of the year and wont resign him...hopefully give more playing time to pedan instead!

Jmac 01-12-2016 09:13 AM

To be fair to Burrows, he's produced way more while getting less opportunity than Higgins. Still far less productive than a $4.5M player should be, though (pace for 10g, 24p).

Weber has been complete garbage. Even last night, skates himself in a corner, throws a blind backhand pass into the middle which results in a 3-on-1 shortly before Virtanen scored the game-tying goal. Could've easily been the dagger if not for Markstrom bailing him out.

bossha 01-12-2016 09:54 AM

Did anybody find out what sparked the bench clearing ?

6o4__boi 01-12-2016 09:56 AM

no details but my money is on Shawn Thornton being a bitch
how is that old fuck still in hockey lol

i love the response though
Sedins just don't give a fuck at this stage in their careers, they ain't taking shit

Before, the mantra was to play smart. Draw the extra penalty and make them pay on the scoreboard.

That's probably not gonna work with this team for the next little while. So I'm glad that they're at least showing more emotions on the ice. Don't really care if they take stupid penalties over it either. They've taken enough abuse throughout their careers.

Technically, they turned the other cheek.
Won the game and did the fly by on the other team's bench. :troll:

And it's not just to the other team. That game in TB, Daniel did the stare down on the refs too when they scored the tying goal IIRC.

cdizzle_996 01-12-2016 10:25 AM

Higgy's officially on waivers

Nabatron 01-12-2016 10:32 AM

^thanks for that one bro!

so what happens when he clears?

do they make him report to Utica? or do they buy him out?
I never quite understood this part of the game. How will the buy out work?

murd0c 01-12-2016 11:36 AM

He will either report to Utica or they will tell him not to report and he will be bought out once the season is over. He will still be getting full NHL salary if he's playing in Utica or they tell him not to report.

Assuming he clears, the Canucks can:
- Keep him with the team. Clearing waivers isn't an obligation to assign the player to the minors, but they can choose to do so at any point within a certain time period (I believe it's 30 days; don't have CBA handy at the moment)
- Assign him to Utica immediately, in which case, he can choose not to report (and, therefore, not get paid) or he can report and continue to receive his NHL salary.
- Assign him to Kalamazoo (ECHL) with permission from the player to do so. This is basically unheard of, but it can technically be done.
- Send him home, like they did with Tom Sestito last season. The player would still be payed his full salary and the team wouldn't risk having him injured, which is key for a buyout.
- Place him on Unconditional Waivers for the purpose of terminating the contract if the player and the team mutually agree to terminate the contract. This is common with players who have 2-way contracts as they're likely to get paid more in Europe than in the AHL. Given that Higgins has a little more than $3.5M remaining on his 1-way contract, I'd say it's highly unlikely he'd want to terminate his contract.

Buyouts, with extremely rare exceptions, happen during the offseason.

From what I've read, Benning intends to assign him to Utica.

6o4__boi 01-12-2016 11:53 AM

So if he goes to Utica or get sent home a la Sestito...are the Canucks still on the hook for his full cap hit? or is that reduced?

highfive 01-12-2016 11:57 AM

Hire Jmac to be the Canucks new capologist!

In either of those cases, it would be his full cap hit ($2.5M) minus the 2-way maximum NHL salary ($0.95M), so a $1.55M cap hit.

CRS 01-12-2016 12:12 PM

Kevin Connauton on waivers guys. He's probably worth a pick up. Can't be worse than Weber.

Ronin 01-12-2016 12:40 PM

I had to look up who we got for Connauton.

Derek Roy. Geez, that was a disaster...

6o4__boi 01-12-2016 01:00 PM

So many D on waiver earlier that JB passed up on
he's got Pedan on the wings that's infinitely better than Bartkowski or Weber

Alas, we're stuck with watching those two clowns the rest of the year for the tank

Pedan has been re-assigned back to Utica this morning.
Something is in the works. Best guess is Sbisa is back for game 1 or game 2 of the road trip.
That or they plan on picking up Cannauton.

Nabatron 01-12-2016 01:28 PM

^most likely sbisa is back....someone was sayin on twitter that Jb might try and go after big buff in the summer time just imagine the dcore...

big buff-hutton
edler-tanev
