I can't believe Eddie Lack went for scraps

JesseBlue 06-27-2015 10:41 AM

so...on to free agent day :toot:

hypediss 06-27-2015 10:52 AM

i would hope we wont make any moves when free agency starts especially when we should emphasize on giving the kids the chance to play at the nhl level ..

one thing we need less is another journeyman signing to fill up a roster spot that could better be used for up and comers..

first chinese born hockey player to be drafted in nhl by new york islanders

RevYouUp 06-27-2015 12:12 PM

What a lackluster trade

On a second note, a Chinese born defenseman was drafted

http://www.cbc.ca/m/sports/hockey/nh...raft-1.3130538

Seems like an avg defenseman, Chinese islanders owner was probably biased towards him lol

6thGear. 06-27-2015 12:28 PM

Biased or not, its still a feat in itself. He coud've gone undrafted and no one would have ever known he existed

Jmac 06-27-2015 12:40 PM

I remember in NHL 13, I believe, where there would be like a half-dozen to a dozen "Rest of World" prospects every draft in BAGM, mostly from China or North Korea. They toned it down in recent years (NHL 15 for PS3 rarely has any ROW prospects; not sure about PS4/XB1).

At least the China part doesn't seem so far-fetched now.

RevYouUp 06-27-2015 12:51 PM

Yea, I'm proud of the dude. But just seems weird, there's like a ton of CBC players that get undrafted that are probably a bit better than him

Jmac 06-27-2015 12:57 PM

Pronger, Grossman to Arizona for Gagner, conditional draft pick :lawl:

Director of Player Safety waives NMC to get Arizona to the salary floor.

Eklund implying Marc Savard is on his way to Arizona as well.

Maloney: "All your perpetual LTIR player with insured contract are belong to us."

@KKurzCSN:
Hearing that the Vancouver Canucks are none too happy with the way #SJSharks handled potential Bieksa deal…for whatever that’s worth

6o4__boi 06-27-2015 02:34 PM

Lol Canucks will try anything to distract anyone from the dumpster fire that's been blazing the past couple of days.

yeah all those CBC's in VIHL :troll:

Nabatron 06-27-2015 04:20 PM

Was very disappointed banning didn't get at least a 2nd rounder! Also not impressed with him not dumping some salary in Higgins, bieksa and maybe even burr

Hahaa... He loves HIGGY, guy can do no wrong

Sigh this is going to be one long ass season...
- Anaheim and Los Angeles are going to rag-doll us every game.
- The team that embarrassed us in the playoffs just got a year of experience to their young talented core (Gaudreau-Monahan). Added a stud defensemen from Boston and not to mention getting their Norris-caliber captain back.
- Edmonton drafted Crosby 2.0, got bigger on D and might finally have a legit netminder to go with their scary Top-6 forwards. Oh and the overhaul of management, Chiarelli is a magician, Benning is a sitting duck. McLennen will have a much better system than Eakins (who has resorted to coaching in the AHL)

I guess it's just us and San Jose hanging out. Reminds me of the TD Commercial.

Linden's comments about the market value of Lack.

For what's it worth, the goalie market heading into the draft was not that hot.

Did I want Benning to get the team a 2nd round and 3rd round draft pick for this year's draft? Hell yeah. A reality check today given the availability of other goalies.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/c...er-lack-trade/

“It's all about what the market will bear,” Canucks president Trevor Linden said on the draft floor Saturday morning.

“Trust me, we've worked on this, (general manager Jim Benning has) been on the phone for the last three weeks gauging the landscape of the goaltending market, and it was hard to judge with Talbot being there and Lehner,” Linden continued.

“I think with one year until free agency, that plays a part in that. Talbot seemed like he was the guy that had the most interest from various teams. That's just the market.”

The claim that Lack went for roughly market value holds up under closer scrutiny. A handful of recent trades featuring roughly comparable goaltenders such as Jhonas Enroth, Ben Scrivens, Devan Dubnyk and Michal Neuvirth netted the trading teams a package based mostly around a third-round pick.

i would have thought that because the oilers were gonna pay..and pay they sorta did for talbot, that the canucks would have "settled" on the 2nd the oilers offered up for eddie

cuz u know..one way or another..the oilers were getting a goalie

Good for the Islanders to draft the BJ kid... heres hoping Zach Yuen's hockey career isn't done...

last I heard he was with the Marlies

He played 3 games for the Marlies (AHL contract) after spending the rest of the season in the ECHL 2 years ago.

He was released by the Marlies, attended the Hamilton Bulldogs' camp last year, and was signed to an ECHL contract by the Wheeling Nailers. He was traded mid-season.

He was on Gwinnett's Protected List (for ECHL expansion) a few weeks ago, so I'm guessing they plan to re-sign him.

We didn't do much worse on Lack.

Unfortunately we'll all just continue to see that lehner went for a first and lack for a seventh.

Goes to show how much value club controlled years has on a players worth these days with the salary cap in place. I think if lack or Talbot were even a year younger they cound have returned a 1st rounder also all other things equal.

Hondaracer 06-28-2015 09:21 AM

TL can downplay it all they want, they essentially got zero return for lack, pathetic

Honestly, how much better of a goalie is Corey Schneider than Lack? 15%? Get 8th overall for him and Lehner gets a first and we get a single digit chance of playing an NHL game? Fuck
