an extra 1-2 playoff games does NOT mean revenue....
if attendance is shit, it may not make a difference.

still have to pay all the arena staff, cost of utilities, etc..etc..etc..

It keeps the "believe in the team mentality." It'll help sell the story that next year they can go deeper because this year they had injuries, young prospects, etc. It's like a chick always saying just the tip and next time you can go all in, but you never get to.

Attendance will never be shit in a playoff game in Vancouver.

Playoffs will 100% = revenue.

punkwax 02-11-2016 07:04 PM

Impossible to have 1-2 playoff games boys.. :lol

You do know that for playoffs, the players aren't paid by Aqulini right? They're paid by the NHL and it's only $2500-$3000/game.

Let's just say average ticket prices are $100/ea x 18,000 tickets = $1.8M from gate receipts alone. Let's saying operating cost and profits from beer/food equal out, that's $3.6M for 2 games.

If given the proposition of that kind of money or tanking for a high draft pick, I'd bet on Aquilini taking the money. He's a money first guy and team winning secondary. If the USD/CAD stays the way it is, I can see the Canucks being the Oilers of the 90s and being at the salary floor every year and hoping for playoffs.

Hope Aqualini loses a lot of money the next few years so he can sell to a billionaire that is interested in winning first. Someone like a Paul Allen, one can only hope...

Lol no one is saying contender next year.

People are saying tank to get a legitimate franchise piece to build around. As nice as our prospects look, after the Sedins are gone, we've got no franchise players.

Well first 3 years of the sedins nobody put them into the franchise player category either. Hell even when MG took over he didn't think they were even first liners... There are no sure bets with drafting, usually.

McDavid with 2G 3A +3 game so far

My god that McDavid line is definitely benefiting having him back so badly

Eberle: 3G 1A +4
Pouliot: 0G 4A +4

PiuYi 02-11-2016 07:30 PM

I think we can all agree tanking doesn't guarantee future success, but if you asked me if I'd rather watch the team get swept in the first round or get a higher draft pick, I'd choose the pick

UFO 02-11-2016 07:39 PM

I guess for me it makes no difference whether we draft 5 or 10 say. If we do our version of tanking we'll draft around 5. If we go the way we are now maybe 10-14

Hell even looking at virtanens draft class, probably 5 other guys drafted below him that I think are equal or better than he is both currently and future outlook

I hear something yesterday on 1040 Bruce arthur was on there saying Stamkos would prefer to go to vancouver instead of toronto I mean take it for what its worth...

carisear 02-12-2016 08:49 AM

^^ Keeping with the theme of the last few posts, that's the equivalent of going to prison and getting asked if you want to get raped in the ass or mouth. neither are good choices.

Players aren't paid a salary during the playoffs. The PA will pay out performance bonuses.

#Canucks announce injury timelines for Edler (6 wks) and Sutter (6-8 wks following successful surgery to repair a jaw fracture).
Looks like it's going to be an interesting few weeks up to trade deadline. haha
