you're delusional if you think a 1 year contract Lack is worth more than Schneider for an 8th :lawl: Lehner may have gotten a better return because he has 2 years left and will be a RFA at 24 years old vs Talbot and Lack both 1 year left from UFA at 27/28 years old.. |
They have no leverage though. Even if he was to perform next year you're paying out based on potential either way. |
And I had read that the deal Carolina gave for Lack was the best one out there. EDM didn't wanna give any draft picks for Lack. So maybe it's just me but I believe we got the best we could... Not saying I like it and personally I woulda preferred Lack over Markstrom, but if they had to trade one or the other I understand why they trade the one that gets you the most |
Hey guys I heard that the Lack trade was not a popular one but it was the best one that was offered, that's why they accepted it. The other teams did not want to give up as much because they would be giving up too much for a goalie that is not worth as much. I prefer Lack over Markstrom because Lack did better than Markstrom. HOCKEY LOL HOCKEY |
Schneider went for 9th overall. He also had 2 years remaining and had substantially better stats, pedigree, etc. than Lack did. Schneider was a bonafide top 15 goaltender in the league at the time he was dealt, is now a bonafide top 10. Brodeur kept the starter's job, not because of merit, but because of history. They basically had to toss his ass out because he wouldn't retire when he should have. Lack is ... maybe top 25? What's his potential realistically? Will he ever be a top 15 goaltender in the league? Pending UFA doesn't help his trade value, either. We all know Benning should've traded Miller, went with a Lack/Markstrom combo, and signed Lack to a 2- or 3-year extension, but the only place we could send Miller, realistically, was San Jose and they didn't want him (plus, as we found out with Bieksa, Doug Wilson can be an asshole to deal with). |
Top 15 goaltender in the league at the time of never being a full time starter.. Lulz, didn't read? |
Gillis first fuck up, was signing miller? |

Benning* typo nigga |
We have a goalie pipeline that became overcrowded. Lack is the only one that could get return (who the fuck will pay for markstrom and Miller has his 6m cap hit) Miller has a fat contract. Sure he is a starter but too expensive for most teams. We couldve dealt him, but probably at the cost of retaining salary and another roster player. |
inb4 Miller and Markstrom goalie controversy :fuckthatshit: |

We already been through this, Schneider played behind a President's Trophy Canucks team. Lack played for Tortorella and Desjardins. |
Can anyone compile a list of Benning's transactions so far? I remember when he got hired, everyone was excited and he was supposed to be our savior. But now all I can remember is bad trades and bad signings... |
Well............ in his defence, he is supposed to be a scouting and drafting savant. I don't think anyone said much about his trading/signing abilities. |

Tortorella's team couldn't score because Torts destroyed everyone's creativity, confidence, soul. We scored 5 fewer goals under Willie than we did in the '11-'12 season and allowed fewer shots than any of AV's seasons ('10-'11 to '12-'13). In fact, Schneider faced 1.6 shots/game more than Lack did. The year that Lu and Schneider won the Jennings, we faced 30.1 shots/game (2468) and they allowed 2.20 goals/game (180) for a combined save % of 92.7%. Over 3 years ('10-'11 to '12-'13), we faced an average of 30.1 shots/game (6381) and allowed 2.30 goals/game (486) for a combined save % of 92.4%. Under Tortorella, we allowed 28.4 shots/game (2329) and allowed 2.63 goals/game (216) for a combined save % of 90.7%. Under Desjardins, we allowed 29.8 shots/game (2444) and allowed 2.68 goals/game (220) for a combined save % of 91.0%. Now, here's the real kicker: when you compare Lack and Schneider when they face 35+ shots in a game. Lack faced 35+ shots in 16/86 of his games (18.6%) and had a 91.0 Sv% in those games. Lack went 7-4-5 and allowed 4+ goals in 10 games (62.5%). 4-or-more goal games: 4-2-4 (60%) 3 goal games: 0-2-0 (0%) 2-or-fewer goal games: 3-0-1 (87.5%) Schneider faced 35+ shots in 25/98 of his games (25.5%) and had a 94.3 Sv% in those games. Schneider went 14-7-4 and allowed 4+ goals in 5 games (20%). 4-or-more goal games: 1-3-1 (30%) 3 goal games: 3-1-1 (70%) 2-or-fewer goal games: 10-3-2 (73.3%) Schneider stepped up when the opposition outplayed us; Lack fell apart. |
