Vey has 5 even-strength points in 28 games, Etem has 5 even-strength points in 21 games. Somehow "earned" their way onto the top line. #WDlogic #Goodforthetank
Henrik traveling back to Vancouver to be evaluated. Tanev to stay with team, but unlikely to play vs. LA.

Let's contrast last year to this year.
Last year:
101 points, 8th in the league
This is despite a 2nd unit PP that WD kept together all season and into the playoffs ... that scored 3 (THREE) goals all season. Despite Sbisa being absolutely terrible (thankfully not so much this year) but continuing to get 2nd pairing minutes. Despite constant line change bungles resulting in penalties and odd-man rushes against (that continues this season). All obvious knocks on coaching.
The result:
Eric Crawford (director of player personnel, 17 years with the Canucks) - fired
Lawrence Gilman (assistant general manager, 8 years with the Canucks) - fired
Lorne Henning (vice president of player personnel and assistant general manager, 9 years with the Canucks) - fired
Mike Burnstein (head athletic trainer, 20 years with the Canucks) - fired
This year:
On pace for 79 points, 23rd overall
The result:
Everyone is assured job security with 1/4 of the disaster of a season left! Hurrah! Quote:
Gilman was Gillis’ first hire in 2008 and quickly became regarded as one of the league’s sharpest capologists — a job description he never liked and one that failed to fully reflect his impact on hockey operations. Gilman once said part of his job was to tell Gillis no when the GM had a bad idea.
It was more difficult to do the same under Benning, who hadn’t hired Gilman or most of the others in hockey ops. Both Benning and Linden made it clear Thursday they need more alignment on hockey decisions — that probably means less debate or dissenting opinions.

these guys are playing with their careers on the line, might as well sit back and see if they can do something with all the minutes they receive

I'm not sure what the AHL out clause is, but I'd guess it means he can go back to the KHL if he gets sent to the AHL.

ahl clause will cover two things. if he doesn't make the team next year, is pissed and wants to go to khl instead of ahl. or if hes not having a good time while in the ahl , he can go back. canucks retain his rights though

He's marginally outperformed Miller so far this year, has 1/4 the cap hit, and is a decade younger.
Miller: 14-19-8, 2.63 GAA, 91.6 Sv%, 1 SO
Markstrom: 10-8-4, 2.57 GAA, 91.7 Sv%, 0 SO
Markstrom better record, similar overall stats.
Miller: 92.5 ES Sv%, 86.2 PK Sv%
Markstrom: 92.1 ES Sv%, 91.3 PK Sv%
Markstrom substantially better when we're penalty killing, Miller slightly better at even-strength.
Miller
<25 shots/60: 1-1-1, 1.31 GAA, 93.2 Sv%, 1 SO
25-35 shots/60: 10-8-5, 2.37 GAA, 91.5 Sv%, 0 SO
>35 shots/60: 3-10-2, 3.28 GAA, 91.4 Sv%, 0 SO
Markstrom
<25 shots/60: 0-0-0, 0.00 GAA, 100.0 Sv%, 0 SO
25-35 shots/60: 7-5-0, 2.08 GAA, 92.5 Sv%, 0 SO
>35 shots/60: 3-3-3, 3.37 GAA, 90.7 Sv%, 0 SO
Markstrom substantially better with typical loads. Miller better Sv% under heavy loads, but substantially worse record.
Miller: Pulled 2 times
Markstrom: Pulled 0 times
