It should be quite the battle though, Pedan/Biega/Sbisa/Tryamkin/.... Even though its for a bottom 6 roll :lawl:

yeah sbisa has def improved imo, if he doesnt pull fancy moves and plays a physical and simple game he deserves to stick around
and if he does more of these rushes once in a while too.. :drunk:

Why cant we tank? it will bring a decade of success for 1 year of failure in this years draft

UFO 03-09-2016 02:42 PM

I'd absolve Hutton. He took the pass away the whole time, Miller could/should have challenged more aggresively esp on the shortside; but really that was a pretty sick shot and Carter did a good job with his shooting angle to freeze Miller

Hutton is the best thing to happen to the Canucks D-corp since Tanev
if he can put up points i can easily forgive whatever d blunder he makes

the provies archive has some pretty good spizza gifs lol

Lol, had to google absolve... but i disagree. In that gif you can see once the puck crosses the Canucks blue line Hutton abandons the middle between Carter and Lucic and just checks Lucic. Which is great for taking away the pass but it gives Carter a ton of room to cut to the middle.

Not saying it is all Huttons' fault, he has overall over exceeded everyone's expectations this year.

^This

It's a 2-on-2 board battle between Sbisa, Vey, and a pair of Kings. The centre should've recognized that and starting skating back in case the Kings won the battle.

and then at the last THM, Linden basically said Canucks were in over their heads and making the playoffs was too much of an expectation

putting together a competitive team is too hard for JB so it looks like they'll be sticking to these THM's for now

JB was saying they were a playoff team up to mid-February. And, even then, he was making excuses like losing Sutter, Hamhuis, etc. long-term as reasons why they were on the bubble.

What do you think Hutton could of done different? Do you think he over committed on Lucic? The more he stays in-between them the better chance Lucic has of a tap in goal.

In my eye's Hutton played that pretty well. It's always a gamble on 2 on 1 but he completely took Lucic out of the picture, which should allow the goaltender to focus 100% on the shot. He also probably noticed Sbisa coming hard on the backcheck. I think Miller was just out of position on the play to let a right handed shot score short side there. It's not like Carter just walked directly in the middle of slot and scored, there was pressure on him and was definitely at an off angle.

He did over commit to Lucic and looks like he probably thought Sbisa would make it back for the back check. I have never seen a 2 on 1 played where the defense man in the middle leaves the middle and takes the man without the puck. Like you said its a gamble but why would you leave the middle, where he is supposed to be blocking any potential pass? You can see in the GIF all the extra room Carter has once Hutton moves to go man on man with Lucic. Sbisa was close, maybe a stride or two off Carter, but it was enough for Carter to take a stride to the middle and beat Miller.

If Hutton stayed in the middle it would have kept Carter further to the outside, decreasing his shot angle. The defense mans job is to take the pass on a 2 on 1, not take the man without the puck.

Regulation loss drops us to 25th (6th overall) with a 47.0 P%.

If we win, we improve to 23rd (8th overall).
