Fortunately, CBJ won, so we've locked in 28th place regardless of the result of our game.

VAN was behind by 2 ROWs prior to today's game no?
with the win tonight VAN are at 26 ROW and even if CBJ loss in OT tonight they would still be at 27 ROW, but they won so they're now at 28 ROW

Brock Boeser's ready, sign the guy now!!

Mike Oxbig 04-09-2016 10:41 PM

how stack will utica be if Boeser, Demko, Virtanen, McCann, gaunce, are in utica next season? Give us another season to tank :D

Is Pulujarvi allow to play in AHL? seems like most euros take the ahl route before playing in the nhl learning to play in smaller rinks

The worst we can pick is 6th, but we have an 11.5% chance of 1st overall.

2016 NHL Draft Lottery rules and complete odds table - Pension Plan Puppets

Quote:

For the first time, the NHL will run its draft lottery for the top three picks. But that's not the only thing you need to know for the 2016 NHL Draft lottery.

As a result of the new format, the team who finished 30th in the regular season can now drop to fourth overall, and will not be guaranteed a top-two pick. After the three lotteries are run, the 11 remaining teams will slot into pick 4-14 based on where they finished in the standings (least points picking 4th, with regulation and overtime wins for all tiebreakers).

Last season, the NHL Draft gave all 14 non-playoff teams a chance to pick first overall -- where only the worst five teams had previously been able to move up to the top selection -- for the first time.

In order to in theory prevent tanking for the first overall pick in two draft classes where Connor McDavid and Auston Matthews were available, the NHL has also reduced the odds of the 30th overall team winning the lottery from one-in-four in 2014 to one-in-five in 2015 and 2016. In 2015, the Edmonton Oilers had an 11.5 per cent chance of winning the lottery when they moved up to select McDavid.

Because the lottery is now being held for three different selections, each non-playoff team can pick anywhere from four to seven different spots, dependent on which teams ahead or behind them in the standings win each of the top three picks.

Under the new system, the seven lowest finishing teams actually have higher odds of moving back one spot in the draft than any of their chances of moving up or staying put.

The 2016 NHL Draft lottery will be held on April 30, 2016, in Toronto ahead of the first round of this year's draft on June 24 in Buffalo. After each draw, the remaining teams will readjust proportionally.

In order for a prospect to be eligible for the 2016 NHL Draft, he must be 18 years old on or before Sept. 15, 2016.

For the Toronto Maple Leafs, the 30th-place finish still means there's a nearly 50/50 chance they don't draft in the top three. In a class where a clear-cut top three has developed, and the players ranked from 4-8 can all be reasonably argued as the fourth best prospect in the class, those odds aren't nothing.

If all three of the lotteries are won by teams who finished 27th or higher then the Leafs in all likelihood won't have a chance at selecting any of Auston Matthews, Patrik Laine, and Jesse Puljujarvi.

Still, for the second straight season, the Leafs will have a top-four pick.

Datsyuk confirms that he's returning to Russia after the playoffs.

-gonna miss seeing Magic Man's world class puck handling skills. :tears:

Datsyuk confirms he's returning to Russia next season - Sportsnet.ca
Get a good look at Pavel Datsyuk during the upcoming Stanley Cup Playoffs, hockey fans. It’ll be the last chance you get to watch the “Magic Man” suit up in the NHL.

On Sunday, the Detroit Free Press confirmed what our own Elliotte Friedman reported on April 2: that the 2015-16 season would be Datsyuk’s final one in the NHL as he plans to return to Russia next season.

The 37-year-old Datsyuk had 16 goals and 33 assists in 66 games this season.

“I’m thinking I go home after this season,” Datsyuk told the Free Press. “I may not be done with hockey, but — it is hard to say — I think I am done playing in the NHL.”

He has one year remaining on his deal with a cap hit of $7.5 million. Because the deal was signed after he turned 35, the Red Wings will be stuck with the cap hit regardless of whether Datsyuk retires, or where he plays.

"I feel very bad about it," Datsyuk told the Free Press.

Drafted 171st overall by Detroit 1998, Datsyuk is one of the truly great players of his generation. In 949 career regular season NHL games (all spent with the Detroit Red Wings) the three-time Selke and four-time Lady Byng Trophy winner has 314 goals, 602 assists for 916 points. He won Stanley Cups with Detroit in 2002 and 2008.

My prediction is that the Leafs will land Stamkos and then, with the league's help, get Matthews with the 1st overall pick.

Cuz this is how you rebuild :)

TjAlmeida 04-10-2016 05:31 PM

Hopefully we get into the top three. Selection is a lot easier in the top three then it is 4-6.

Gh0stRider 04-10-2016 06:17 PM

Dammit Datsyuk!

I think any team picking top 9-10 will be golden

Matthews
Laine
Poolparty
Dubois
Tkachuck
Juolevi
Nylander
Sergachev
Chychrun

Big question marks are Tkachuck because a lot of his points are secondary assists and Chychrun has taken a step back in his game this season (which is usually a bad sign for draft year players)

slicrick 04-10-2016 07:11 PM

Playoff seeding is confirmed. Going to be watching SJS vs LA, STL vs CHI and NYR vs PIT for sure.

I think Detroit might have a decent chance to knock off TBL, TBL is missing Stamkos, Stralman and if I remember correctly Tyler Johnson and Kucherov were both recently injured as well. Resting them maybe? If Tampa doesn't have those guys on top of Stamkos and Stralman missing I think they will have a tough time.

I hate saying it as an NYR fan but NYR will have a hard time in this years playoffs as well. Their defenseman have slowed down significantly (Boyle, Girardi and Staal) along with McDonagh being injued and having an injury ridden season. Lundqvist hasn't looked outstanding towards the end of the season either but I think he will be ready come playoffs. That team has lived off their dmen and goaltending and now that they've slowed down a bit NYR could get exposed quite easily.

I agree with the quality of players within the canucks drafting area, but the choice is a lot more black and white 1-3. After that it opens up, Juolevi, Chychrun, Tkachuk, dubois, Nylander, Sergachev, maybe brown..

I think we don't need to worry about that too much. As much shit as we give GMJB for the trades and contracts given out, he has been doing a great job at the draft. Brock Boeser in particular has been playing like an elite level player in the NCAA this season.
