Signed first contract at age 20 (April 19, 2013), making him exempt for 3 years (13/14-15/16) or 160 NHL games.

just gotta make sure this thread doesn't become fight club for 3 days and we'll be good again
i'm anxious to get the lottery over and done with
as much as i'd hate it, i wonder what kinda backlash and rule changes would happen if the coilers win 1st overall again

Coilers basically killed the marketing careers of so many first/ top 5 picks.
If I were the NHL I wouldn't want to keep giving them the next generation player and let them rot in Edmonton.

They should change the rule regardless of the Coilers winning or not.

When they do the actual draft why does it take place behind closed doors? (Or am I wrong about that) Things like that always lead me to believe that the "fix" is in.

It takes place behind closed doors but many representatives from the league and teams will attend. Teams are assigned a series of number combinations based on their % of winning the first overall pick. 1001 combinations are possible with 1 causing a re-draw.
This video shows the process during last year's lottery: http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/console?id=810726 |

Based on the games listed in 1983, sounds like the previous round game was in the East and started first, and the next round game was in the West and started second.
Today, the second round game has started already, but the first round game doesn't start until 7pm.
