June 30, 2015: Kevin Bieksa for 2nd round pick in 2016 draft
June 27, 2015: Eddie Lack for Guillaume Brisebois (66th pick, 2015 draft) + 7th rounder in 2016
Mar 2, 2015: Rasmus Andersson (53rd pick, 2015 draft) for Sven Baertschi

Spoiler!

Canucks didn't miss out on Bieksa, it's just that the Sharks pulled the plug last minute. Canucks got a decent return anyways. The GM there also has past history with Bieksa as I believe Tim Murray once worked for the organization.

Kassian had it coming... return was shit... but we got SOMETHING.... 1st round draft picks are just a status... its a crap shoot.

I hated the return for Lack, but he's gonna be UFA and not much value as he isn't a bonafide no1. He's ready...but he hasn't walked the walk. Same with Talbot, xept people probably give a shit about NYR than Vancouver...

Hondaracer 07-02-2015 08:15 AM

Thing with lack is, as he is unproven the Canucks probably could have just held on to him, signed him to a value extension, then trade him at the deadline etc.

Not like markstrom had any pull in the situation, what's the difference between losing a disgruntled markstrom for a 4th or 5th rounder than what we got for lack?

punkwax 07-02-2015 08:18 AM

Markstrom's ceiling his higher than Lack's. Canucks clearly want to explore that to see if he pans out.

6o4__boi 07-02-2015 08:23 AM

I hate the Lack trade, I still kinda do but it is what it is.
If Markstrom can translate his AHL numbers into the 20-30+ games he'll get in the upcoming season that'll ease the pain somewhat

as if i don't hate the leafs enough already. The whole fucking day yesterday they kept coming back to the Kessel trade, and so far today, my feed has been let's look back at the trade.

nobody gives a fuck. Kessel's an overpaid cry baby. Why do you need so many fucking angles on a trade.
lol at the Pens approaching a scorched earth policy for their future.

I don't believe in Markstrom, I don't get why some guys in the league it's like they're made of freaking Teflon or something, chance after chance after chance and all the poor play never sticks to them... How many seasons have different organizations been waiting for his "AHL numbers to transfer to the NHL" I'm out of patience with that shit... I guess management isn't though!

dbaz 07-02-2015 09:22 AM

rumors are lack wanted 3,5-4mil. thats not really a value extension if hes still behind miller

6o4__boi 07-02-2015 09:30 AM

Canucks fire Laurence Gilman, Lorne Henning and Eric Crawford.

the clean up is ongoing.

XplicitLuder 07-02-2015 09:31 AM

Laurence Gilman, Eric Crawford and lorne henning all let go

EmperorIS 07-02-2015 09:32 AM

LOL SHIT TEAM.

Liquid_o2 07-02-2015 09:33 AM

Why are they doing this after draft and free agency? :rukidding:

Should have done it right after the season finished.

when has this current regime ever made a logical decision this season?
lol, think of something that makes perfect sense, now think of the opposite of that. That seems to be the logic function for the foreseeable future.

highfive 07-02-2015 09:43 AM

I think they worried Markstrom becomes another Bishop. He's still young (25?) and he might be able to break out over the next 2-3 years.

I think most of us are pissed about this is because we didn't get enough for Lack.

Vancouver, BC – Vancouver Canucks President of Hockey Operations, Trevor Linden announced today that the club has relieved Vice President, Hockey Operations and Assistant General Manager, Laurence Gilman, Assistant General Manager, Lorne Henning and Director, Player Personnel, Eric Crawford of their duties.

“On behalf of our entire organization I would like to sincerely thank Laurence, Lorne and Eric for their commitment and dedication to the Vancouver Canucks,” said Trevor Linden. “They have been important members of our staff for a long time and made significant contributions to the success of this team. Further still, they are great people and respected members of the hockey community.”

“We have made some difficult decisions to our roster and staff recently after a thorough review of the team,” continued Linden. “These are not easy decisions, nor were they taken lightly. But they’re important as we transition this team and build for the future.”

:lol

I was just thinking the same thing.

fsy82 07-02-2015 09:53 AM

I'm loving whats happening right now. We've been spoiled by having great teams for a decade now. But the core is stale, management needs a refresh and we need to get draft picks and develop our youth. Hopefully our organization becomes close to what Detroit is right now. Having the youth come in and develop into good and great NHL players.

6o4__boi 07-02-2015 10:01 AM

Detroit is just magic.
Change is great and long overdue...i just hope they have a positive effect or else this will be the late 90's early 2000's all over again.

Ch28 07-02-2015 10:02 AM

I'm thinking the Gilman & Henning firing was more to do with a clash of ideas. I can't see a moneyball guy like Gilman approving the Sbisa signing as that type of term and money for him was the complete opposite of what Gilman is typically signing players to.

hypediss 07-02-2015 10:09 AM

yet to fire any of the scouts wtf.

Benning calls the shots and with his player knowledge he doesn't need to fire those guys yet.

6o4__boi 07-02-2015 11:47 AM

there's just something unsettlingly hilarious about this

Ch28 07-02-2015 12:02 PM

@DavidEbner:
Sounds like Canucks Jonathan Wall, director hockey ops & analytics, gets a big promotion, to fill in the work of Laurence Gilman.

Quote:

"As the Director of Hockey Operations & Analytics, Jonathan Wall works with Assistant General Managers, Player Development and Amateur and Professional Scouts on a variety of hockey operations tasks including salary cap analysis and planning, contract analysis, immigration, entry draft, free agency, college scouting, training and development camps as well as any special projects as directed by the General Manager.

Wall began his tenure with Canucks Sports & Entertainment in 1998 as the Scouting Information Coordinator. Previously in 1996, Wall worked as the Equipment Manager for the Vancouver Voodoo roller hockey team. Prior to that, Wall worked with the UBC Varsity Hockey Team as the Team Manager while he completed his degree in Sports Management at the University of British Columbia."

68style 07-02-2015 12:12 PM

Wow that's a great story that needs to be told... going from washing jocks for a short-lived rollerhockey team to basically running everything behind the scenes of an NHL franchise!

Jmac 07-02-2015 12:28 PM

Rookie President, Rookie GM, Rookie Coach, now throw in a Rookie Assistant GM.

Youth movement in the front office :troll:
