patrick sharp to Dallas

Jmac 07-10-2015 05:18 PM

For Trevor Daley.

Dallas' main problem last year was keeping the puck out of their net so, naturally, they trade their best defenseman :seriously:

68style 07-10-2015 05:51 PM

Lehtonen is going to have a bounce back year :derp:

If he's feeding Benning his intel on things...

well its all in line with his past

It's super obvious CFL is basically the AHL of the NFL. I have zero interest in the Lions, rather watch the Comets.
Wasn't it a way back that QB Casey Printers won like league MVP, the next season he went to some NFL team and got cut in training camp.

Jmac 07-10-2015 08:07 PM

Well, to be fair, Chad Johnson didn't exactly light up the CFL along with many others. Also, Warren Moon, Doug Flutie, Dave Dickinson, etc. went on to have pretty good NFL careers.

It's a different game with a larger field (wider and longer), fewer downs, more players on the field, field goal posts within the playing area, different play clock rules, etc. I'd say it's more akin to the SHL/NLA than the AHL. The AHL basically has all the same rules and regulations as the NHL except they usually have an experimental rule or two each season that the NHL wants to test out before implementing it in the bigs (i.e. face shields for everyone, hybrid icing, etc.)

Obsideon 07-10-2015 08:44 PM

I'm not too knowledgeable in that aspect, but it seems like the CFL guys are way smaller.

Wouldn't a team like the Seahawks just ragdoll the Lions? It will be like Canucks vs Kings/Ducks this year!

Didn't Chicago HAVE to dump Sharp because they will be over the cap?
How do they manage to get a solid top-4 blueliner back?

Why can't we ever get good returns like this?!
I swear if we had Sharp we would have got nothing more than a 2017 - 3rd & 7th for him ...

AzNightmare 07-10-2015 09:11 PM

I'm just going to sit back and see how this pans out. In a sense, this is what we wanted.
We cannot inject youth if we have no spots because washed up veterans are taking up the spots.

They weren't over the cap. However, they want to re-sign Kruger, which this allows them to do. It's also possible Oduya may be coming back as well.

Sharp is pretty equivalent to Kesler, so we got a 1st, Bonino, and Sbisa. Benning thinks Sbisa is a solid top-4 blueliner :troll:

I doubt they can re-sign Kruger AND Oduya with only ~1M in cap space...unless they dump Bickell? :lol

Chicago Blackhawks | General Fanager

Pretty sure the Daley acquisition allows them to let go of Oduya as he's an obvious upgrade.

Hondaracer 07-10-2015 09:42 PM

Stars came out ahead IMO

The Kings are going to be worse than us this year.

They lost:
- Justin Williams
- Andrej Sekera
- Slava Voynov (likely heading to the KHL after serving his sentence)
- Mike Richards
- Jarret Stoll
- Robin Regehr

In:
- Milan Lucic
- Jordan Weal

Sure, Richards wasn't worth anywhere close to $5.75M anymore, but he's still a decent bottom 6 centre. Stoll was their 3rd line C, he's gone. Williams was a key part of their top 6, gone. Sekera, one of their top 4 dmen, gone. Voynov, their 2nd best dman behind Doughty, gone. Regehr retired. Brown's been complete garbage for 2 seasons (with a $5.875M boat anchor contract). There's a huge rift between the players and Darryl Sutter.

So you have:

Lucic - Kopitar - Gaborik
Pearson - Carter - Toffoli
King - Weal - Brown
Clifford - Lewis - Nolan

Muzzin - Doughty
Martinez - Greene
McNabb - McBain

Quick
Enroth

Their forward group isn't horrible, but is it any better than last year's group? Their defense is inarguably worse without Sekera and Voynov. Goaltending pretty much the same.

GF has two players (Teravainen and Dano) who aren't waiver-eligible on that roster who can be sent down for accounting purposes (plus there's no spot for either of them with Anisimov and Kruger occupying the #2 and #3 slots). Replace them with two $550k players and that saves $720k there. Now you're at $1.7M.

I'd be shocked if Bickell isn't gone by training camp.

I think they have a little over a 1m in cap space, believe stars retained some salary in the trade.

I'll give you 2:1 odds the Nucks finish behind the Kings, $100

multicartual 07-11-2015 12:01 AM

Call me crazy, but I wish the Canucks would just draft or sign a bunch of bruisers and have a team stacked with dudes all like 6'4+

If we're not going to win cups, at least make it so that we crush people and make the game entertaining

I went to one game last year and I can't even remember who we played, it was just SO damn boring. Think I'd rather fall asleep at a Whitecaps match.

Bouncing Bettys 07-11-2015 12:46 AM

Fans of other teams start licking their chops at the idea of getting assets from the Hawks after a cup win and forcing their hand because of the cap. Yet time and time again (they win a lot :okay:) they give away only the most expendable while getting huge returns which set them up for another cup win. They never panick.

CFL is made of most the guys not good enough or don't have the size to play in the NFL, it's still enjoyable to watch for me.

There was another guy named Cameron Wake that played for the Lions who went to the Dolphins and cracked the top 40 this year (voted by the NFL players) of best players in the league, he's one of the better Defensive Ends in the league now 6 years removed from the CFL.

except letting go of Saad I didnt see that coming...they should have just waited to shed some cap ie sharp, bickell, oduya and then resign saad...
