Growing up watching hockey in the 90's. That's a hefty price tag for a player who likely won't see another season more than 55 points.

I think we all better get used to these deals in a post 10+ year cap circumventing world. When top players like Kane and Toews are $10 mil cap hits, its perfectly fair that 2nd tier top 6 players are going to be getting $7 mil ish cap hits, like Kesler and O'Reilly. My only issue with Kesler's deal is the term, too long, he'll be 38 by the end of the deal.

$6.9M x 6 for a guy who will be 32 when the contract starts and that hasn't scored more than 49 points in the past 4 seasons.

I don't hate Kesler, but it's a reach to say he's worth $7M now, let alone 7 years from now.

He hasn't been anywhere near as effective as he was before all his major surgeries following our cup run.

They are paying for playoff potential really, the guy steps up in the playoffs. A problem they have with Perry and Getzlaf is they are becoming increasingly inneffective in deciding playoff games, I'm sure they are banking on Kes being the player to push them over within their window here
