only the Leafs would think spending a draft pick to sign a 72yr old GM is a good idea...
not to mention with the amount of success shanahan babcock and GMLou had individually, ego's are bound to collide when its decision making time Quote:

I wish the canucks would just fucking suck for a few season so we can have decent hockey to watch next decade
since we're no where even close to these teams:

so with matthias gone, kassian, richardson, and whoever else if I'm missing any...where does management think the goal scoring is going to come from. I know its not like these guys scored a ton but they did put up some decent numbers for goals...

Let's not forget though, if we kept Matthias and Richardson, we'd basically be the same team as last year and there'd be no room for any of the young guys to fit in.
We still have Jensen who is 22 and itching for a chance to be on the big club.
This may be his last shot and if it doesn't work, he may go back to Europe.
As much as some of JB's deals don't make sense, JB is making room. Higgins will be gone when his contract is done. Most likely, Vrbata will be gone too.

Horvat, Baertschi, Vey, Virtanen (maybe)
lol that's pretty much it.
tbh, i have really low expectations for next season. I could give two shits where we end up in the standings as long as some prospects make show up and take a right step in their development.

Jensen is probably done as a Canuck...Management isn't too keen on him
For a player his size he's pretty soft and pretty weak on the boards.

alot to ask for those 3 guys to put up numbers...Sven could replace matthias's goal production thats if he gets a fair shake on the top 6 and pp, Virtanen tuff to ask a rookie to put up numbers but if he gets 10goals that replaces richardson production, as for vey i hate the guy and dont think he will put up numbers unless WD keeps putting him on the pp. This to me doesnt make sense because how you put a 4th line centre on your first pp unit?

If Baertschi and Virtanen show Horvat type numbers from last year, then that is the cherry on top for me. Quote:

yeah as for jensen he has all the talent to be a top 6 but he plays way too soft...better euro league player, unless he comes to camp and lights it up and i mean lights it up he plays so well theres noway they could send him down. But I dont see that happening unless he skates circles around everyone and snipes..

If Kenins can somehow become a younger, slightly better Hansen then he's basically exceeded all expectation for his career.

Holtby signs a 5 year $30.5M extension with the Caps.
Bye bye Ryan Stanton. Signs with the Caps as well.

Have you seen what aquaman is building and wants to build around gm place? He's making mad money win or lose. He was wise to invest in food and beverage last season to plan for the future, distract from the product on the ice

Aquaman is going to have 1100 rental units around Rogers Arena. No way he's going to let it go including the team.

The team did finish with 101 points. That's only one point behind the eventual Stanley Cup winners. They finished 8th overall in the NHL when nobody expected them to finish as high as they did.

The Chiasson signing with the Sens should help the Canucks in terms of offering Baertschi less money for a multi year deal.
Baertschi hasn't proven yet that he can perform over an entire season compared to Chiasson.
Carol Schram
Vancouver Canucks Blogger
With the Vancouver Canucks roster pretty much set to start the 2015-16 season, the only real uncertainty that remains is the value of the contract that restricted free agent Sven Baertschi will receive as he gets ready to step into what's most likely a top-six position in the fall.
Here's another comparable that probably works in the Canucks' favor in the Baertschi case.
The Ottawa Senators' Alex Chiasson was just awarded a one-year contract worth $1.2 million in his Thursday arbitration hearing, according to NHL.com.
Chiasson is two years older than Baertschi, but Baertschi actually got to the NHL first, with those five games for Calgary back in 2011-12. Chiasson didn't make his NHL debut until the following season, when he played seven games in Dallas while spending most of his year with the AHL Texas Stars.
In 2013-14, however, Chiasson established himself as a full-time NHLer and posted 35 points, while Baertschi played just 26 NHL games. Same thing last year, after Chiasson moved to Ottawa: he had 26 points in 76 games while Baertschi had six points in 18 games with the Flames and Canucks.
Because he's older, Chiasson had arbitration rights where Baertschi does not, which should theoretically improve his bargaining position. But Chiasson asked for $2.475 million while the Senators offered $1 million. He'll have to settle for less than half of what he was shooting for with his $1.2 million arbitration award for next season.
Since there's every indication that the Canucks are game to give Baertschi the multi-year deal he's looking for, I can't see any way that his contract value should exceed Chiasson's when he has not yet even proven himself as a full-time NHLer.

FYI: Burrows is at Smashfest. When I first heard the name of that event, I thought that there would plenty of NHLers and Ho's there.
Alex Burrows at Smashfest
Luke Fox of Sportsnet has a good piece here on Thursday night's Smashfest event in Toronto.
Vancouver's Alex Burrows was the runner-up in the ping-pong tournament in 2014. This season, he reached the semi-final before falling to Patrick Eaves of the Dallas Stars—a first-time player who ended up taking this year's title.
Fox has lots of gossipy tidbits from the event, which included appearances by everyone from Eric Lindros to Toronto mayor John Tory to Canadian tennis ace Milos Raonic.
Here's what he got from Burrows, about what he expects to see from Jacob Markstrom:
Vancouver's Alex Burrows, 2014's Smashfest runner-up, believes teammate and Canucks backup Jacob Markstrom can be a No. 1 goaltender in the NHL.
"Why not? He's got the size. Goalies are just getting bigger and bigger and bigger these days. It's the new trend," Burrows told me. "He's one of those guys who's 6'6". He's working with Rollie Melanson, one of the best goalie coaches. There's no reason why he can't be a No. 1 going forward."
