Rangers resign Stepan, 6 years for $6.5mil cap hit, new going rate for 2nd tier top 6 players seems to be $6 to 8mil, so in that sense, its a fair deal.

Rangers sign Stepan ? six years, $39 million | ProHockeyTalk

68style 07-27-2015 09:36 PM

I wonder why Wilson signed so cheap comparatively... He was only 10pts off of Stepan's pace.

Yes, last year was better than most had expected. By virtue of losing Torts and actually running team practices, I figured the team would have gotten at least an extra 10-15 pts -- so they exceeded my expectations by 3 pts and made the playoffs 'comfortably' this past season. Aquaman made a couple extra million to help pay off all those km's of new beer lines with the Flames routing us easily, and we have to put up with Tegra trolling us for the whole next season and possibly even longer.

But I think they know full well the next several years while we are transitioning away from the Sedin stale core era to whatever lies next, has the potential for great pain especially with seemingly every other team in the West becoming stronger or starting to peak. All of our prospects right now are still in the "we hope they will be amazing, but in all likelihood they will be good" stage, with no bonafide 1st line replacements.

I joked last year that we started the season with a 1st line and 3 3rd-4th lines, but the future reality may very well be that we'll have a 2nd line and 3 3rd-4th lines.

Tennessee doesn't have income tax.

Boostslut 07-28-2015 07:35 AM

Bye bye Bonino..

winson604 07-28-2015 07:35 AM

Canucks have acquired Brandon Sutter and a 3rd round pick from Pittsburgh in exchange for Nick Bonino, Adam Clendening and a 2nd round pick in 2016

Tim Budong 07-28-2015 07:36 AM

lpolol

More room for a youngster to come in I guess!

We sure have lost an awful lot of goal production from last year though :heckno:

Tank for Matthews!

I don't know what to say right now....

jeedee 07-28-2015 07:45 AM

Interesting...

I don't really mind Sutter but trading a 27 Bonino who has 2 years left @1.9M cap for Sutter 26 y/o at 1 year left @ 3.3M, give up a 2nd for a 3rd and Clendening as well....

If Sutter walks as a UFA after this season... :smug:

68style 07-28-2015 07:48 AM

I guess we didn't actually lose any goals, Sutter had an unusually productive year last year goal-wise... 21 goals compared to Bonino's 15......... but I would think Bonino's ceiling is higher.

Also not sure who Sutter was playing with last year, don't follow the Penguins much. If it was anywhere even near Crosby or Malkin then that's like a free 10+ goals right there lol... whereas we stuck Bonino with Higgins most of the year.

Tim Budong 07-28-2015 07:50 AM

Sutter is UFA...
Bonino is.... UFA...

Sutter is more $$..Sven is not signed...

wtffffffff

Well he's a centre and Crosby and Malkin are also both centres... So assuming that the Pens didn't play 2Cs on one line, he's been playing on the third line.

jeedee 07-28-2015 07:50 AM

Correct me if I'm wrong but he was playing 3C as a shutdown behind Sid and Geno?

He'll probably be utilized as a 3C in Vancouver as well behind Henrik and Bo (or Bo as 3c shutdown and Sutter as 2C)

XplicitLuder 07-28-2015 07:52 AM

Wasn't clendening our QB to be for the PP ?

7seven 07-28-2015 07:52 AM

Some are saying its a 2017 3rd too from Pitts, don't like this trade for the Canucks, Sutter to me is just a 3rd line center, not much different than Bonino, and the Canucks have to throw in a 2nd rd pick and Clendening for a 2017 3rd round pick?

I would have said this was a rebuilding trade but that doesn't make sense if you're giving up a 2nd round 2016 pick for a 3rd round 2017 pick. What is Benning doing?

This trade makes zero sense in my books, Clendening was looking good and he's young so why give him up like that out of the blue? there has to be more we don't know about.

Ch28 07-28-2015 07:59 AM

Sutter is UFA after next season too

In theory yes. He shoots right but right now I don't see where they would fit him in in the top 6 for D.

Maybe they saw something in him that they didn't like when he was in Utica.

As for the Bonino for Sutter trade, I don't like it too much but it does free up the second line center spot for Bo and allows Sutter to play as the 3rd line center while Vey can center the 4th line.

How much $$$ did Richardson sign for?

What happens with Sven's contract now that the Canucks added more salary in Sutter over Bonino
