Philly resigns Couturier for 6 years @ 4.33 M per year.

I wonder if this will have any effect on the Sutter extension cause they are fairly similar players in their roles as defensive centers and statistically they were nearly the same last season.

Couturier: 82GP, 15G, 22A, 37PTS, +/- +4, 28 PIMS, ATOI 18:23

Sutter: 80GP, 21G 12A, 33PTS +/- +6 14 PIMS, ATOI 17:19

Couturier is only 22 years old and might have some untapped potential considering he was drafted 8th overall, and did a great job getting under the skin of the Penguins in the 2012 playoffs during that crazy first round series between Philly and Pittsburgh

Not far off, they are talking 4.4 over 5 years.

Jamie Benn's salivating over his next contract

murd0c 07-30-2015 02:05 PM

so rumors that Sutter is going to sign a 5 year contract extension for a 4.4mill avg

6o4__boi 07-30-2015 02:08 PM

if that's true, at least towards the end of that contract it'll hopefully be a good deal right

If he wants 5 years, it should be a cap hit under $4m. If he's okay with 3 years, then $4.4m isn't terrible...but holy shit, really? For a guy that's just...alright?

Mike Oxbig 07-30-2015 03:49 PM

Still dont know why clendenning + 2nd was added... why wasnt it a straight up trade to help PITS cap hit with kessel

our future captain - Quality two-way center with a little upside.

bonino - Two-way center with some upside.

I would say a bonifide 2nd Liner should make 4.5-5.5 , but the market has him pegged around this.. Ie couturier. Don't have a problem much with it personally .. I wish it was less term but whatever only takes him into 31 if they do it.

dbaz 07-31-2015 04:43 AM

too many people looking into advanced stats to determine their take on the deal. has semin not taught you anything?

murd0c 07-31-2015 07:11 AM

So it looks like Sutter will be resigned for that amount later today or this weekend.

Durrann 07-31-2015 07:18 AM

but how do they know if sutter will be a good fit for canucks?
like what if he just straight up sucks
shouldn't we wait..? lol

hopefully there isn't an NMC or NTC with it
it'd suck if he busts after two years and we're stuck with paying a bottom six that kinda money

it's hard to judge all the moves/decisions that Benning has made without actually seeing the product on ice. (ie. Markstrom/Sutter/Baertschi/Bartkowski). Won't really know until at least January next year.

A Sutter deal like that reminds me of Kesler in a sense. I still remember going wtf when Nonis matched the Philly offer sheet for $1.9M after 10G 13A in 82GP in 05-06.
I was still going wtf when he scored 6G and 10A in 48GP during that contract but that was probably Nonis' smartest move besides fleecing Florida for Luongo.

Jmac 07-31-2015 08:16 AM

Kesler was 21 when he signed that offersheet, though, plus the cap skyrocketed from $39M in '05-'06 to $44M in '06-'07, a whopping 12.8% increase. Equivalent to the cap going up by $9M next season.

Cause Benning would look like a massive idiot for making the trade then letting Sutter walk as a UFA after this season

He also did this with Sbisa when his contract was up and for some reason overpaid him for 3.6M :rukidding:
