| Purchasing a Car
Hey guys, so I'm interested in purchasing a car; however, I have come to know that the car is not registered to the guy who is selling it. The guy claims that it is under his friend's name but has all required documents to transfer signed.
How should I go about this?

Look over the paper work, if the transfer/tax form has been completed then you can purchase the car.
If the car is uninsured and you would like to buy a permit, the registered owner can fill out an authorization form to the person contacting you and buy the permit, this authorization form is 1 time use only per permit purchase.
However the authorization form does not allow him to buy plates.
If he has this form then it will seem a bit more legitimate. Recently sold a car for a friend so that's what I learned, hope that helps.
Better than "no" lol

sounds very shady..I would not get involved in third party private sellers. Id you do decide to buy it make sure you do the LIEN search, farfax and BCAA 125 point inspection; you will be much safer to know whats really going on.

sometimes curbers do this when they are flipping cars. they will buy the car and not transfer to their name. this way they dont have to pay tax when they buy it, and it doesnt throw up red flags that they are buying/selling a lot of vehicles.

THIS.
Sold/Bought cars exactly same way + I've got myself power of attorney from original owner to make things even more clear before transaction.
You can also give ICBC a call to see if everything is a go before purchase.
I've asked the original owner to call ICBC in advance and give authorization of any possible future sales -> confirmed both sides and had NO problem with sales at all.
