random thought of the day: Confused while getting gas

So, I'm standing there pumping my gas this morning, brain booting up for the day, when I notice something that makes me go "hmmm?"

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...pszdim7l34.jpg

I get the "no smoking" sign. Smoking isn't the healthiest habit, but when you start smoking around the pumps that's just stupid.

I kind of get the "no key" sign too. I made sure my keys were not on my person as per the pump recommendation.

But the lightning bolt threw me off.

Are the stations owners angry at the Tampa Bay Lightning?
Did Steven Stamkos eat their baby, maybe?

Or is this their polite way of denying service to Thor, the god of lightning?

My train of thought went to the idea that it means static electricity. But does the average person know they're statically charged? Most of the idiots I encounter on the road don't know how to drive, let alone have any knowledge of static discharge.

So I pulled out my phone and snapped a pic to share with RS.

I mean, there wasn't a sign that said I couldn't.

Berzerker 06-24-2015 10:10 AM

Lol. Maybe the lightning bolt represents any electrical devices. Ie. Your phone. You broke the rules because you didn't understand them, just like you accused the "Idiots"

Berz out.

But really, that is a pretty vague symbol for electronic devices. Tapping into my inner Timpo, I GIS'd "no electronic devices" and came up with a few clearer options.

or

or even

Not a single lightning bolt to be found.

So I ask, where is your god now!?

or something like that.....

Granted, if I saw a sign that said this

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...2L._SX300_.jpg

I still would have taken a pic, because I am a badass. Also RS is slow during the summer, plus I'm stuck at my desk.

Manic! 06-24-2015 11:16 AM

It's a myth that using phones near pumps will cause fire.

underscore 06-24-2015 12:02 PM

I'm gonna guess that means no creating sparks, most portable electronics aren't a hazard but some dumbass trying to jump start a dead car at the pump is a big hazard.

originalhypa 06-24-2015 12:05 PM

So far we have
  • no electronics
  • no sparks
  • no jumpstarting your shitbox

See berz, it is confusing!

:lol

Hypa's going to go into overload if he has to hit up a North Van gas staion in the near future:

Probably elementary schools back in the day.

I'm kind of surprised they allow cell phones now though.

BoostedBB6 06-24-2015 02:29 PM

It is very hard to light the fuel vapour that comes from the filler neck, with a spark from an electronic device BUT it has happened before.
There have been significant changes the the OPD valves and other components of the pumps to help prevent this from happening......even so, do you really want to take a chance? Put the phone down for 3-5 min and pump the gas.

bcrdukes 06-24-2015 03:49 PM

hypa,

Is this you?

BrownBear 06-24-2015 04:14 PM

When jumping a car power first then ground, when taking it off do it backwards. You'll get no sparks. It's safe to jump a car by gas fumes if you know how

No, it actually means turn off your engine/take keys out of ignition. Why would you not have your keys on you?

And for the lighting bolt, Im going to guess it means discharge the static electricity on you before fueling.

Questions like these are the main reason that municipalities in the Lower Mainland are increasingly enacting bylaws that prohibit people from pumping their own gas...

I was at a talk with the guest speaker being the buy behind the plan. The guy is a lawyer who quit his job and is close to broke.

His goal is to raise a bunch of money so he can travel around the world promoting his idea.

Some of the slides he used where out of date and he said he was to lazy to change them. Also a lot of the stuff he was saying was wrong and misleading. His dream car is a go cart with just enough room for his brief case. He also wonders why a Chevy Suburban has worse fuel economy then a ford model T.

Really?
At any time did you think to yourself "this must be a satire thread"?
Because it was pretty fuken obvious that it was.

Replies like this are the reason you shouldn't be online at 1:37 in the morning. Were you drunk, high, or just tired when you decided to ridicule the OP?

I swear, 90% of Revscene members are intelligent and have a sense of humor.

Then there are these two dipshits.

Nope. Hypa is a retard. Nice try trying to save yourself though

originalhypa 06-25-2015 08:07 AM

retard?
ouch...
Have some class. Some people resemble that remark. Call people idiots, jizzstains or dipshits, but not retards.

Make people think twice about creating new threads, and you won't have anything to comment on.

think about it.
