Going camping, please aware

Friends are deciding to go camping in one of the many spots in BC. But most of them are reserved and theres no spots left. I see that some of them say FCFS (First come first serve)

How do those work? You just arrive early and stake a claim by parking at those spots or??

Arrive early as fuck and be prepared to not get a spot. (Not joking.)

Will it be that bad? Thinking arriving at the campsite around 7am.

well, if it's 7am on a friday morning i'd say it's 50/50 at best

earlier in the week or mid week shouldnt be a problem. Also really depends on the spot. There are a lot of government campsites on lakes which are off the road a bit, but have plenty of spots and only really get "full" on long weekends

there are other ones such as chipmunk creek in chilliwack which have carved out spots, easy access from the city, and any car can drive to them. So typically the prime/more local sites are always busy

haha yea. planning to go to chiliwack lake on a friday in July. Seems like it would be a toss up for the spots then.

could always hike through the bush and try to find a spot on the lake that isnt a "camp site" if you have tents etc.

I think you can book it online for some locations.

My friends booked/reserved a spot for Cultus Lake this past weekend online IIRC

heres a lesser known site ..

20mile bay is nice

http://westharrisonreservations.com

theres also chehalis lake.. they used to have adds on craisgslist to reserve

IMO.. theres no point going to camp sites at 7am.. if the sites full and if people plan to leave that day they wont leave till check out.. which is 11am
best to go around 10.. scope out spots.. see if people are leaving.. then talk to them

also check government campsite hourly as people cancel all the time.

if you have cars then plan to get to one of those first come first serve sights as early as fuckin possible. like line up at the gate in the morning before the area opens.

if you've got 4x4s then there are plenty of spots you can get to which shouldnt be too bad.

So you dont stake at the individual camping site itself but just at the camp gate in the front?
