I think Honda did a great job on the new Civic, it's gonna stir up a lot of discussion whether it looks ugly or beautiful.

Yah I'm not sure at the moment. Front looks similar to the Mazda 3, rear definitely has elements of a Crosstour. Don't like the rims at all. But it does have a really nice side profile and I love the taillights. I'll stick with my '14 Si Sedan for now.
Mazda 3 still looks sporty but could use a refresh
But until then I'll wait until the official reveal of the Civic to make any final judgements

The thing that bugs me with the Corolla is, after all these years, it is still using essentially the same engine. Whereas with Honda and Mazda at least, they have developed completely new engines for their current cars.

As long as it sells....I think that's what Toyota only cares about.
And it still has a 4 speed automatic as a base transmission.

That's what I don't understand -- how can anyone still think it is a good buy in this day and age, and be willing to pay so much for it? The competitors are charging roughly the same amount for their cars, and those cars are running on current technology.

"Hey, if it ain't broke don't fix it!"
Save yourself the money and buy a 9th gen Corolla and stick a double DIN in it. Same difference.

Yah I really like the back side of the new Civic. I wonder how large of a trunk opening it has due to the "fastback" style design. Front end is forgettable and looks like any other Acura over the last few years.
Also looks like they tried to cram a lot of the stuff from the previous 2-tier gauges into 1-tier, which makes the central gauge look really busy. Very clean around the HVAC controls and navigation screen, but the area around the shifter looks super cheap.
Have to see it in person really to get a feel for it.
Pretty lame that the turbo models only come with a CVT. Imagine the possibilities if Honda decided to stick in a version of the TLX's DCT standard as the only transmission for the turbo model

That's cause the majority of Corolla owners are basic people. They just need an A-B car. The years of reliability the Corolla has, is a no brainer for someone who wants a car that will last. Hell I beat on my Corolla every day.. To this day its still solid. Nothing major was replaced and with the FSB and RSB it handles great. You might've seen mine at the VCMC AutoX(Took first place for novice in 2012). I dont see why Toyota would change the engine. Its great and does well. What they need to change is the damn crappy plastic interior. Then again its a Corolla there's always something to complain about. If it isn't the car its the driver.

Had a chance to drive the Honda Jade (a 6 seat Civic wagon) in Hong Kong with 1.5L Turbo 150hp. You will be disappointed, don't expect "OMG. 1.5L Honda engine with a Vtec turbo! teh fastar". I don't think the extra 25hp in the US model will be much different.
Anyway, had 6 people in the car, the performance is only adequate, even on straight road, the engine and CVT pull to above 4000rpm to accelerate. The whole setup is meant to be a fuel saving rather high rev ricer like the EK.
