As much as it sucks, that's a ticketable offence. | Yeah, 32 over is pretty much indefensible.
Most people do 5-10 over in 50 zones, IME, so I'd say OP would have a valid beef if he were in that range. Maybe even up to 15 over, but anything beyond that is basically OP crying "but that guy did it, too!" |

LOL stop being a cry baby. My dad got caught doing 80 on a 50 road. Told the cops he a good driver and haven't had a speeding ticket in years. Cops ran his liscense and he was telling the truth. The cop decided to give my dad a warning instead.
But guess why he only got a warning? Because he wasn't arguing with the cop he knew he was speeding, he admitted to speeding, apolgize for his actions and ask for a 2nd chance.
You on the other hand, argue with the cops as to why he give you the ticket and not others, knew your were speeding but feels you shouldn't be ticket. Good job.

I didn't even say anything until after he gave me the ticket. Just straight up asked for license and he went and wrote the ticket. I had no chance to say anything until after he gave me. But I'm actually thankful because the cop actually started the argument and say some contradicting info caught on cam. I already lawyered up and he said he has a high chance of getting it thrown out. I only have to pay $100 paperwork fee and if he lose, he'll eat my ticket and all other cost.

But what if it was $100 off instead of $25?
I bet a lot of people would stop filing dispute because of significant discount. | There's already a $50 difference between paying early and a lost dispute (saving $25 vs paying $25 extra), I think the dispute cost should be raised before considering lowering the early payment discount. Quote:

You get a $196 ticket.
Scenario 1: Pay within 30 days. $196-$25=$171
Scenario 2: Dispute it and lose the case: $196
Scenario 3: Dispute and win the case: $0
The difference is $25

I've heard of bus drivers and cab drivers hiring a lawyer for speeding tickets because that could cost their job.
They usually pay at least $700 to $1,000 depending on the case.

The difference is $25 | Scenario 2 is wrong, you pay an extra $25 if you lose the dispute.

Scenario 2: Dispute it and lose the case: $196+$25=$221
Scenario 3: Dispute and win the case: $0 (unlikely since OP is an idiot)

No you don't, if you lose, you just pay the full amount. The judge will not add $25 on top of your ticket price.

DUI, fraud, assault, robbery, arson, murder, anything. People lawyer up for something that they know they are guilty on.
I'm not approving it, but just letting you know what happens in the real world.

Unlike DUI (Criminal Code of Canada), Speeding (Motor Vehicle Act) is a regulatory matter.
So if you get caught for speeding, you will NOT be labelled as "criminal" and won't have any criminal record or won't have to serve in prison.
Speeding is a violation of regulation, and you are considered as "violator" of regulation, not a "criminal".

I'm not approving it, but just letting you know what happens in the real world. | Those are criminal offences that can carry consequences worth exponentially more than $171.
Back on topic:
Everybody speeds and don't get caught every time.
Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug.

Being guilty for a speeding ticket is simply guilty by being over the speed limit. There's nothing to get a lawyer for.
Those examples above that you gave have plenty of other reasons to get a lawyer for. Self-defense, reduced time as an accomplice, perhaps some Charter violations come to mind. Apples to Oranges.

Making the thread seemed like a good idea for a research paper. Portraying emotions through forums and chat groups and the effects of trolling. If I wasn't allowed to, sorry, you can delete thread but it did bring quite the commotion though. Haha. |
