PSA - re: Hwy 1 HOV lane It's now 2+ occupants, 24/7 Don't get busted if you're used to driving solo in the evening/early morning and weekends. Terrible use of the extra lane, IMO. It was actually setup well, as long as the slow-ass drivers stayed out of it. . |
how is 2 ppl considered HOV??? lol |
Why would they change that ?! Stupid |
Oh fuck right off. So stupid. |
This is stupid. Didn't know people specifically needed HOV at 3 in the morning |
2 people at 3am? why.... |
Because what is love? http://media.giphy.com/media/12mgpZe6brh2nu/giphy.gif |
HOV decisions don't really seem thought out too well here. The certain times when HOV kicks in was a great idea that provided purpose when needed. I don't drive Hwy 1 too often but on Hwy 99 coming out of white rock they have a bus only lane almost all the way to the tunnel which seems like it could be providing a lot more purpose since there's only 2 (i think?) bus lines that actually use that lane. The stretch doesn't get high congestion traffic but it would still ease up volume....someones not thinking. |
The old way made perfect sense; why are they changing it? Jesus, BC is run by a bunch of old out of touch hippies. Next big idea from local government: You guys know what would be great? If the HOV lane was for cars between 6a.m. and 7p.m. and all other times including weekends it was for cyclists. And then I think after a few years we'll just go ahead and make the Burrard street bridge a pedestrian/cyclist bridge only and on weekends we'll close half of it off to pedestrians and cyclists so people can do yoga. We'll keep the suicide bars up though that we plan to build. Wouldn't want anyone enjoying the view from the bridge to suddenly get the impulse to jump off of it after striking a downward dog pose and finding their centre. I mean, you could just go a few blocks down and jump off the Granville bridge but surely nobody could figure that out. /ridiculous rant |
I smell cash grab. :noyoudidnt: Makes it easier for an officer to issue a ticket and the law is now clean and clear. Driver only=NO HOV. That's too bad. Because the HOV on-ramp to Hwy 1 Eastbound from Grandview Hwy is fun to drive at night. :joy |
i see cars with only one person driving in the HOV all the time going east bound in the morning because everyone is going too fucken slow in the fast lane. |
Seriously I just don't understand the logic of some people.. It was PERFECT on the time and day scheme. The change is 100% a cash grab for police, and it's a sad one. |

lol yeah it is...but it's also their favorite spot to bust people this place never makes any logical decisions when it comes to roads and transportation. Like why the fuck does Barnet still have an HOV lane? Why the fuck is it on the right?! Pretty sure it's monkeys running the show. It's gotta be. Monkeys pretending to be people. |
Well... 2+ is still better than 3+ at least |
They were out ticketing people this morning already. |
The only sign I see of this change was the electronic sign just outside cassier tunnel heading east. How can they ticket people a day after the change with almost no signage of the change. Mother fuckers |
Yep. King Ed -> Willingdon, Westbound, nothing. I was bombing down on Sunday and just noticed the signs that had the times on them were gone. Heading back, there weren't any notifications til the Gaglardi onramp. If they want to make money off the HOV lane, charge a monthly fee to use it as an express lane for single occupant cars, during rush hour. But to have it as HOV 24/7, is just stupid. |
Instead of complaining on RS people should be complaining to there local politician. |

wait til it gets to be at least 10 pages then send thread to politician |
Coquitlam mayor has already been fighting for 2 years to get a toll reduction for Tri-city residents cause they don't have access to the HOV lane, due to the offramp starting way in Surrey. |

I think you might be right. |

In Los Angeles on the dreaded 10 Freeway, there is a good stretch starting just outside of Downtown LA where the HOV lane begins as a toll route and HOV lane. How it works is you buy an RFID box/unit and select the appropriate choice of driving (i.e. single occupant, 2, people, 3+) in which the RFID will select your rate category and bill accordingly (HOV is free.) So if you were a single occupant and simply wanted to bomb through traffic during rush hour, you have the option of doing so. But not here. HOV 24/7. Puts McDonald's to shame! |
The original deal was during construction, single occupancy car can use the HOV lane.. now everything is complete and there is no closing lanes in the middle of the freaking night anymore.. so they made it 24/7. I think the traffic radios made the announcement for a few years something like During Port Mann construction blah blah blah. I thought much like parking signs that change for special events, you are supposed to pay attention to the signs. eg if you don't pay attention to parking sign and parked your car on some arterial road which changed during certain events like say Fireworks or Santa Claus Parade and your car get towed I don't think you have a leg to stand on legally. They did remove the HOV time limits on the signs. |
