Blackberry Priv Review!

BBMme 11-19-2015 11:06 PM

^
Did he just compared a droid keyboard to a BlackBerry keyboard?! WTF.

Nabatron 11-19-2015 11:49 PM

he always so against blackberry even if its running android! I mean for blackberrys first android device and running some of their own os on it I would say this is miles ahead of bb10!

Also he screwed up on the specs it has 3gb of ram and not 2gb..

The guy from techno buffalo loves his BlackBerry priv

inv4zn 11-23-2015 09:47 PM

I had mine for 3 days now and it's absolutely brilliant.

Never used any blackberry before, came from ~6 years of android - and I feel right at home, loving the added features, and not inconvenienced by anything so far.

The only negative thing I will agree on with some of the reviews is that the slider build quality is a hit/miss, but it's not poorly made by any means.

Crackberry is having a 25% discount on all their accessories, which is on top of their original discount. I just saved $142 on my future BlackBerry priv goodies. The sales ends dec 2nd

Picking up my BlackBerry priv tomorrow!

inv4zn 12-09-2015 10:10 PM

Here's my experience!

Bought from shopbb, and it had creaky sides and back, but I thought meh. That was when I made the post above, saying 3 days in, brilliant!

About a day later, the volume up button became "mushy". It wasn't stuck or anything, but no more "click". Called customer service (which I'm fairly certain is run out of a shed in the Philippines), and they overnighted me a replacement which arrived 2 days later, complete with return packaging.

The replacement phone (which was manufactured 4 days before the defective one) is rock solid - no issues at all.

Software is solid - no glitches/bugs/crashes. Hub works flawlessly, although I have never used the BBOS version so I can't tell if it's worse than what it should be.

I find I use the physical keyboard more for longer texts (emails, etc.), but I use it all the time to scroll through webpages.

Was a bit skeptical with the phone, but as long as you don't get a dud, you'll be perfectly happy with it.

The ONLY complaint I have is that it's impossible to find a tempered glass screen protector due to the curved screen. I have a bestbuy ClearPlex on it right now but I HATE the texture.

BBMme 12-10-2015 04:51 PM

I have only been using it for couple hours and overall I'm am extremely happy. The only time I felt the priv got hot was when I was charging and updating. The keyboard is a little small, but you will get use to it, it's really not that bad. I think I lucked out because the build quality is solid. The apps runs smoothly and I haven't seen any poor performance so far. Update more after a week of usage.

I'm too happy that i cant comment on it xD

ama.

Hypothetical question: Would you guys still be as happy with the Priv if Blackberry had installed BB10 OS? Or is Android the future for BB?

As we all know, Chen had made it clear that hardware is not a sustainable business. He's putting his money into software. We see a similar fate with Nokia - They sold their phone business to Microsoft and concentrated on software and development, something both Nokia and Blackberry are good at.

If any of you follow, Jolla, which is spin-off of ex-Nokia employees to create a new phone and OS, recently announced a huge failure where they lost funding to continue as a business (I got burned by pre-buying their tablet.) Had they concentrated strictly on software, they would have been okay.

the priv having android is what sold me on the phone, integrated hub with bb is just a plus

That's a definitive yes for me. If BB somehow managed to secure Google Play services and Play Store, you have a solid blend of hardware and software right in front of you.

But unfortunately BB10 is on life support right now due to lack of developers wanting to jump on board. Android is BlackBerry's future. They will still make hardware in the coming years without a doubt, but there will also be a lot of focus and resources poured into implementing new and old features from BB10 onto Android.

BBMme 12-11-2015 01:19 PM

I hate to admit it but the android os on the BlackBerry is incredible. I can deposit cheques on my td Canada app, kill time on Instagram, operate nest etc. Plus still have most of the BlackBerry features. Every app have been working flawlessly and couldn't be happier. It's not perfect for sure, but I'm 100% confident they will implement more after every update.

Picked up a Priv today. I've been a dedicated BB user for about 8-10 years. Only had it an hour so no comments yet.

I was really disappointed when I heard this phone would have Android over BB 10. The only benefit of Android is the apps.

To whoever asked earlier about the Hub it is a little glitchy on Android. It is incredible smooth on BB10 so hopefully they can sort this out soon.

knight604 12-15-2015 02:34 PM

Its fine for me , the state of the hub right now is what it was when bb10 launched. so dont expect to be all nice and dandy if you are coming from a bb10 device with 10.3.2.

SoNaRWaVe 12-15-2015 03:20 PM

didn't they come out with an update a few days ago? if you picked it up today, it may not have the latest update it on it.

knight604 12-15-2015 03:30 PM

Updates were yesterday

inv4zn 12-15-2015 03:40 PM

Every time I watch a video on Facebook (app, not through browser in phone), it'll buffer intermittently (regardless of whether i'm on Wifi or LTE), and then eventually the phone will restart - it also gets really hot, only during this.

Is this a bug in the new Facebook video player, or the phone?

BBMme 12-15-2015 07:56 PM

I just watched a 17min video on YouTube and the BlackBerry priv DID NOT get hot what so ever. Warm yes, but not hot as some people stated it did. I personally think the speakers are quite loud, where other said it wasn't. BlackBerry release updates for all their apps ie; hub, clock, keyboard, clock etc
I had to manually update each apps

inv4zn 12-15-2015 10:14 PM

its not so much the heat, but the phone restarting lol.

hmm maybe its my app or my phone then!

inv4zn 12-17-2015 03:13 PM

Random restarts continuing, getting more frequent.

Restarted while opening an e-mail on hub, reading revscene, etc. Nothing memory intensive.

Any similar experiences from anyone here?

knight604 12-17-2015 04:41 PM

Factory reset?
