The problem with blackberry is not their devices , its the marketing and vicious back lash from media for not jumping into the market earlier with bb10. Then when it was too late , it struggled to maintain traction.

Balsillie and Lazaridis failed to recognize that IOS and android would be such a strong competitor leading to the downfall of Blackberry as it has been having for past couple of years even after Heins and almost resulting in (dare i say) bankruptcy. Now Blackberry has got John Chen trying to make the company bleed less cash and making blackberry more profitable.

The game changer now is android of course being secured , which was only way Blackberry would put android on their devices and the physical keyboard , everyone knows this cannot be beat as blackberry holds all the best patents for it. Plus it is likely to have no bloatware!

"Today, I am confirming our plans to launch Priv, an Android device named after BlackBerry's heritage and core mission of protecting our customers' privacy. Priv combines the best of BlackBerry security and productivity with the expansive mobile application ecosystem available on the Android platform.

Today, BlackBerry is announcing two new additions to its handheld device roadmap. First, the company will launch a flagship slider device, Priv, which will run on the Android operating system, bringing together the best of BlackBerry security and productivity with the expansive mobile application ecosystem available on the Android platform. In combination with BlackBerry's efforts to support Android for Work on the BES12 platform, the new device will offer best in class security for enterprise customers. BlackBerry expects the device to be available late in the calendar year in major markets in-store and online, and will release further details in the coming weeks.

While the new device will provide a choice in OS to new and existing customers, the company remains committed to the BlackBerry 10 operating system, which enables industry-leading security and productivity benefits. Second, the company will continue to develop and enhance the BlackBerry 10 operating system and is confirming plans to release platform updates focused on security and privacy enhancements, with version 10.3.3 scheduled to be available in March 2016."

A year ago today marked the launch of the Passport which also means I've used the device for a year now. And while I'm 100% happy and contented with the device, I'll be picking up the Priv when it launches. I'm curious how Blackberry manages to integrate its productivity suite within the Android ecosystem. Though I'll probably hold on to my Passport until I'm fully contented with the Priv.

Chen's done an amazing job leading Blackberry since their demise. I believe he's delivered on point, and often above and beyond expectations.

He's turned Blackberry into a lean machine for sure. A lot of people doubted their stock prices and performance, but I think they're one to keep in the back pocket for long term investment.

i wonder how a case is going to work? it needs a case because of the camera, but i dont know how a slider case would look.

phone looks pretty good tho. i just really hope the hub works properly and gestures come with future updates.

never thought id go back to a keyboard and i have no interest in a slider, but if the hub functions how it should, and they somehow make gestures work on android, i could be convinced to put down my z30 for a perv until a full touch comes one day.

Oh yeah there are no BB10 devices in the horizon, if you are planning to wait... rip

This will likely be Blackberry's last attempt to regain the traction in market because if it flops , all the hardware resources will be poured into software.

Feature I'm probably going to miss the most is swipe up and peek! Might be a long shot, but I hope they add that in a future release.

God this thing is sexy. They need to release this hard and fast. Depending on price, I might order on day 1. Really banking hard on this after the disappointment that was 5P.

i have high hopes for this phone, compared the specs to multiple phones (6s+ and note 5) and its just as good as em or even better, super excited to hear and see that its even thinner than expectation, woo!!
