Should I deal with * Velocity Cars * ?

Good afternoon all.

I'm in the market for a new car, and a lot of the inventory at Velocity Cars interests me.
I'd like to purchase a car from there, but have heard a lot of mixed reviews.
I don't trust them entirely, but i do want to buy from them

Does anyone have experience with them that could give advice?
Any tips on how to shop from somewhere questionable without mistakes?
Things to look out for? Thanks

If you don't trust them, why do business with them?

Seems dumb.

Their MO is pretty simple:

Saturate the market with fan boy toys and see who bites. Their inventory is huge and they're not very good at keeping up with it. They bring the most random shit in sometimes. Most of the cars I've seen aren't as sorted out as you'd think they'd be based on the papers and 'spiel' they give you.

Not sure about now but in the past, they were known to keep people in their offices and force them to buy a car (happened to me).

They've also been known to seek legal action against anyone who badmouths their company which is childish beyond all levels of comprehension.

Take from that what you will. I'd personally buy a well sorted out car from an enthusiast who's selling for a legitimate reason.

EDIT: Sampling of their latest offerings

Personal experience, I went to look at an Evo that was posted in the website. Get there and it's got a blown diff, they couldn't even sell the car.. I saw the cars sitting there waiting to be sold and they did have a lot of R grade cars from what it looks like.

Looks like more of a grey to me, maybe just a typo in the ad.

I personally wouldn't deal with them, I'd rather import myself. Seems to me the good stuff they have is quite expensive, and the cheap stuff is the kind of stuff no one would import themselves. Importing yourself opens up options you don't have with the selection as a dealer. I know people who have done exactly that and landed themselves a beauty for a great price. It does require a great deal of research and paperwork but as far as I'm concerned the payoff is definitely worth it.

Also lol @ how much price gouging they're doing for 25+ y/o cars. $20k for an S12?

Are they crazy? $100k for a '93? Even local models with less mileage of similar vintage go for far less money. And this is one of the least desirable H1 models, too.

Although I wont lie... I kinda want this thing.

Maybe they meant $2k? Unless the thing has an FJ24 in it or something...

I had an S12 a few years back. While I loved that thing, there's no way in fucking hell an S12 can ever reach an asking price of $20k. Sure, this particular one they're selling has an FJ20ET but... wooooooo. Nothing special.

Worth MAYBE $5k, I'd say.

i bought a car from them and im in car sales and i hated every moment of me being there. i had my bmw inspected by one of the best mechanics in the city and had Korva collision look at the body. it checked out, i wrote them a cheque, told them not to touch my car from the moment i put a deposit on it to the moment i picked it up.

just make sure the market and the price that they are asking is on par and have it inspected up down and left and right. the only reason i bought from them is the other option i had was to bring a car from europe unseen.

Friend went to go check a S15 Spec R that they had advertised, turns out it wasnt a Spec R at all and they found that out when he tried to go into what should have been 6th gear on the Spec R (Car has all the spec r stickers on it as well).

These guys don't know shit, just buy R grade vehicles and mark them up 10 fold, worse than Tyee Imports imo

The Spec R 6 speed isn't terribly good, so changes are it was swapped to a 5 speed when the 6 blew up. That said I've seen a few vehicles that Velocity has removed expensive parts from after taking the pictures and making the ad up.

Just import it yourself, that's what I did. I bought straight from a dealers, but if you don't want to buy straight from an auction or dealer, there are companies who will look it over for you over there, like a mechanic buddy taking it for a test drive, taking videos etc. Bit of a risk buying sight unseen, but it worked out for me.

I have caught there GM in enough lies to make him look like swiss cheese.

Guy even made himself look like a complete fool when saying that his site didnt say something when it clearly did, has someone remove it from the site to try and make me look like an idiot forgetting there are cached pages of his site that show that he's full of shit.

There a bunch of liars and simply sustain there business by buying fan boy cars and saturating the market. If you are considering a car from them take it to an unbiased third party repair shop to inspect the car.

Didn't they used to be a sponsor of revscene? They tried to stop a lot of legit shoppers from posting their reviews and then the thread got turned into a gong show.

Went to check out a car they had on their lot. Was killing time before an appointment and was in the area (old location) and dropped by to check it out. Weather was good and I was legitimately interested so I thought why not?

Got out of my car and was greeted by a salesman. First questions out of his mouth were related to my car, what I owed on it, how much was left in the finance etc. I thought 'what the fuck?' but answered the questions loosely.

Afterward, I tell him what car I'm interested in and he shows it to me and talks about how the company works. He asked if I was interested in driving it and I mentioned my appointment and he said OK.

Car sat for a long time. Covered in dust, engine was dirty. Interior looked fine.

We end up going inside. He doesn't show me any reports. Instead we talk about how I'm going to pay for the car today. Being thrown completely off guard, I mentioned a possible trade in (on the car I didn't bring and was not even insured).

There was some back and forth between him and I regarding numbers and trade-in and he went to get the Manager. Keep in mind at this point, I never said I was going to buy the car. The Manager came in and was pushing me to buy the car to the point of stating it as a fact. Keep in mind I pulled up only 15 minutes prior. I also mentioned repeatedly that I had an appointment and just stopped by to see the car in person so I can make a decision and come back very soon (I told them this).

They wanted me to a put a hold on the car because 'it won't last long'. The Manager was blocking the door at this point and I had 2 people coercing me to buy this car. Remember....I DIDN'T TEST DRIVE IT.

Thankfully, the Manager had to respond to a call and moved away from the door.

After some more back and forth, I stood up and said 'I gotta go now or I'm gonna be late'. That's when the salesman said 'alright, have a good day', turned to his computer (about 100 degree angle) and didn't say a single word after.

I got into my car, peeled the fuck away and asked myself repeatedly 'what the fuck just happened?' I could not believe what I experienced.

As for the car? It lasted long, very long on their lot. Roughly 7 more months after my visit. Car was priced at half from when I saw it.

I'd rather get a prostate exam from Curious George than ever go back to this place. I've driven by their new facility and it looks more like a Pick 'n Pull than a dealership.

According to their post history, they haven't posted on RS since August 2014. Probably a good idea, considering all the shit being thrown at them.

Seems like the answer to this thread is:

If you can avoid it, don't buy from them, save yourself an unpleasant experience. If you are interested in a car on their lot, and are willing to pay their markup, have it inspected thoroughly elsewhere first.
