Telus tech came to install Internet 50. I asked him to do some testings as well. He suspected there might be something wrong with Telus modem while testing. He went ahead and replaced the modem and after that, he was able to get a download speed using wifi from my computer room at about 20 Mb/s. I still went ahead and asked him to install internet 50 with wifi booster. Now I have 2.4G and 5G options. On 5G, I'm consistently getting 50 Mb/s. Maybe down the road, I will just revert back to internet 25 as 50 Mb/s is really an overkill for me.

May I ask what exactly is the WiFi booster? Is it the range extenders you can get a NCIX/Best Buy etc? Thanks

Telus 25. Looks like I got shafted...

But the only reason I'm even on Telus 25 is because Telus is trying to convince me why I should upgrade to "25" by giving me a free upgrade for 6 months,
while letting me continue paying what I was paying for "15".

So what do you guys even do that require such fast internet speeds?
I was streaming videos fine with Telus 15...

flagella 09-16-2015 05:10 AM

You definitely don't need 50, or even 25 for normal internet browsing or even watching youtubes, if you can consistently get 15-16 on your internet 15.

JaPoola 09-16-2015 06:25 AM

Don't you get higher download caps with higher bandwidth tiers?

Eastwood 09-16-2015 09:41 AM

Shaw 30 better than advertised. On the Island however.

yeah, higher bandwidth is why i have shaw 50 currently. but i just recently will be making the switch over to telus 25 and optik tv etc. hope it works out well. the deal i got is for tv, homephone and internet. for the first 6 months its $95/mo, after 6 months its $115 and then after a year its about $190ish. still not bad and cheaper than im paying with thaw. i just hope the service is just as good.

I had Telus 15 and was always cutting it close with the data cap.
Instead of having to pay overage fee, I opted to get Telus 25 for just a few bucks more. Higher cap and higher speeds.

i'm on shaw..whats your guys torrent download speeds with telus 25???....2mb/sec???

corollagtSr5 09-16-2015 08:04 PM

If internet 15 is suitable for your needs, why not just add the unlimited for 15 dollars. I'm thinking of moving down from internet 50 to internet 25 and adding unlimited, since I have phone and Optik tv.

torrent speeds really depends on where ur getting ur torrents from. personally, with private torrents, im able to get arnd 12-15MBytes/s on my BB100 plan which is 100MBits/s maxing out my commention

remember ISPs always advertises their speeds in mega bits where as torrent traffic is measures in mega bytes

Enterprise private pipe.

Replaced my USB wifi adapter as well which I guess was also limiting the speed. I consistently get about 55/15 now on Telus internet 50.

Don't buy the Actiontec range extender offered by Telus for $100, you can just go to NCIX and pick up a better one for around $40 + mail-in rebate ($30). I bought the ASUS rp-n53 yesterday and I'm waiting for the rebate to be processed, but in total, it would cost about $15. The mail-in rebate is for purchases in September, so its going to expire really soon, if a range extender is what you are looking for. I tried the Actiontec one that somebody linked earlier and I had barely 1 bar of wifi in my basement, with the ASUS, now its consistently 2 to 3 out of 4.

You guys with 25 down plan with any courier, how do you find streaming Netflix or even youtube. How much buffering you get? I have Shaw 60 just wondering if i even need that much.

Mikoyan 09-27-2015 10:17 AM

On Telus 25, no issues with buffering. Netflix is grainy for 2 secs?

steven6o4 10-05-2015 09:05 PM

On Telus 25, no issue. I would definitely suggest going with wired connection if you can. I use hardline for my laptop. Wireless, I get 6 to 10 down. Wired, I consistently get 25-26 down.

On wireless, make sure you're using wireless N and not G. Unless you're stand very close to the access point while using G, you won't get any speeds compatible to wireless N.

Ludepower 10-09-2015 12:23 AM

Hey guys is 15mb sufficient? Im having trouble connecting to xbox live games. Forza 6

Mr.Money 10-09-2015 01:53 AM

that should be plenty enough unless you have other users sharing your connection....that's when you run into problems...esp Netflix, that fat hog eats all you're internet speed away.
