Any eletrical wiring gurus? need assistance! I can't wire shit to save my life. Anyone with a bigger brain than me, please PM me. its simple stuff to most, but life threatening to me :whistle:FailFish its just a motorcycle external dash cam im trying to hook up |
Positive to the battery positive and the negative to the chassis ground |
Then my camera will be on at all times. The battery is constantly feeding power to the unit. Could I tap the power wire to like say, my rear license plate light? Or rear brake light? So my recording unit only gets power when I turn le key? |
Find switched power at the fusebox. |
simple solution, add a relay |
This switched power is sometimes called "accessory" hot or gnd (more gnd) |
Even simpler, add a switch |
What bike is this going on? |
easy stuff.. i can help u wire it depending on where ur located gimme a shout if ur in richmond |
|
or just talk to any of the audio guys like CMan333 installerz etc.. they are more than capable in helping you and they probably have the parts in hand. |
its really not that hard to add a relay, in laymans terms heres what u need to do to wire it up properly http://www.oichan.org/mods/starter/starter26.jpg prong #86 goes to any wire that has constant power when u turn on ur motorcycle, easiest wire to "tap" into is the key cylinder. look for the wire that gets a constant 12V when u turn the key to the "on" position and not a constant 12V when the key is OUT becuase that would be a 12V constant wire, or a wire where u see 12V when the engine cranks and 0V when the engine stops cranking as that would be the ignition wire or a wire that is just 0V no matter which position the key is in as that would be the ground wire prong #85 gets grounded prong #87 goes to the + terminal of the battery, dont forget to add a fuse in between prong #30 goes to the positive + cable to ur camera the - cable from ur camera u can ground it anywhere so now when ever u turn the key to the on position, the relay will switch and power on ur camera where it is drawing power directly from the battery, not from things like headlights or horn... or in some cases in cars, ppl wire the camera into the airbag fuse........................................... |
