Marrying Overseas I'll be going to Philippines in January to get married and wanted to ask anyone on RS if they have had any experience in this. What kind of documents do i need to bring from here before i go and that sort of thing. I've looked online and everything but wanted to ask someone who's been married overseas already. thanks a bunch RS! |
Getting married as the ceremony only the having the whole thing done there as well (legal stuff). My wife and I got married in her hometown (the ceremony) and we just applied for our marriage certificate here once we got back to Canada. If it's the ceremony only, think it as a vacation. You go there, spend the cash, have the ceremony done, meet the family... etc. Then by the time you come back, you just finalize the damn thing on a legal ground by having a commissioner to legalize it for you. I can't remember how much it was, but it wasn't much. Oh, and you do need 2 witnesses to be at the place too. If you need the legal stuff over there in Philippines as well, (for immigration or whatever purpose) then you'd have to consult with the consulate or the local entities in charge. But I don't see you'd need anything other than your passport. Congrats! |
Congrats! If you are planning to get marry Philippines and get the legal stuff done there I suggest calling the philippines embassy canada to get more info. Because some place require your doc so is better to have them beforehand. I know in some country (IE China) if you want to get marry there you have to prof you are single. There is a doc in China that prof your status but not in Canada so for us to actually get marry in China you have to apply for a special first have it with you (might be a good idea to also have a copy transle to the native language by a lawyer.....). |
