Maui, Hawaii

I see a Oahu and Kauai threads, figured there should be a Maui one.

Going to Maui from Nov 10th to 16th. Staying at the Andaz Wailea and Hyatt. Any recommendations for food and things to check out/do?

So far I've only got the molokini crater snorkeling.

went there earlier this year, full of kids and families and couples.

maui is super like, country side feel. Went to eat, visited the 4 seasons, ate there. mostly beach. get a map, ask around for which beaches are good. we had a car, so drove around to diff beaches everyday and chilled there. that's about it. oh had a helicopter tour of the island, if u have the cash it's semi worth it. there's a zipline but i didn't go on that.

Go to big beach, walk the volcanic rocks at Ahihi Kinau. Good snorkeling there too. Rent scoots and hang out at Kamaole beach 1, 2 or 3 a little north in Kihei.. scooters are a must in Maui for me.

Take the car up to Lahaina and spend a day there. Good shopping and eats. Head further up the road if you want to check out Kanaapali.

Do the road to Hana if you can.. I only made it part way, but great scenery, waterfalls to swim in etc. Google it and see if you're interested.

Oh and do a luau, of course. There is a great outdoor one in Lahaina.. can't remember where.

Eat shave ice with ice cream on the bottom

Edit: Go for drinks at Moose McGillycuddy's and see if my Lions shirt is still hanging in the rafters beside a Rough Riders flag

808 Bistro is a good spot to eat where you can BYOB as well.. I thought that was kinda nice. Both of these spots are a short scoot away in Kihei

We were at the Andaz a couple of months ago for our honeymoon, fantastic resort. pretty cool snorkeling right off the beach at the hotel. Morimotos is in the resort, wolf gang puck's at the 4 seasons was superb. The Lobster grilled cheese is a must while hanging out poolside for lunch.
Look into what the Andaz has to offer for airport pickup/drop offs and car use for guests, it might work out for you and you may not have to pay for a rental and save some bucks.
Any water activity you want to do, get up early for it, once noon hits the water starts getting way too choppy and only gets rougher throughout the day. The helicopter tour was pretty cool as well, take a light jacket, they're not pressurized so they get chilly in there.

I have a couple of posts in this thread that should be useful:
http://www.revscene.net/forums/69867...ui-hawaii.html

I just went earlier this month. A few things to add:

-there's a new Walmart and Target by the airport if you need supplies on your way into town

-Hwy 30/North loop is now mostly paved. Still a bit of a sketchy drive but the views are amazing

-ask a local about Little Beach on the weekends (it's clothing optional btw). They have people slack-lining, fire dancing and partying on Fri or Sat night

-Da Kitchen in Kihei, cheap, blue-collar, island eats

-Ululani's in N. Kihei is kinda so-so now but I still enjoy the No Ka Oi (passion fruit, mango, coconut)

-Piilani and Mokulele Hwy (31/311) speed limits are painfully slow (40/45mph). Deal with it. Almost no one goes over 55. It's an island thing.

Have fun chillin'.

Came back and ended up doing the following...
Morimoto - it was really good.

Star Noodle - looked up yelp reviews and decided to go. The place is kind of hidden, close to Lahaina Town. Pretty good and cheap food.

Aloha Mixed Plate - cheap and good place by Kaanapali.

Japengo - had the house seafood ramen, for $45 it was it was really good but pricy. Coming from a hotel restaurant.. Wasn't surprised. Half a lobster tail, two u10 scallops, two prawns, and four clams.

Road to Hana - it was a nightmare going and coming back. Went to the black sand beach for a bit, pretty cool.. Didn't go to the blowhole. Driving back was hell as the locals just zooms by and cuts you off.

Went snorkeling by Black Rock, didn't see much there.. Baby octopus and some fish.
