A co-worker of mine just got his Type R last month, after being on the wait list for the dealership he put a deposit down on since January (Maple Ridge).

I put my deposit down for a 2019 at the beginning of August at Surrey Honda, and I'm the first on the list. After I put my deposit down, the next week they called me offering a White or Red 2018 that were showing up in the next week/2 weeks. I had to resist and am holding out.

So at least for me, they seem to be relatively easy to come by. Just need to shop around a bit. The problem with the ones that are currently for sale at the dealership, have the dealer accessories loaded on driving the price up by thousands. Technically the base car is MSRP, but you're paying a whole bunch more for the illumination package/fake carbon fibre trim etc.

I'm thinking waiting for 2019 as well. I think there's a minor refresh but there'll be a volume knob.

There is one in every dealership sitting in the show room i pass by
I spoke to one of them ( campus) , not on hold and it is for sale. (CW)

It has been sitting there for months. Craigslist also returns a bunch of new ones as well. i dont think the demand is that high for them. i do not think there will be discounts though ..
i paid msrp.. i bought the wheel / tire warranty

Thanks. Yeah spoke to a few dealers and they want more than MSRP, saying they are not in a hurry to sell. It's fine add I'll probably wait for 2019 version.

Pretty sure it is illegal to sell a new car for more than MSRP. Unless a manager bought it, added a few km to it, and re-sold it to the dealership so it could be sold as a "used car".

At least that is what the dealer who sold me my R told me...

Bender Unit 09-20-2018 03:51 PM

Stealership live and learnt that there is gray area.
They force buyer to add protection package (marked up ceramic coating) add OEM accessories
Or else they don’t sell to You.

They are still selling CTR at MSRP

OriginalJC 09-20-2018 04:04 PM

Example:
https://vancouver.craigslist.ca/nvn/...690665441.html
$45,826
Additional Options: This unit features several additional stunning options including: illuminated door sills, ambient red interior lighting, red console illumination, a cargo net plus winter floor mats and trunk tray.

I don't see how these things = a few thousand more dollars.

Tone Loc 09-20-2018 04:49 PM

That is odd. According to Honda's own website, the total cost of those accessories is $1247.

Lighting package - $817
Cargo net - $116
All weather mats plus trunk tray - $314

My guess is the dealership factored the install time of the lighting package into the price.

I'm looking at Honda.ca and seeing different prices. Also, Honda says on the website that Accessories include installation cost, so that can't be it.

I see:
Civic Type-R - $41,090.00
Freight & PDI - $1655.00
Federal Air Conditioner Fee - $100.00
Tire Duty - $25.00
Illumination Package - $862.00
Protection Package - $317.00
Cargo Net - $125.00

Total - $44,174.00

If you add the lighting and mats separately, you get:

Civic Type-R - $41,090.00
Freight & PDI - $1655.00
Federal Air Conditioner Fee - $100.00
Tire Duty - $25.00
All Season Mats - $179.15
Ambient Lighting - $215.00
Cargo Net - $125.00
Illuminated Console - $374.00
Trunk Tray - $169.50
Illuminated Door Sill Trim - $327.00

Total - $44,259.65

They're adding in at least $1,566 somewhere.

twitchyzero 09-20-2018 09:51 PM

buys a Type R
waits for next model year, because volume knob :troll:

I mean it's only few weeks away, are they gonna 'fix' anything? better cooling maybe?

that JDM front 00 ITR must be the one with the chipped valve cover with a m00gen sticker...if so it's quite rough around the edges and resold at least twice for 10-12k few years back

IIRC, I think the dealer had Honda Plus Protection added on.

Since the tires are super low profile, is it advisable to get the tire and wheel warranty?

I think it's a good deal.
Surprising, it's actually not that expensive, it's tiered by number of years of coverage.
A friend of mine got the 2 or 3 year coverage, was around $300.
He got a nail in his sidewall, unrepairable. The warranty covered the replacement tire. Besides having to leave his car at the dealership almost 2 weeks for Continental to send a replacement (apparently there's a nationwide shortage on the stock 20's tires), it was taken care of. So already the warranty pretty much paid for itself. I'll definitely be getting the coverage on my R.

OriginalJC 09-21-2018 12:36 PM

There's a new Red Type R listed on Facebook Marketplace.

Listed as "️Honda Civic Type R️Special Edition in Ralley Red" $46,964.
Comes with:
- Carbon Fiber Wing and Side Mirror Package (I'm guessing the faux CF accessory)
- 2.0L Turbo engine, fastest front-wheel drive car! (Stock)
- Black on Red bucket Seating with Special Type R Stitching (Stock)
- Garmin Navigation system (Stock)
- Triple Centre Exhausts (Stock)
- 20' Alloy Rims with Piano Red accents (Stock)

Thanks for the info. I'll probably get the coverage and try to aim for $300. Gonna go in on Sunday to see what they offer.

OriginalJC 09-21-2018 05:17 PM

Yeah, when my friend told me he got the tire/rim protection, Figured it was like $2k. But 84 month is even reasonable.

oldsnail 09-22-2018 04:14 PM

I got the 5y Rim . tire warranty

the 2 dealers here list it for MSRP according to the website.. CW and RR

OriginalJC 09-24-2018 06:27 AM

Last I contact them a week ago, they were pre-orders and not actually in stock. Told them that was misleading and they had the ads down for a while. Guess they pulling the same stunt again.

Signing the papers right now for a brand new 2018 in Championship White.
Given the Honda bulletin that just came out to the Canadian dealerships that 2019 production will start in January (deliveries starting Feb) and the only change announced internally being Sonic Grey replacing red.... pulling the trigger on the 2018. MSRP.
