#becausespoon is always the answer when market value comes up. Like all NLA and discontinued stuff, fanboys line up and pay crazy prices since the availability is slim. For some, it's regretfully selling one back in the day and the need to rehash that nostalgia. Or perhaps the potential buyer is building a tribute car and needs every last piece to make the build complete. Either way, supply and demand + hype = #becausespoon

Finally finished the car, just in time for the season!

Engine rebuilt top to bottom and some cosmetic changes. It's not everybody's cup of tea, but damn am I happy.

OEM rebuild.

Head disassembled and hot tanked, all new seals, valve job, valve grind, head resurfaced, completely refreshed.
Crankshaft balanced and polished, new crankshaft and connecting rod bearings, pistons refreshed, new piston rings.
Plus everything else you would expect with taking the engine apart. (New gaskets, new clutch and lightweight flywheel, spark plugs, wires, as well as cleaning everything.)

I'm sure I missed some stuff, but just going off the top of my head.

I can't imagine spending 5k CAD on an aftermarket cluster. I do understand paying crazy prices for those restoring cars to OEM spec. OEM floor mats, head units and intakes all have potential to go up in price for popular modern classics.

^ Congrats on the rebuild. I look forward to seeing it at the Gyro Show again this year. And maybe the Motor Gathering

A solid choice. Now you can beat on it at the track and not worry about things breaking. OEM FTW!

I'll have my silver Supra at both shows if all goes well. My ITR is not show ready but one day.

How to differentiate between 96 and 98 spec?
I don't know which one my Spoon cluster is lol

^^bingo

Technically you should switch the green film on the back of the OEM cluster over the 96 spec to have everything work properly on a 98 and up MY.

just curious but how do you keep the front fenders from getting sandblasted from the tires?

I'm looking into getting a clear protective wrap done for them, they survived well last summer without any protection though.

I get that it may not be your taste, but I do care very much about the cosmetics of my car.. so that is untrue.

Thanks J. Lots of searching and patience was key. Look up DB8 Motorsports on FB. He always has an impressive wheel line up for sale. Mostly staggered stuff for S2K's and MR2's but he gets FWD Honda fitment stuff as well. He's got a set of bronze MF10's in 16x7 +42 coming soon.

Patience= checking same wesites DAILY, until you find it?

Sucks when the rims you want, but it's are staggered!

Basically yeah. FB is the source since all the "groups" and sellers are on there. Forums are dead but there is the odd post from old schoolers that don't do FB. Reaching out to people that may have a line on something also helps. I know a few Spoon heads in the U.S. that keep their ear to the ground.

I know you have been searching for SW388's for a while now. H-Motors Online has 15's in 5 lug currently and there is a minty refinished set on Honda Tech as well. Squared 16's have been rare lately. Most are 16x8 and 16x7 in pairs. I bought mine in 2012 when our dollar was strong. I'd have to pay almost double now with the exchange rate and Spoon hype tax
