Discontinued for 2016

Forbes has an article on 10 cars that are discontinued for 2015.

Some I totally understand, and won't miss at all, like the dated-looking LR LR2. But some surprises I thought, notably the Nissan Xterra and the Mercedes M-Class. And Scion, which already doesn't have many models, is cutting 2 of them.

Weird to think we won't see new versions of these on the road anymore.

10 Cars That Are Discontinued For 2016 | Forbes

As a point of discussion, anyone have any suggestions for cars that they think should never been discontinued?

I get where you're coming from but the RX8 is a 4dr non-turbo and as far as I'm concerned, the FRS is a rebadged BRZ - both don't stay true to their predecessors. I think the RX-Vision is in line with what the RX-7 should be.

I agree with you 100%, I'd still buy the classics as they have become too iconic.

Engine wise maybe, but I really hope they tweak the design. It looks like they ripped off the new jag (finally saw one in person the other day) and shoved an aston martin front end on it. But it's still in concept stage, so I'm impatiently waiting to see the final product.

Anyone else think the Jag XK looks kind of like a Supra from the side?

The ML is simply getting renamed not discontinued, to the GLE, as well as the GLK to the GLC and the GL to the GLS. I guess it makes sense and puts the SUVs more in line with their sedan bretheren? But what's with all the recent automakers renaming their entire line ups?

More like BRZ is a rebadged FRS. It's a boxer, so? That's about as far as it goes. It's also not AWD and is closer to the AE than any Subaru. RX8 I do agree with you. Hope the new rotary will be good

really surprised the Xterra is getting canned. its kind of the new pathfinder since the pathfinder went soft. they seem to be super popular too.

infinity really fucked up their whole line up with the current generation and naming everything a Q something. the G35/G37 was a fantastic car that sold well and they murdered that line

i think it may just be getting canned in the US, because if you go to toyota.ca you can check out/build the 2016 venza 2016 Venza Overview - Toyota Canada

or do they mean 2017

Ya I'm most disappointed losing the XTerra. I really love the early/mid-90s Pathfinder, to this day I still think they look badass. I owned one with 525,000 km and it ran like a top. I think the XTerra was closest to that. I was behind a new bulbous lame-ass SUV the other day and looked at the badge and was reminded it was a new Pathfinder. Such a shame.

I can barely tell the difference between the 2015 Pathfinder and a Hyundai Santa Fe - it's pretty bad.

many would disagree with you, and agree with fliptuner more. the FRS uses a Subaru based chassis code. the way it is built is also very Subaru. from its 5x100 bolt pattern, to all the style of nuts&bolts that are used to design it, all from Subaru's manufacturing process. I believe the base chassis is derived from an Impreza too.

^ Despite all that, it's still a Toyota design, but the two companies did work together on it.

Did not realize the Xterra was going away, drove a number of those in company fleet and the power was pretty good. Only downside was passenger space felt cramped.

I believe it was around 2005 the Xterra had the makeover, and huge power jump. Before that, it was pretty gutless. The Pathfinder made a huge jump in power around 2000 when it had its makeover too. I've heard good things about the 2005+ Xterras though.

Funny, I thought the Scion Xb was the car they tried to sell the brand on; small, utilitarian, "unique" styling for a younger crowd. Weird to see it go.

And that Scion Smart car thing. WTF were they thinking?

And this derivative... The Aston Martin Cygnet

I never really understood the point of the Venza considering how crowded the Toyota SUV lineup is. The Highlander can hold more, the 4Runner and Sequoia are rugged, and the Rav4 at the time of its initial release had a V6 option. It was that stepchild in the selection for the mid-lifer that didn't want a full-on SUV, yet wanted the space and car-like design while getting a touch of Lexus RX luxury in the interior. Yet overall, it was spacious but a bit dry to drive overall.

I worked for Toyota all things considered, so maybe I'm a bit jaded about it, but still the Venza was one of those US-only creations that existed to fluff the Toyota selection.

Last I checked a lot of Toyotas have used 5x100.

I have a few of those in company fleet as well, its actually quite spacious inside and lots of room for ppl of varying sizes. Could really use a bit more power.

I'm gonna guess the new Scion iM is the replacement for the xB. Their iM concept was pretty cool.

Spoiler!
