if its built in the 500 factories...:donotwant:

It weights more then the miata with out much more power but has more torque with the turbo charged engine. Curious to see performance figures, but more curious to hear the sound.

Nabatron 11-18-2015 08:34 AM

miatas engine is around 150hp if not mistaken

More power, more torque, and at lower revs.

Power
Fiat: 160 horsepower @ 5,500 rpm
Mazda: 155 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm

Torque
Fiat: 184 pound-feet @ 2,500 rpm
Mazda: 148 pound-feet @ 4,600 rpm

Power to Weight
Fiat: 15.2:1
Mazda: 15.0:1

umm... interesting but that face....

flagella 11-18-2015 08:38 AM

What exactly is the point of this other than the fact that it's an additional choice?

No improvement in power to weight ratio. I'm quite critical of ND's looks especially the rear-end, but this fiat just does not look good to me from any angle. Those silver/chrome accents are terrible, especially the windshield.

I'd choose naturally aspirated ND with lighter weight over this turbocharged heavier counterpart anyday.

twitchyzero 11-18-2015 09:08 AM

i like the taillights more than mx5's, but not the overhang...and the front is too chrysler-like

the MX5's rear aesthetics has started growing on me

wonder if they'll do an abarth version...drop in the motor from 4C? wishful thinking

vitaminG 11-18-2015 09:17 AM

An abarth version would be sweet. Good thing they went with Japanese engineering and Italian styling and not the other way around

The_AK 11-18-2015 09:56 AM

i for one prefer the styling of this over the miata (mx5), especially the front end

Liquid_o2 11-18-2015 09:59 AM

I like the side profile, has a very classic early 90's sports roadster look to it.

Same logic could be applied to the FRS/BRZ etc

The look is quite different. Some people are put off by the "too Japanese" look of the ND Miata. I'd say the front end of the Fiat looks quite good, especially the bigger headlights. The profile look is also a little more distinctive (on the Fiat).

The big improvement in torque and having it come on much earlier should also be very significant. The ND is already a champ in the low end / mid range torque department. I can't imagine how big that torque rush is gonna push you against the back of the seat in the Fiat.

Also, IIRC, the 1.4T has quite a bit of untapped potential in stock form. An upsized throttle body, a little more boost, and probably your usual IHE stuff will release a lot more newfound power / torque. The ND seems to respond quite well to ECU tunes as well, but I'm sure the gains will be much higher on the 1.4T.

The 1.4T seems to be one of Fiat's better engines, but still, I'd trust the Mazda mill over the Fiat mill any day of the week, especially if I am going to beat the crap out of the engine at the track.

[correction] Made a mistake with the MultiAir reference. From everything I've read so far, it doesn't seem like the MultiAir tech is applied to the Fiat 124 Sypder here. But the rest of the stuff should still be correct.

PLEASE sound like the Abarth! :sweetjesus:

Timpo 11-18-2015 11:54 AM

Thats UGLY.
Looks like Chrysler Sebring or Ford something...
That screams cheap American car like Pontiac Solstice.

How the hell is supposed to be an Italian car? Heck, MX-5 looks more Italian than that.

Here's a better example of light weight Italian sportscar.

Ya, it's pointless. Same shit with solstice/sky.

sonick 11-18-2015 04:21 PM

As Traum mentioned, the Fiat engine itself with way more torque at way lower RPM should make the driving characteristics quite different to the Miata. The Fiat also has a smaller rev range. This combo would probably be a more adept 'cruiser/tourer' than the Miata, that is more rev-happy (just extrapolating from the numbers alone).

Also, I think I read the suspension is tuned to be more sporty, rather than the softer set up of the MX5. Don't hold me to that, can't remember exactly where I read it.

This is definitely not analogous to FRS/BRZ or Solstice/Sky, which used the same engines with minor suspension changes.

tofu1413 11-18-2015 05:13 PM

awesome.

that motor is awesome, great for tuning.... easy 190whp with minor mods.

will be awesome fun in a miata based chassis.

It's reported that engine is shipped from Italy and final assembly is in Japan

dovo 11-18-2015 07:38 PM

as long as you get lucky on your car.. you will not have that many problems.
My fiat has been reliable. *knock on wood*.

my flash tuned abarth makes about 180whp, as per tuner's claim, and it is peppy.

supafamous 11-18-2015 07:56 PM

Is the extra weight due to more sound insulation (making it more of a cruiser) or the motor (leaving it noisy as heck)?

I think it's hideous but to each their own.

Timpo 11-18-2015 08:09 PM

oh yeah, very important question...is this going to be cheaper than the Miata?

!Aznboi128 11-18-2015 09:02 PM

quick video of the car rev. Doesn't match the abarth needs it's muffler's cut out
