went to sunpeaks on dec 26-29. Snow was awesome there and wasnt too crowded. The thought the higher lifts are a bit slow and they only had 2 fast chairs. The runs were pretty good though. I still prefer Big White over Sun peaks

During my stay there, sunpeak's water main broke so more than half of sun peaks didn't have water!!! OMFG. We couldn't shower, couldn't flush the toilet, gotta take a shit in a plastic bag and couldn't prepare food. It was terrible since we had 14 people in our apartment. We didn't have water for almost 2 days. We messaged our landlord asking for a small compensation and he sent us a cheque for a full refund even though it wasnt his fault. lol. We were quite surprised because we were expecting a couple hundred.

Goin up to Cypress tonight with a few buddies for a night session! A few fresh centimeters are good for me :)

Any one rent the "performance" boards from Cypress, Im thinking with a staff discount it can't be that bad to try it out

rageguy 01-05-2016 03:28 PM

I like their performance rental stuff, most of them are so new and not used. I rented the Salomon BBR 9.0 skis from them, liked it so much, talked to their floor supervisor and negotiated a cheap price for them.

Most likely going to Cypress tomorrow for their 2pm session :eek5x:

When things get crispy like this, I put on the skinny skis and go nordic.

Was up on Cypress last night, a little icy at some spots down the forks but overall it was alright. Lots of people at around 8pm when I got there, but quickly died down and the last few runs were great as it was pretty empty.

Might head up next thursday or friday morning.

need some help. i ain't got winter tires on my ford escape. If i got chains from Canadian Tire, is that ok?

i understand we have to get winter tires, but can i get by with chains if I don't have winter tires. I can't find anything about chains instead of winter tires (for non commercial vehicles)

Anyone know of any warehouse sales

320icar 01-12-2016 11:33 PM

Hey guys! Next Friday I have my first ski lesson up at whistler. Suggestions on what to wear? We're gonna rent gear since stuffing 4 friends into my focus AND gear wouldn't really work. I have my own goggles and stuff. Should I be wearing my leggings under the snow pants? Or is that way too hot. Also I assume a jacket that is pretty much waterproof.

Any general clothing tips would be appreciated

Hello, when i go up i usually wear my Under Armour base layer 4.0 top and bottom. My Burton AK pants and jacket is worn over my base layer and I'm good to go. Also depends how far up you go, up at the top can get pretty cold if you don't have the right gear.

Warm or cold, a good base layer is the key to regulating heat. Not just staying warm. It does more work to pull moisture like sweat away from the body.
Dry = comfortable.
Nothing is perfectly waterproof. If its raining, you are gonna get wet. Bring a mid day change of clothes for worst case scenario. That said, if its raining, I'm getting shitfaced at seppo's.

if the pants are insulated then i wouldnt bother, but if they're just a shell then yes wear the leggings.

what they ^ said. a good base layer is definitely a must, top and bottom. usually overtop that i just wear my boarding pants+jacket and i'm good. sometimes it does get chilly but the most i'll go is a light sweater overtop the base layer. and i'm talking -10 cold

i usually wear a balaclava as well, especially if its snowing. most worthwhile $30 you can spend imo

My only cat day in BC was at Big Red Cats in Rossland. It was epic. Terrain there is super steep and has tons of fun features to boost off of. They also separate groups into skill level so your not stuck waiting around for slower people in your group. The only downside to Rossland is its 8-10 hours one way depending on weather.

just had my lessons at whistler. was pretty quiet but computers were down, and all the staff in the rental room must have been on break because though we were there at 12:00, we didn't even have boots in the snow until 1:15. so we had our lessons cut short. (since last lift is ~3:15)

lucky for us, we picked it up extremely fast. we did a few runs on the bunny hill and went right up on the chair lift to the mid way. great instructor and great day. the wet snow from some rain i guess made it stickier? didn't get too much speed going but im just fine with that.

anyways, sick day. i wanted some salomon boots and got to try on whatever one, and suuuuper comfortable. think i'll wait til some end of season sales and pick up a set. already have ski's sitting new in my living room from months ago i got cheap.

aaaaaanyways. can't wait to go up again and slowly build that skill foundation

mikemhg 01-23-2016 11:08 AM

^Naw we went up last week, selection was pretty shit, the Skis were beat up rental stuff for the most part, prices weren't good AT all.

320icar 01-24-2016 06:22 PM

the only pic i got. couldn't imagine walking from the day lots to the base in frickin' snow boots.

are there any lockers around the base of whister that are not crazy expensive like $10 lol
