Standard dealership practice. He probably had no trade-in and wanted to buy it cash, no extras, and no add-ons. The dealer rather sell to those with a trade-in, who will lease/finance the car, and will accept a bunch of extras/add-ons.

Not defending the dealership, but this is what is most likely happening. He may never get his car.

Hybrids are the worst of both an EV and an ICE. You get the additional cost of an EV and the maintenance and gas of an ICE. If you're in for a penny, go in for a pound. Just get an EV.

may be tough since he wants an SUV and i think there are fewer options, but if he was OK with a sedan, he probably could just get a used EV right? seems to be more stock of those, but i guess it's a matter if you're OK with used or if the used price is reasonable?

While I don't necessarily agree that hybrids and PHEVs are the worst of both worlds (EV + ICE), in that particular example, I'd say a Model Y RWD or long range AWD would be a better option than the Rav4 Prime. There is really no point for him to keep the deposit there at all. The person has no hope of ever getting a car from OR Toyota, and he is even losing interest on his deposit. There is just no point.

Is it the orange and white one? if so, that is probably the press/demo vehicle that is currently on display at Vancouver VW.

They could get a VW id4 fairly quickly and a Model Y in a few months at the most.

Tesla Model Y's are ready for almost immediate delivery, one week from today's date at most.

58k USD base for the ID Buzz... damn lol, there goes my dream of owning one... I guess a decent equipped version gonna be 85K to 90K CAD out the door at our local dealerships...

Not terrible I guess, our top trim Ioniq 6 goes out the door at 72K (thats MSRP, no mark up with the 5K rebate already accounted for).

With brand new being so pricey. What's the used market like for someone buying used? Model S and Leafs are 10 years old now, have prices reached it's lowest and plateau'd? Average years before the battery needs replacing? Cost to replace battery?

My brother asked Nissan about replacing first gen Leaf batteries. It's around 10k for a replacement. Also, some folks are buying spare Leaf parts cars to salvage parts off of.

I'm reading on another forum that the 2nd ship docked, unloaded, and has left back recently. Maybe yours will come up soon.

For the 2018 and 2019 Tesla Model 3's, I believe they've hit the bottom of the barrel in terms of depreciation.

They go for about $33,000 to $37,000 roughly.

First Gen leafs pre face lift, greedy dealers are trying to sell them for $15,000. They should be under $12,000 and treated like a disposable car.

Model S I'm not too sure about

I recall seeing first-gen Leafs like $6-8k during covid and were treated like disposable cars.

Tesla offered me $33k for my 2018 model 3 lr rwd about 2 years ago. Canada drives ended up buying it from me for $49k about 2 weeks later.

friend of mine has an old leaf. got it for free off a family member. battery already shot. Can go less than 30 kms per charge without using any other accessories. Winter time, forget about using the heat lol. Honestly I would rather get a beater Civic or Corolla.

Given people's efforts with Prius and insights are you sure there's no aftermarket lithium options?

didn't expect such a decrease in sales over time for prius, wonder if it's due to more competition, entry of EV's or other factor

or because people are sick and tired of the dealership BS to prioritize selling the prius to trade-in's or stupid mark ups.

Regarding the Prius sales, those years also saw relatively low average gasoline prices (in the usa).

Saw this on facebook.

Our goal is to keep these great cars on the road as long as possible, here is an updated listing of our battery inventory.

We currently have an 86% 24 kWh an 83% 30 kWh and a 89% SOH 40 kWh pack available for installation in Langley at Precision Auto Service Ltd.
Electric Vehicle Maintenance - Precision Auto Service
For some reason we have had an abundance of battery packs become available and we can fit them to any 2011 and newer LEAF. LeafSpy reports and prices can be found in the comments.
All requests should go to scott@precisionautoservice.com
