With GM, Ford on board. Tesla charging stations will be open to all EV. So all the Tesla owners will have to wait in line like everyone else. lol.

Never going to buy a Tesla but please everyone else, go and buy one. The stock value is rising, that's the only Tesla thing I have ... . But once the rise of stock value from the Tesla pick up truck release levels out ... I'm probably jumping off the wagon.

Think it from another perspective, Tesla now can build crap ton more SCs.

Before GM and Ford jumping on board, they can only make feasibility estimation based on Tesla fleet. Now they can accommodate a lot more.

This would make a lot better on major routes during their respective peak season (which really is the only time SC have some severe lineup)

I guess ford and GM will change the location of the charging ports now.

Tesla has V4 super chargers testing in Europe which take care of charge port cable length. It just needs to slowly come out to all new builds. They also have 650kW max output vs V3 at 250kW max to account for (I assume) vehicles with 800v battery pack architecture.

It's not like the number of superchargers is just going to stop growing. They are going to be building even more of them now that they know Ford, GM and others will be coming on board. It's only a matter of time until everyone else adopts NACS for North America.

^^ True, but that won't come over night. You know how long it takes just to get some things done around here? It's a slow process.

Electric and Hybrid Car Thread

You can go here https://supercharge.info/map to see Supercharger updates on new locations whether they are in preliminary permit process, building, or completed. I’m amazed at how quick they are added. I knew the new T&T in Coquitlam near IKEA was going to create even more strain on that supercharger location which it has been getting busier and busier. But I just saw another 16 stall being built at the United Blvd Tim Hortons. The webpage says it should be operational in another 2 weeks. The forums said the plans started for that new location on May 29th.

Tesla has a great plug and play installation with their product to streamline. All they need is power.

Updated Polestar 2 looks promising. 515km on the single motor LR and goes from FWD to RWD. Pricing isn’t that much higher either.

Might go test drive one.

Just saw a Rivian R1S with demo plates. Are they doing test drives for non-reservation holders?

This is a pretty good comparison, I guess you will save even more given how much the gas price is

Fascinating ... as many have suggested, the savings on an EV (RAV4 Prime) is minimal, if any, due to high initial cost of purchase. If you can even get your hands on one before 2030!

I have a rav4 xse hybrid and a rav4 prime xse. Hands down the prime is way better the driving experience alone is worth the money. My prime has 2600 kms and still is 3/4 full tank of gas.

If you are only spending $177 per month on gas, an EV really doesn't make sense.

When I went from ICE to EV back in 2018, gas was $1.50/litre and i spent roughly $400/month on fuel. It was easy to make the math work on buying an EV for me as my car payment was about $500/month.

On the RAV4 Prime, $78/mo of fuel is a lot of post-EV driving knowing that a full charge is roughly 68km. Thats just over 2k km a month if you only used EV range every day.

My friend’s Model X (which is a much heavier car than a RAV4 Prime) that I use a quarter of the time drives about 20-25k/year and it costs on avg $40/mo to charge at home.

Gas prices do this every year in June due to the higher demand in the summer driving system.

It's really BS ... was just in AB and it was $1.49 for regular. OK, I get some taxes for road and all but > $0.60 cents difference per litre?

And the dominos continue to fall. Rivian is in NACS. Hyundai is considering it.

It'd be interesting to see when the first non-American brand would join.

Trying to purchase a 2nd car for our family but I'm planning to use my in-law's rebate.

Are there any risk or to transfer the registration owner from my in-laws to my name on the same day as the vehicle delivery as a 'gift'?

I just don't want to deal with the hassle of having the in-law over to deal with any changes to insurance or when I plan to sell in the future...

from what i've been told, your inlaws should keep the car under their name for about a year, then transfer to your partner as that would be immediate family so its tax free.
government might claw back your rebate as they might see it as a flip.

Next generation VW Tiguan will have a PHEV model boasting 100km on EV range.
