Apparently it's coz of the number of accidents Teslas are usually involved in, but also difficulty in getting parts, and also that if the frames or foundational battery structures are damaged it's essentially a write-off immediately.

For reference, 23 RAV4 Prime, 2 mil liability, $300 Collision, and $300 Comprehensive came just over $3000 for the entire year 23-24. My 22 Prius Prime was supposed to be $2800.

Edit, we drive over 15km for work

Good to know about the rate of insurance on Teslas ... is that premium on Teslas only or generally on all EV's?

For reference, my Soul EV is about $2000 / year. >15km, $300 deductible / $3M liability, garaged.

The Model 3 Dual Motor I had in 2019 was about $2400 / year (same coverage), but this was before ICBC caught on how expensive these are to repair.

It's just not evs man it's all new cars are expensive with their led laser projector headlights, labour and wage isn't going down either. Mega grills, diffusers, led lighting in bumpers.

I dont think Teslas get into more collisions than the average car.

Wonder if the Tesla's self drive or whatever level they have has something to do with it. Tesla seem to be the only vehicle where I spot drivers just not paying attention to traffic and all and just staring down at their phones in the middle of traffic.

2021 Model 3 Dual Motor insured for full business use. $2504.16 per year with icbc and stratford. 5 years ago I was paying $2121.60/year on a 2014 Hyundai Sonata and up until this year, my insurance was less than the Sonata because the 3rd party insurers have decided to increase their EV rates.

Looks like the Volvo EX30 will start at $53,700 in Canada. Pricing seems reasonable next to similarly-sized Kona/Soul EVs priced in the mid-40s before rebates.

https://www.media.volvocars.com/ca/e...ut-in-montreal

Quote:
Starting from $53,700.00, the MY25 Volvo EX30 makes for an appealing entry into life with a fully-electric Volvo vehicle. Priced to qualify for Federal and relevant provincial EV incentives, customers can get into this fully electric premium SUV for around the same price as an internal combustion engine SUV.

^ whao, that's actually pretty good and Volvo... has the name Volvo behind it lol.

As far as insurance goes, it is a Tesla thing, a lot of my Kona EV / Ioniq customers told me that 1 big factor in buying the Hyundai as it was significantly cheaper insurance wise compared to the model 3. (granted they probably just compared ICBC to ICBC, it would be much closer if they knew about third party comprehensive like BCAA etc etc)

The good news is, it's not prevalent enough for me to find out.

But I do know 1 client that had to replace his plug on the Kona EV (on the car, not the charger), it was $1,100 for the full plug + labor, took about a week to get in and installed.

I have no reference from other brands, so I am not sure if that is expensive or cheap.

A lot cheaper compared to when I got mines in 2019

I was about $58,000 out the door, only option was color.
