I found it more spacious than the RAV4 and I liked the interior layout better. Also better use of soft touch, etc. Talking about the newest gen. The hybrid is pretty nice in terms of pick up but not as fast as the prime, obv.

The RX my dad had / the wife currently has seems infinitely more spacious and comfortable.

After owning that CRV for 3 years it made me swear off CRVs all together
You chose one of the worst gens of CR-V when Honda was still deep in the throes of post 2008 recession cost cutting. The dark days of Honda.

Their best markets with the most favourable brand reputation are really just Japan and the US. (Although I think they are also popular in the Guangdong and Hubei provinces in China.)

The car really would have made more sense here in N.America.
This could be due to factors such as:
  • Available resources to support a North American launch (i.e. they can't source enough batteries)
  • Honda testing the model in a smaller market to gather consumer feedback and address any deficiencies before a broader launch
  • Pricing challenges next to models like the Rav4 prime due to economies of scale

I also can see Honda being more conservative in changing up a cash-cow model like the CR-V - I don't think they want the model's reputation to be jeopardized without a good degree of confidence that the car will sell.

Kia EV9 prices in Canada, same as a Model Y. Amazing value unless you love elon musk and think full self driving is coming any day now.

I don't get the base 215hp model - why would anyone buy that compared to the 379hp model for $8k more? 215hp for a 5000lb car, even with instant electric torque seems wholly inadequate.

hoenstly i think it will sell big if Kia can build enough.

People like my wife and my parents don't care how fast it accelerates, but they will like the 3 row seating and the extra space... =D

I think the base model is a great buy - it's a lot more car within $10k of a loaded Kona / Soul EV which are tiny in comparison. I don't need something this size to accelerate fast carrying a family, and the instant torque will help make the car feel responsive enough in most situations.

Borderline dangerous. Imagine doing a left turn and there's a car coming. Can't stop in time due to 5000lb. Can't get out of the way either due to 215hp. Maybe just fling open the door and bail, at that point.

all these cars are so damn heavy right now. If you run into a 2200lb mid 90's or 2000 car with your 5000lb+ monster, you are gonna absolutely cream the lighter car. No impact protection will save whoever is in that thing.

As a former owner of late 80's to early 90's honda shitboxes, those cars were death traps. They were super light with next to no thought on safety compared to what you buy these days (ev or otherwise).

I owned a 1988 Honda CRX si and it weight approximately 1800 lbs according to the internets. The 2023 civic would crush that CRX as it comes in at roughly 3000 lbs. The Tesla model 3 is 3850-4000 lbs. EV Trucks are crazy heavy but it's important to remember that the batteries are usually in the frame of the vehicle which is at the lowest point in the vehicles body, once the rednecks get over their small dicks and start buying the ev trucks and lifting them is where the trucks will turn into a cruise missile when they get in an accident.

My 2019 Model 3 just throw at me the BMS_a066 code. Called Tesla Hong Kong and they are ordering the HV battery for me.

pretty bad experience with Tesla.
- Repainted some body panels 4 times
- Replaced their 12v twice already
- Dead vfront computers
- now the HV battery

how much would the high voltage battery be out of pocket? or those vfront computers?

I asked those taxi drivers in hong kong how come they dont use tesla's and they all just laughed. Said it was garbage cars and they'll stick to their 1999 toyota crown's with over a 1 million km's on the odo.

I recently read a news article saying how the average age of HK taxi drivers is something in the 60+ range, and with a large increase in licence holders being in their 80's compared to a few years before. These old timers are not going to shift away from the tried and true stuff that has served them well for the last 20+ years.

Incidentally, I remember watching a short news clip a few years ago of how the HKSAR gov was pushing for BYD EV taxis, and none of the interviewed taxi drivers who were driving those BYD EV taxis had anything good to say about them LOL~ As I recall, access to charging was their biggest complain, but there were other issues too.

^its so true. All the drivers i had in these 2 weeks were ah bak's. Like literally 75+ and yet they all drove like they were 20 year olds.

Weird how they put it into neutral at every stop and pull the ebrake. I asked the ah bak why they do that, they said it saves gas.

I was in one of these BYD EV taxis in Shenzhen and the drivers I spoke to had the same complaint. They said charging times eat into their operating times, resulting in less overall income per shift compared to their Santana days. But they just accept it since all taxi drivers are in the same boat and it's national policy to go EV for the taxi fleet.

I should have visited a BYD showroom. Would be interesting to see how far Chinese EVs have come vs something like a Tesla.

Also that Lucid air sapphire is apparently the best handling car in the world according to Jason camisa

Chinese automakers have come a long way in the past decade. One of my mom's friend has a Nio ES8 in her Hangzhou home and gushes about it.

I also had a chance to check out a few Xpengs earlier this year. In a showroom setting, the fit and finish rivals sub-luxury brands like Volvo. Everything is stylish and classy - nothing like whatever the Germans are smoking up in their design studios.
