VW ID7 - Was surprisingly nice inside out. Proportions are weird and has a generic look. Completely overshadowed by the ID Buzz next to it.

Hyundai would have covered up to 160,000kms, car is a 2018 model at 190,000km when the battery failed. Phev not even a full electric and they want 15k for just the battery.:pokerface:

Toyota Canada's battery warranty lasts for 10 years/240k kms. Plus, the NiMH batteries are pretty proven by now, so I suspect its a non-issue. Hyundai/Kia's tend to have more fashionable and stylish lower cost cars, but the quality just doesn't seem to be there (though there are some exceptions).

Was the Buzz the 3-row version?

How were the 3rd row seats in that and the EV9? And how was accessing the 3rd row, any particular annoyances of note?

I can't understand why Toyota can't do an EV Sienna TRD Pro. They do a hybrid, they do a lifted Woodlands trim, they're almost there!!

I’m on my way to Montreal this morning and I got in this 2017 Prius V taxi. The guy showed me his odo and it is at 999,999 and it can’t go any higher. I asked him if he needed to replace anything and he said just brakes every 300,000km. Even the hybrid battery is original. He said the older Priuses they need to replace hybrid battery at 300-500,000km but the newer ones can last a million plus.

He then proceeded to tell me he has a tattoo of Toyota on his shoulder.

I’m like yeah I totally identify with that. No wonder they drive these things around. Even with a million KMs on it, it still felt pretty tight and no worse for wear than anything else from 2017.

I cant comment on Hyundai in general, but my client swapped his 2021 Kona EV into a 2023 Kona EV earlier this year.

Main motivation were
- heated rear seats
- getting out of the car while the car still worked 100% and exhibiting 0 problems

He had 197,000 KM on his original Kona EV, and he said all he did was tires + windshield wiper fluids + 1 set of wipers, still on original brakes with more than 50% pads remaining.

So, who knows, could be like my Tesla. I did a fair bit of research and as far as I know, I have the worse model 3 ownership experience within 20 owners of 3 and Ys within my circle of friends lololol hahahaha (still looking for a 3 performance though!)

thats the thing about the toyota Hybrid stuff. So common amongst taxis now that there are plenty of independent sources that will fix the batteries or knows those cars better even better than Toyota does.

Have to applaud the independent surrey garages this time - they have very affordable solutions on fixing those Toyota Batteries and they do it quick too.

Dude told me and lo cost garage repair does their fleet work including hybrid battery cell replacement.

another data point is that my mom just picked up her Prius XLE AWD (non-prime) after putting in her deposit about a month ago.

Was told initially it could take up to 2- 3 years wait when she ordered, but I guess someone cancelled their order and they asked if she wanted it instead.

I didn't get a chance to go inside the Buzz's 3rd row - it was the most popular vehicle at the show and everyone and their kids were crowding it. I'm over 6ft and the 3rd row didn't look particularly spacious for someone my size (I also don't want to be trapped back there with the volume of people getting in/out and playing around with seat adjustments). Headroom and leg room look good, but shoulder room can be tight if you're larger / built because the vehicle's narrower than American minivans. I would say the space is better than a midsize SUV 3rd-row but not as roomy as a Sienna / Odyssey / Caravan. The seats in the other two rows were nothing to write home about - they had basic adjustments and didn't come across as uncomfortable in my short time with it.

I had more seat time with the EV9 because Kia was smart enough to bring 3 units for people to sit in. The seats are more comfortable than the Buzz and the cabin is wider and more airy. The interior is more premium overall (Buzz had a lot of hard plastics), though it's not fair to compare the two because these two cars belong to different segments.

Seriously a PHEV Sienna with a TX500h+ would do the bomb. I'll even settle with a PHEV Sienna using RAV4 Prime's powertrain.

Sounds on par from my chats with cab drivers - those Prius batteries really do last a long time. Wonder what they'll switch to once the V's succumb to old age - maybe a Crown Signia??

Taxi dude said the new Prius isn’t that great for taxi service because it’s smaller than the V.
He says most of these dudes are trying to get their hands on a rav4 hybrid or a sienna hybrid.

I asked him about Tesla model 3 and he says there’s been a few of them in Vancouver but they all end up switching back because 1 can only drive one shift (10-12h) and 2, when their batteries do go, it’s way way more expensive to replace. He said the yellow cab guys all found it really poor range in the winter time.

I wonder what happened to taxi drivers? I thought they said Ubers will kill them, but they seem to be doing fine. Ubers uses anything that runs, Kia, Hyundai, Accord, Tesla, Lexus
