Of my tech worker friends, 1 bought a CX5 Turbo AWD and the other 20 that I helped shop said hybrid or bust and ended up with a RAV4 HEV/Model Y.
I know 5 guys who shipped a RAV4 Prime from the east coast and didn't even consider CX5.

How are these techies okay waiting for a RAv4, let alone a hybrid? Aren't the waitlists like 12+ months out?

That is so dumb. If you're setting up KPIs that push that kind of bad behavior then you have a serious issue on your hands.

I remember seeing some crazy stuff at an aerospace company I worked for in the UK where they'd spend days cannibalizing landing gear assemblies and life support systems just to ship some units a day earlier all because it would help with those quarter's number. That was short sighted, but it at least made the sales numbers look better!

Shifting sales like that is pretty common at the dealership level if their monthly targets are met. Dealerships want to beat their targets, but not too much because it establishes a new expectation from the OEM to beat which may not be attainable.

Holding inventory at the regional level to control expectations for global HQ is a new one though. The market isn't exactly hot right now so hanging onto inventory when buyers are out there waiting to complete the sale helps no one but the regional manager's performance.

Going back on topic, this looks pretty sick:

WOW. There are 4 flavors of Crowns and they picked the lifted sedan and frumpy SUV over THIS version to bring to NA?!

More info:

We only get two of the four Crown models here in the United States – the raised sedan and the upcoming Signia SUV. In Japan, there's also a traditional sedan without the lift kit, and this smaller crossover, the Crown Sport. That model is now getting a charging port and a more potent powertrain, but still won't be coming to the U.S.

Smaller than the Crown Signia, the JDM-spec Crown Sport looks like Japan's Ferrari Purosangue, especially in red paint. Sadly, it doesn't have a V12, but it's still pretty powerful by Toyota standards. With a 2.5-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor, it has a combined output of 302 horsepower delivered to all four wheels.

Since this is a plug-in hybrid, lithium-ion battery with enough juice for a pure electric range of 56 miles (90 kilometers).

...

the vehicle will be able to cover more than 746 miles (1,200 kilometers).

...

adaptive suspension with modified shock absorbers.

...

bidirectional charging as the 1,500W (AC 100V) external power supply function might come in handy in an emergency.

...

The Crown Sport PHEV costs 7,650,000 yen (about $52,900) and Toyota expects to move about 300 units each month.

Squinting at that packaging layout, it looks like they're starting to put the battery pack under the floor. Finally they've taken their heads out of their asses and stopped sticking batteries in the trunk where it takes away from cargo space.

Man, what a great car. To 68style's point, it's would've been a serious contender to the Macan.

I mean, I don't think it's a serious contender vs the Macan for any reason save aesthetics, but it does have that similar visual appeal.

It's got some passion in it... the Crown we have here looks like an obese middle aged woman that complains to airlines that their seats are too small.

I wonder why they don't design it as a rex like the volt. Like no longer connect the motor to the wheels. We have big enough batteries and strong enough EV motors. Just a tiny motor to charge, rather than the whole ice drive train in there. Wouldn't that make a lot more usable space.

We can talk about 911s in here now.

Quote:
The revised Porsche 911, out early next summer as a 2025 model, will boast restyled front and rear ends, an updated cockpit, and a few detail changes including 48-volt hybrid systems for the engine lineup. But in terms of headline breakthrough material for this 992.2 model, nothing beats the new T-HEV hybrid system coming a bit later which will move the iconic sports car a big step closer towards electrification. While Porsche has not confirmed any details on the hybrid yet, two dealers we spoke to independently acknowledged the project's existence, but claimed that deliveries would not begin before calendar-year 2025.

I was pretty excited about Chevy Blazer - seemed like stylish alternative to Model Y but initial quality seems incredibly troublesome.
