The Y drive experience is just better. And cost way less to operate. That’s the simple rationale for them.

When waiting their kids at hockey practice, they can stay inside the car and watch Netflix. There’s no such option in the P without running the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

And a round trip to Kamloop is about 200 in gas whereas the Tesla is less than 30 as they’d fill up at their hotel. Yes, they can afford the gas. But why waste it when there’s no need?

People talk shit about how the drive in Tesla is rough or the build quality is not good enough or whatever. My suggestion is, actually get one and let’s talk again in a few years. My 3 is 5yrs old. Everything inside, including the seat still looks pretty much like the day I got it. It’s no leather. But I think it’s something better than leather. In my BMW, Honda, Lexus and even my dad Bentley, I remember by the time I feel like I should trade it in, the seat would look worn, and clusters/panels dated. And that’s one of the reasons I changed cars back then. Because I just felt they were aging, maintenance was going up huge and might as well just replace it before anything major happens.

People in my circle, there are Porsche owners, Ferrari owners, Lamborghini , McLaren and Rolls owners. They now all daily with a Tesla and many have their second Tesla already.

And a lot of “car enthusiasts” say “oh, Tesla is one trick pony” and I agree. All it got is crazy acceleration. But you should see the face of the dude in a Ferrari the other day where no matter what he did, he could not overtake my plaid because as soon as he got close, I’d just floor the pedal the leaves him in the dust again. It’s a trick that matters in daily driving. How often do you get to corner at 100km/h? I can do quick acceleration any day of the week.

Save 200 in gas and let your Porsche you don't need rot in your driveway

How am I still alive with all that carbon monoxide I've been huffing all these years, I like to run a hose from my exhaust to my window when I turn on the Netflix it's a trip

ehh my model Y vegan leather is pretty shitty especially the steering wheel, plenty of evidence online of them flaking even on model x/s. And a model Y cant do a round trip to kamloops in the winter unless you enjoy supercharging in merritt and hope with the long line ups while a cayenne can do it in one tank.

Can't argue with the Netflix bit. Two trick pony?

I think the general consensus is the interior just isn't there. Most people from what I hear don't like the vegan stuff but I understand it's subjective. I have an extra problem most don't have, I have a big ass and the 3/Y seats simply don't fit me, it digs into the side of my ass and it hurts/numbs after a long drive.

I've only recently become a BMW driver (5 years) and I'm not seeing wear like you said. Granted the X3 has taken a huge beating despite being 4.5 years old because my wife can be a bit of a slob with cars and it's the main schoolbus.

The Ferrari driver bit doesn't quite work because my experience is, most Ferrari drivers can't actually even use 50% of their car's capabilities.

Actually I find the Model 3 to be some what rough around the edges.

In terms of the ride, it's pretty rough. The suspension is pretty boomy and it doesn't quite absorb the bumps well.

Interior wise, it's a Tesla lol, nothing to write about, it's very minimalist and straight forward to work with. So far overall it's holding up okay

I disagree with the BMW portion, I had a 2015 BMW X1 and it held up pretty fine. Sure it looked a bit dated on the outside and inside, but it was nice to appreciate the analog aspect of it. The only reason why I sold it because I was involved in a big accident with it.

Then I replaced it with a Y.

Lots of big improvements compared to my 3. Slightly softer suspension, interior is well insulated, dual pane windows front and rear. Only had it for a couple of months so far, so only time will tell to see how it will hold up.

When you guys say the Tesla 3/Y ride rough, are you saying it's stiff like it is with a CTR or a Focus RS? And you're saying you don't want it to be so sporty?

It's just overly harsh for what it is. But this is coming from 21 and older 3 y, I haven't driven the newer ones with revised suspensions. Feels like it's on coilovers on stock height. You just feel all the road imperfections and bumps. Which I don't want in a stock daily car or suv.

Just buy a cheap tablet so you don't have to watch it at a weird angle. Or just turn the ignition to accessory like every car I've ever owned and use the car with the engine off...

This pretty much sums it up

With my Y, it's almost night and day difference compared to my 3 in terms of suspension. The Y feels more compliant on the road, better absorption on bumps. I didn't bother opting the 20 inch wheels as I was leaning towards more comfort.

I’m not such a baller I can choose between a turbo Cayanne and a Tesla, but last summer drove our peasant G37 from Vancouver to Penticton and then the following day drove our friends 2021 3 from Penticton to Osoyoos. For a car not known for its handling nor amazing build quality, our 10+ year older G37 felt so much more refined and comfortable.

The back seats of a 3 might as well be fabric bench seat.

As I’ve said before, I feel like people who try to justify EV’s for long road trips aren’t “car people” but instead people who think by driving a Tesla you can just turn your brain off and let the car do the work, when for me, I’m actually thinking about it far more because even between Penticton and Osoyoos we had to consider where we were going to charge before going home

I think we are just comparing it to the wrong cars.

If I was in a position to get a Cayenne, hell, even a Macan, it will be P car all day long. Lol, don't hate, my wife's money no object dream car is the Taycan in that Rosegold finish with white interior lolol... I was like... Yes, buy the P car that is most unlike the P car... sure... whatever floats her boat~

For me, choosing the 3 was the "logical" choice at the time, I needed a car.

I was stuck choosing new (family, kids, rather pay more knowing something will work VS saving money but living with the stress that wife will call me in the middle of my day saying smth smth is wrong and needs to be checked out)

I was choosing between a
Accord Touring
Camry XSE V6 TRD (wanted Hybrid and was told if I wasn't on their list already... yea...)
Golf GTI Performance DSG (actually my top choice)
Model 3

Wife went to look at all 4, she wanted to do Tesla, so I was like sure, it was gonna be 95% her driving anyways.

And when we did the 5 year ownership cost, the Model 3 did inch ahead, the readily avail + ease of transaction (ie no haggling or going to 7 different dealers to compare the 7 different price offers) only made things easier....

If I was in a position to do a $100K ish out the door wife daily, no way the tesla will even be considered. At that point... Volvo V60 PHEV all day everyday....

and if we move to $150K out the door, for all the hate on the looks, M3 lolol

and if we move another bracket up towards 200K out the door, can you get new RS6 Avant at 200K out the door?

I would say Tesla is competitive at the 50K to 70K out the door price point, and that is only if you have someone that can get the full $9K rebate, otherwise there are better cars out there, but they wont be 70K out the door though (strictly new cars, used cars is another universe all in itself)~

i dunno if a lot of people that can afford teslas get the full rebate, didn't they change the provincial one based on income, so that most ppl that can afford one can only get the fed one for $5k?

are used model 3's for $30k a thing? how many kms do those have?

I've had to ride in a lot of Model 3s lately due to travel (Uber) and they feel like cheap economy cars in the back. Sure, it's pretty roomy but it's a bit too close to riding in a bus for what is often seen by people as a "luxury" car. I'd much rather ride in the back of a Civic Touring than a 3 ($20k less before taxes and gas and I don't qualify for the provincial tax credit).

As long as one person on the bill of sale qualifies for the full BC rebate, the EV or PHEV will receive the full rebate.

Someone suggested my wife and I to rent a luxury car for our wedding. I asked what they had in mind. They said, "Tesla."

Never have I ever bit my tongue so hard.

Does anyone do aftermarket suspension for Teslas? I.e. softer springs / dampers.

Seems like there's a sizeable customer base that would pay to prioritize comfort over handling.

they fixed it for late 2022? Model Y and for highland Model 3.
Also gave em thicker glass.

But then they took away the parking sensors.
For city mans like me who hella parellel park, it's a deal breaker.

There's a bunch of companies that do aftermarket suspension for teslas, springs, coilovers, dampers, even lift kits for the Model 3 and Y lol
https://www.mountainpassperformance....sla-model-3-y/

Just like many others One of the first things I've noticed when i got my car was the noisy and rough suspension.

I've been using eibach spring's since my 3 was 5 months old, they've been on my car over 2 years now. Rides softer than stock, no more clunks over bumps, and sits lower obviously.. The factory shocks still ride quite well.

Also gave em thicker glass.

But then they took away the parking sensors.
For city mans like me who hella parellel park, it's a deal breaker.
But there're still fwd/reverse cameras right? Isn't that enough to park with?

I just don't know if I could ever accept buttons in place of turn stalks. That just seems super wrong lol!

You don't get a front one ....... which is super problematic.

I've been driving rental BMW 3/5/X5/6, the 360 camera and automated parallel parking work really well.
