I applaud Tesla and all the China evs that actually do it, vinfast. Even all the legacy manufacturers are all walking back on evs right now cuz it's too hard and they are losing shit tons of money and can't compete.

You forgot Dyson.

The problem that I see with Apple making cars is that they cannot find a manufacturing partner competent enough and I doubt Apple want to go into car manufacturing themselves, especially when they haven't proven their concept would work yet.

A Tesla Gigafactory is 5B a pop. And it'd burn through billions a year. If they cannot achieve full capacity, it'd be a very expensive investment. Yes, Apple can certainly afford it. But it's not the best use of their funds. I knew Project Titan was in trouble after all the reports that carmakers were not interested in going with Apple to make cars for them.

The only partner Apple could logically work with would be for them to ask Tesla to make their cars. But first Tesla is not offering such service and second, even if Tesla wanted to, their production lines are highly optimized. Unless they design a car using Tesla's 3/Y, S/X or CT platform, it's unlikely Tesla would be able to do anything efficiently either.

Tesla Roadster set to unveil at the end of this year.

68style 02-28-2024 07:16 AM

Yah right... unveiled again you mean, it was already unveiled before... production date 2028 if they're lucky

I am no fan of SUV's, but they need a SUV, not a sports car and no the Model Y does not count. Sedans and coupes are low marketplace holds nowadays.

Badhobz 02-28-2024 07:43 AM

they have 2 SUV's with the X and the Y. The model Y is their best seller. What do you define as an SUV? body on frame?

68style 02-28-2024 07:51 AM

Is the Y not more of a crossover? It's just an inflated Model 3. The X is ancient now and basically a minivan.

I mean by something with some ground clearance and a bit of ruggedness, even if it's just aesthetic ruggedness in a practical sense.

freakshow 02-28-2024 08:31 AM

The Y is as much of an SUV as an X4, so depends on what you call that.
The X is definitely an SUV.. not a minivan. And was released 3 years after the S, so I wouldn't expect a refresh before the S

noclue 02-28-2024 10:10 AM

I don't understand how dealers still price used model X/Y more than new. Sure you save on luxury tax/PST but they price it so high you might as well buy new.

JDMDreams 02-28-2024 10:40 AM

Buddy Guy doesn't have credit to finance at Tesla

Get a Rivian if you want ground clearance and “ruggedness”.

68style 02-28-2024 11:07 AM

Hey I am not in a market for a Tesla nor would them having something that gave off SUV vibes make me buy one, I'm just saying they're missing a big consumer base. Cybertruck kinda meets it... if they can produce them in anything even remotely close to the numbers they claimed they could (which I don't believe they ever will).

Rivian is likely dead why would anyone buy one at this point?

Go ask non-car people what the difference is between a Model 3 and a Model Y? "Is the Y the more bulbous one / one that looks like an inflated 3?" is the answer I most commonly hear whenever the topic comes up amongst women in particular. Nobody thinks of the X anymore because it's too expensive and old. I can't even think of the last time I saw one and I live in Tesla HQ Richmond so that's saying something.

They need to at least change up their styling or something, the general public isn't differentiating their products well.

But, hey, what do I know? Armchair CEO lol

underscore 02-28-2024 12:10 PM

I assumed it was intentional that all Teslas look like the same smooth blob in various heights. For a lot of people having others know you have a Tesla is the most important part of having one.

JDMDreams 02-28-2024 12:35 PM

What else are you gonna buy a f150 EV that they stopped production on :joy: everyone shits on Tesla until they see the competition

68style 02-28-2024 12:48 PM

Oh believe me, I shit on other brands of electric cars way harder than Tesla.

I don't like electric cars for myself personally, but anytime people ask about it or their lifestyle seems to suit it, I always tell them if they absolutely must buy an EV or have their heart set on it, that Tesla should be the only real consideration at this point in time.

The worst are the dumb hicks I met in Alberta who associate EV’s as being a liberal.

JDMDreams 02-28-2024 01:46 PM

Yea not sure what's going on with Alberta, I read some headlines they are banning wind mills?:suspicious: fine by me, as long as I get cheap gas and electricity

Inbreeding at its finest.

Traum 02-28-2024 01:56 PM

The latest dumb shxt beyond comprehension from Alberta is their opting out of the federal pharmacare program. Like seriously WTF?!

I swear Danielle Smith is just actively looking for every possible opportunity to have a spat with the federal gov, esp since it is the Turb/Liberal gov now.

That's more like Doug Ford, but at least I wouldn't call him "vile". Whereas with Smith, I would totally call her "vile".

whitev70r 02-28-2024 02:45 PM

What about the Tesla Model 2 ... small commuter EV? Is that in the works?

Too bad something like this is unlikely to make its way here. I looked at the larger Seal and Dolphin and they give its legacy competitors something to be afraid of.

JDMDreams 02-28-2024 05:19 PM

Anyone know why we don't have China EV? They already have them in Europe and pretty much rest of the world, Australia?

tegra7 02-28-2024 06:01 PM

High import tariff.

dark0821 02-28-2024 08:44 PM

But also a huge commitment on the manufacture.....

Look at how many koenigsegg has to be sacraficed for crash testing.

I do wish they can come over though, as that will disrupt the market to make transportation more affordable
