I opened a 3-pack today. Turns out the bags are swimming in a pool of leaked milk.

Legacy... tradition... olde Canada...

Good thing we got this one at Costco .

Apparently it has to do with Canada converting to the metric system. Milk companies weren't legally allowed to sell 1 gallon (3.79L) jugs as "close enough", and they couldn't change the glass containers. But they had plastic 1-quart bags which they could upsize to 1.3L, and three of those made 4L.

Eventually the technology became available to quit with the shenanigans and everybody else stopped, but Ontario provincial law forced the madness of bagged milk to continue on.

As of 2018 apparently the regulation has been amended but things haven't changed lol.

Fast forward to 2024, I wonder which format generates less waste? A 4L jug or a 4L bag of milk?

I wouldn't say leaky milk bags were a common occurrence, but it was certainly a common enough occurrence. So if you combine the waste and mess created by bagged milk, I'm sure they result in a higher "loss" compared to jugs.

i think the 4L jug has a much higher chance of being recycled where a soft plastic bag is most likely going in to the trash

milk bags require less energy and water, and produce less greenhouse gases, than jugs or cartons. This is mainly because milk bags weigh only 20 to 30 per cent as much as the jugs or cartons for the same volume. The differences are substantial.

And then the production of the hard plastic jugs you stick those bags into which never biodegrade and are not recyclable.

If milk came in bags here and I had to fuck around with that I probably wouldn’t even buy milk. Only time I really use it is for lattes

I, for one, won't be buying another Tesla. I hope that I can drive mine for at least another 4-5 years and then look at getting a R2S or whatever other vehicle of the day that I like a lot.

^why ? I thought it’s basically the best EV in the market right now.

All the build quality side, the software and charging system is still best in class.

Without a doubt, Tesla's software and charging system are the best in class. And then when you all the mass production -- i.e. actual high volume models, instead of just low production models like Lucid Air or Rivian whatever -- they also have the best drivetrain as well.

On the other hand, the question that I keep asking myself is -- when would the competition be "good enough" to lure buyers away from Tesla? I've always believed that none of the other manufacturers have to make an EV that is better than Tesla -- they just have to make something that as an overall package, is more enticing to purchase than Tesla is. For example, if the Chevy Bolt is only a $20k EV, that would definitely make it a better purchase than a TM3 to me, spontaneous fire risks be damned.

There are a lot of qualities in Teslas that impress me. But at the same time, there are also a lot of qualities in Teslas that irk me, enough so that I still can't bring myself to purchase one even though one side of me really want to. So when another manufacturer can make something that's "good enough", I'd be very happy to entirely give up on Tesla lol~

To be honest the product must be pretty compelling, otherwise all the ah mo's and ah bak's who drive these things must be losing their minds. No way thats happening as i see them literally everywhere.

I too would have one if... 1) my camry ever breaks 2) can charge without tripping over the damn cord 3) need more garage space as it'll have to be parked outside (which im worried about the leaks as apparently they leak quite often into the trunk)

Also fire... it'll catch fire on the off chance...

Ah certainly, but you've tripped over the charging cord yes? Like, literally can't charge it without tripping and going flying?

I’m so damn stupid that I’ve driven away with the trickle charger still attached to the car before. Ripped the thing out of the wall, dragged it behind me like a just married string of cans, all the way to Steveston.

I’m not a big fan of cords being attached to moving objects.

so in that regard, EVs are safer than gas cars!!

I've attempted to drive away with a charger cable plugged into an EV so many times. It's for sure into the double digits. But the software always blocks you from actually moving until you've:
-unplugged the cable
-closed the charger door (which I've also left open many times)

Afaik, gas cars aren't doing this level of idiot-proofing. Or maybe I just haven't owned a new enough gas car to know if they do now.

^ I wonder if that's why more and more gas stations are removing that tab where you can click and the gas nozzle keeps on filling. If you have to manually hold it down, then you're not going to drive away with it stuck to your car.

Yea, EVs wont let you do that (driving away with the charger attached).

That is such a flex lolol, it means you have way too many cars and need trickle charger to keep them topped up because you dont drive them enough hahaha.

I asipire to be in that position LOOOL

Jokes aside, I am actually in the other camp, my Tesla experience, despite all those blunders was still a positive one, enough so that I am trying to figure out a way to upgrade to a Performance model without losing toooooooo much in my base model 3 lolol

It's also because people would not put the hose in properly, or trip over them and pull it out.

Question - I have a friend who's looking to buy a Tesla Model Y, 2021 Long Range with 30,000km on it from a cousin. Condition is quite good but not 'like new'. What's a fair price to offer? Somewhere between trade-in and private sale I would imagine.. but what would that be?

Probably 30-35k ? Seems fair to me.

The problem is the new ones are so damn cheap per month it makes it hard to recommend buying a used one

It's a cousin, trade in value or less and be done with it. Do you really need to squeeze every last bit out of family?
