Do they even bother with the leaf? Like how can you even compete. I drove a leaf before model 3 and I was like wtf is this. I think they tried too hard to make it feel like a regular car, and there's no wow factor. Then there's the huge issue with the battery. How can there be no improvements in the last 20 years. Sounds like they are doing a Subaru and keeping 300hp, 200hp from 25 years ago.

Super smart move though, legacies automakers like Hyundai might react, but won't be able to react this fast. Which means once the new rule takes affect, Tesla will once again pretty much have a monopoly on the EV game till the rest catches up which could take months.
Like as bad as a model 3 is... no one is gonna buy a Nissan Leaf with 300KM range over the model 3.
Like our Kona EV Ultimate is only $1,199 over the limit. Which for all things considered $1,200 bucks isn't the end of the world. They would be smart to drop it to be one of the few vehicles that can compete with the Model 3 in terms of feature set and range. But we don't know if Hyundai will drop the MSRP (BC is such a small market in the grand scheme of things) and if they do, how long will it take, how many meetings will it take to get it on the ground | Could the local dealership discount the car 1199 themselves to stay competitive?
The public might not like the threshold for rebate being dropped, but one might see it as the government helping the public, by manipulating elon into dropping the price, which then potentially trickles down the other manufacturers dropping their prices to try and stay competitive with tesla.
How are you RS ballers even concerned about rebates, don't you earn too much to receive rebates? |

RS ballers are so baller that their wives don't need to work.
$0 personal income = insta-qualify for the full $9k rebate Quote:

Their latest 3rd gen product is the Ariya, and according to a friend who has one, it is much better than the Leaf.

How are you RS ballers even concerned about rebates, don't you earn too much to receive rebates? | TBH, I'd rather they just get rid of the rebates altogether and then the manufacturers can have a true race to the bottom in pricing without having to set it to as close to the rebate threshold as possible
That and selfish me don't want to keep on subsidizing EV buyers lol

That program was mismanaged, it will fail because Cost and R&D target mismanaged
Who approved the budget to do 3 different in dash storage compartments, haptic feedback, and a sliding center console?
Should've used that money to
1) Fix the crappiest shifter in the world - sharp edges and pliable, creaky plastic
2) fuzzy and out of focus looking infotainment
3) Make the haptic feedback on the dash better. If you press buttons faster than once a second you don't get feedback
4) exposed frunk with exposed electrical wiring that snow and water could get into
5) Make the battery heating automatic for DCFC Dealer <> Buyer relationship
Current Altima/Rogue buyers probably not going to get an EV.
Although most of Electify America's stations are kinda in the hood lmao, I don't think home charging is an option for most of Nissan foot traffic

Shameless plug (pls no ban) lol
We are having a sales event this Friday and Saturday, both days 9am to 6pm. We will pay for the GST for all in stock new EVs, meaning
Kona EV Preferred = 5% GST of $46,399 = $2,319 of additional savings
Kona EV Ultimate = 5% GST of $51,199 = $2,559 of additional savings
Ioniq 5 Long Range RWD Preferred = 5% GST of $54,999 = $2,749 of additional savings
Ioniq 5 Long Range AWD Preferred = 5% GST of $56,399 = $2,849 of additional savings
Ioniq 5 Long Range AWD Ultimate = 5% GST of $62,999 = $3,149 of additional savings
This sales event will be lowest price these EVs has ever seen (supposely below cost, but they dont tell us anything), and most likely will seen since the BC rebate will no longer be eligible for these vehicles going forward
Too bad you cant get the 2025 Ioniq 5 with all the updates with the $4K rebate

Those are some pretty good discounts given how ioniq’s had a 2 year wait list just a year ago. That awd ioniq works out to be about 48k OTD after taxes and rebates and discounts, which is the price of a mid trim rav4 hybrid. For those not interested in a Tesla, you probably have to wait for other manufacturers to release a new bargain base trim level that’s unobtainable for 49,999 so their cars qualify again.

^ Ahh this is where the fine print comes in
The price above is MSRP before freight and PDI and Dealer Fees
For example that Ioniq 5 you mentioned:
Ioniq 5 Long Range AWD Preferred
Sales event =
$59,774 (regular price) - $2,849 discount = $56,925 + 12% tax = $63,756 - $9,000 rebate = $54,756 out the door (incluing all fess and taxes and levies etc etc, final price, no other fees or charges)
Official Hyundai.ca website price for the same vehicle =
$59,674 + 12% tax = $66,834 - $9,000 rebate = $57,834
So compared to the official Hyundai.ca price = the sale event pricing saved an additional $3,078 total out the door

Technically true.
Even our dealer is not sure, we are going to be on the safe side and tell all new deals going forward wont have the $4K rebate, we will try our best, but defintely no garuntees, and most likely won't get accepted.
The laguage used by the BC gov is very vague and said grandfathering will work if the deal is ongoing? and must be completed by July 17th (ie delivered and registered under the new owner). So I told all my clients to put in their deposits yesterday, for them we now have credit card transaction receipts with the time stamp of June 17th (defintely before the rule changes so they should all qualify). Deposits were also fully refundable, so at least for my clients, nothing to lose but some wasted time?

Better get that soon as well if you are on the fence.
Rumour has it that Federal wont renew past current deadline, which means
23. What are the timelines for taking advantage of the iZEV Program?
Funding is given on a first-come, first-served basis for eligible vehicles purchased or leased as of the vehicle’s eligibility date listed on Transport Canada’s website, until March 31, 2025. However, the Program may end sooner if available funding is fully exhausted prior to this date.
================================================== ==
Basically, by this time next year, no more $5K federal as well.
Any EV below $50,000 = up to $4,000 BC rebate only
Any EV above $50,000 = $0 rebate
That means if the Ioniq 5 Ultimate stays at current MSRP, it will be close to $74,000 out the door.

Volkswagen just invested a billion in Rivian. That amount could grow to 5 billion. https://www.volkswagen-group.com/en/...-venture-18468

Rivian is burning too much cash.
Unless they get that under control, even at the full 5B, it wouldn't last them much more than a year at the current burn rate of 1.24B per Q based on the last ER.
IMHO, they shouldn't have announced the R2/R3 variants before the R1 refresh. They should have delivered as many as R1 refreshes before announcing R2/R3. Instead, they have basically Osborned any R1 buyer who was sitting on the fence, which usually a refresh could draw them in. Now, depending on what they need, they might wait for R2/3 before pulling the trigger.

There's also some buyers out there who will just buy the R1 while waiting for the R2/3.
I am not a R1 buyer as it's out of my price range but them announcing the R2/3 has given me something to strongly consider over the MY when my M3 is in need of replacement.

The delivery process is PITA .

Why a PHEV works for us right now, we barely use any gas in the month we've gotten it (this is half the usage for my profile). And when we go camping in the Okanagan, we don't have to think about stopping and charging and dealing with entertaining a 1 yr old and a 4yr old for 30 minutes.
I'm just not ready to deal with having to charge as I don't think the infrastructure is quite ready in Canada. The hotel we stayed at in Kelowna last time we went, the charging costs was more than getting gas and 1/3 chargers didn't work. Was listening to the family with a Tesla complaining about it in the lobby.
Side note: these new BMWs are fucking annoying in that you have to have an online profile to setup and save your settings in the car. Why can't they just leave things be and let a car be a car?

Does your car have an active eSIM with an online service connected to BMW servers all day? I'm curious if you disable it (if you can even do that) what happens to your car and profile(s)?
I'm surprised they didn't make you pay a subscription fee for seat heaters. |
