Which is worse. A Toyota Crown or a Tesla? You can only pick one. No Secret Option C.

From a purely branding perspective, I don't see what the INEOS does for me that the Defender doesn't.

I'm sure it's the better off roader, but I haven't seen INEOS really advertise anywhere that would appeal to these audiences while Defender has a huge exhibit at Surf Lodge.

Without having even heard of the INEOS before now, actually make a round trip anywhere? They'd probably have to be actively trying to be less reliable than a Land Rover.

They've got decent presence in the yuppie neighbourhoods and upscale suburbs - nothing really in North American city centers the way Rivian and Lucid have

Some of you guys probably don't care, but the mish-mash of parts bin supplier to build this car is nothing short of a nightmare.

(Sounds like something Badhobz and I would love.)

Compare a truck. With a truck? Lol

At that price point you’re into the Laramie/Lariat trim with any engine you want. An actual capable truck you’re not worried about getting to Kamloops with lol

Yesterday within the span of a couple hours, I rode in a Tesla Model Y (Uber to YUL), and a Toyota Crown (Uber from YYZ).

It is night and day when you compare the two back to back.

Relatively, the Y ride was choppy. Motions were abrupt. Ext/interor finishes & panel weights were hyper cost-efficient.

Whereas the Crown was like a land-yacht. It soaked up the breaks in the pavement like it was nothing. Felt kinda Lexus-like, in terms of plushness, solidness, and tightness to the panels. At least on par with an ES350.

While the full-electric drivetrain in the Y was quieter than the hybrid drivetrain in the Crown, the Crown was overall a lot quieter because it had way less road noise, tighter fitment of interior panels, and softer & thicker interior padding soaking up the echoes.

It was like riding a road bike vs a full-suspension mountain bike.

I think the two vehicles cost basically the same overall. You can really tell where the $s went. Really interesting.

The Crown is still objectively ugly as hell, but after riding in one, I think it's a damn nice car despite that.

From the driver's seat, the Crown is a LOT worse than the ES.
Cheap scratchy plastics everywhere, awful stereo, cornering legitimately felt worse than driving an F-150 (Car and Driver's skidpad results back this up).

YYZ fleets probably use them instead of ES because they come with AWD.

Except the Defender is boring as fuck. Lol. Ineos is on my list of must buy if they get that diesel over here. If all else fails I’ll get a wrangler.

Never said Cape Cod / Hamptons / Aspen where the Defender/Rivian are a dime a dozen is super exciting
but I am saying the Ineos will probably be a niche product

I don't see how a crown interior would be that nice, Corollas have been very shit, just look at gr, even the last Avalon doesn't look amazing and I'm sure it's not as good as Lexus. Unless you talk about JDM crowns, those are Lexus interiors.

My brother came by to check out the X5 yesterday and he had his Lexus charger in the trunk of his car. The Lexus charger is 110V 12a whereas the BMW charger is 110V 10a. Just a minor thing but the NX Prime has a smaller battery and a 20% higher rate

It’s supposed to be a classic Defender replacement. Not exactly a mainstream product…??? It may start off popular as it’s slightly unique, but those that can afford it will likely get bored of the lack of creature comforts their poser suburban lives require. lol. Unless they purchased it for what it’s was built to do? The G wagons finally got popular, because they are luxury now. Lol.

I recommend getting a new Webasto Turbocord off of EBay - it's UL certified, compact, and can do 110V 12A. My Volvo came with one and just picked up another one last week.

Put 5 c-lais in a car, they'll figure it out

Together with dealer guy and some other c-lais who drive Tesla, they figured out every tech-y feature I thought they'd need help with
- 360 Camera
- Tailgate step
- Frunk
- Onboard inverter
- Pre-conditioning
- Public charging app in Ford Sync
- Ford Pass app
- Let's see if they figure out adaptive cruise with stop and go

Charging wise,
- Got a permitted, Tesla universal charger from contractor their friend referred
- Lansdowne charger with its own app/payment/2 stations not working? figured it out
- Let's see how Tesla Supercharging goes when the A2Z/Ford adapter arrives

Some numbers
Standard range battery, 95kWH and 370km rated range.
- Rated range from Ford includes 1000lb payload
- Without trailer, end workday with 65% battery
- With 2.5k lb utility trailer, end workday with 30% battery

With payload and no trailer, 21kWh/100km compared to 21L/100km in a 5.0 F150
- Same EV efficiency I was getting in a Kia EV6 at 120kmh ish
- $31 cheaper per 100km on 120kW DCFC
- $37 cheaper per 100km via home charging

Cost wise, the alternativeswere $800 a month on gas + cost for 48 month lease...
- Maverick Hybrid at $563 but tiny bed and 11L/100km towing
- F150 2.7T 6.5' at $965 but slightly sketchy transmissions
- Tundra 8' at $977 but engines blow up
- F150 Hybrid at $1031 but 68style said they blow up
- F250 8' gas at $1371
- F250 8' diesel at $1563 but still consumes 16L/100km towing

Total cost to run for Lightning ends up being 750+ cheaper/mo than other 1/2 and 3/4 tons

Some more math to find breakeven, all based on 48 month leases

No real feasible breakeven vs Lightning
like... 2000km/month + so we compare to Model 3 SR: $727 and $3.3/100km via Supercharging

Elantra Preferred: $440 + $15/100km = 2100km
Kona Electric: $556 + $5/100km via DCFC = basically never
Prius Prime: $589 and home charging = basically never
Civic Sport: $586 and $15/100km = 1200km
HRV AWD LE: $594 + $17/100km = 1000km
Civic Sport Hybrid: $607 + $7.74/100km = 2500km
Prius AWD: $750 + $7.74/100km = Instant

But...
Lightning XLT Lease after 9k incentive: $860 and $2.2 per 100km at 22kWh and 10c/kwH (home charging)
CX-5 GS: $581 + $17/100km = 1600km
RAV4 XLE Premium Gas: $750 + $17/100km = 650km
Tacoma TRD Off-road 6MT = $814 + $23/100km = 204km
Honda Passport = $833 + $23/100km = 117km
Tacoma TRD Off-road Premium Hybrid: $1060 = Instant

TLDR with incentives and cheap public charging in BC, IMO most people would be best off served buying the cheapest plug-in/EV they can get their hands on.
There is a gap in the 7 seater market, need somethign that's not the EV9/Rivian.
