Can you possibly pick a worse example of a ICE vehicle than a G-wagon tho?
I mean there's almost nothing redeeming about it besides that it's a "status symbol"... drives like shit and guzzles gas in the single digits of mpg.... zero enjoyment of a vehicle there.
I went from a 2014 Hyundai Sonata to a Tesla Model 3, 6 years ago. I looked at it primarily from a fiscal standpoint and came out ahead each month with the Tesla (although the Hyundai had less than a year left on the car payment). The As my car is also my mobile office for work, the Tesla was more comfortable, faster, had better audio (one of my favorite parts of the car), and more.

Ok, but all the other large SUVs or even anything that's not 4banger is not going to be much better.
It's consider to be quite ok gas-wise for a combined mileage of 10L/100km. Actually if one's into truck or mid-full size SUV, it's more like 13L/100km.
So even at 10L/100km, that 70km drive is still 7L of gas. And today is what? 1.8/L? That's still almost $13 worth of gas.
Yeah, some 4banger PHEV can be decently cheap but one still needs to sacrifice power in order to have that. I don't think there's anything currently on the market that does great mileage and has a powerful motor. It's only possible if one drives within the range of the battery. The idea of putting electric drivetrain in a gas guzzler is so that one has a big powerful engine while not being too crazy on gas. But it was never meant to be amazing in gas.
It's true that I don't think any solution is perfect. But if you are taking city driving only... EVs like Tesla, Kia or whatever EV you like that has 250km+ of range is the ultimate city driving machine. They cost cheaper to run than the cost of bus ticket in fuel cost.
The math for EV is simple regardless which EV you pick for city driving.
A roundtrip from South Surrey to Richmond (70km) is easily $25 in gas in my buddy's G-wagon, while his Model S costs maybe $2 on hydro bill?
I don’t think anyone who drives a G wagon gives a shit about gas money. Hell my wife is shopping for a new car for her dad right now and the last thing on her mind is fuel economy. For somebody who doesn’t know anything about cars or cares even, she flatly refused to look at those Fantuan teslas or any other EV for that matter. For her it’s a convenience thing. She doesn’t wanna plug in everyday. She doesn’t want range anxiety.
It's just so simple to me, why make it more complicated ... drive an EV for commute, grocery getting, soccer mom/dad, around town. On long out of town trips, hybrid or ICE. Have 2 cars in the garage. If you can only afford one, get Hybrid.

Like the Wrangler, objectively shitty but tbh kind of fun if you're a silly person.
Wrangler (4XE or 392) is low key in the top 10 of the 150ish cars I've driven

Well my point was moreso that cost of driving is not a position most car enthusiasts take, so while it may make economic sense to convert to EV based on your day-to-day requirements for driving, it's kind of hard to argue it from a car enthusiast standpoint.
I guess it depends what floats your boat. If you assign more HP to tech or straight line acceleration from a stop, then you'll be happy. If you like shifting gears and hearing an engine then you won't be.
I only commented because a G-wagon is a mystifying purchase for anyone to make, it's literally a useless vehicle to anyone besides social status / image seekers. The Jeep Alsulzer mentions above probably drives about the same, but at least you can take a Jeep offroad somewhat carefree or do stuff with it... can you imagine a G63 with steamroller tires trying to navigate a couple of rocks on a service road at $354,000 after taxes LOL
For the Wrangler the 4XE was kinda nerdy but I felt like I was taking my cake and eating it.
A convertible I'm driving at 4L/100km with free charging, 300/month lease, don't have to plan for road trips.

The X5 is the much better car - the 4XE is mostly for goofs like me who really want the convertible. The live axles jiggling the car wears on me by week 2 of every rental
Base X5 40i and X6 40i from Sixt -20s on the Bridgestone Alenzas.
Premium Pack, Parking Assist Pack, Climate Comfort Pack + Multi-contour seats.
No executive/M/driving assist pack, no massaging seats, no air suspension.
Do the 45/50e come with air?
The X5 / X6 40i were not available with air suspension in the last few model years due to parts shortage - they were reserved for the M50/60i and 45e/50e. I believe they're available again for the 40i starting with MY25.
I’d say the best thing about my model Y was not dealing with dealers, having to haggle with sales, getting hounded by the finance manager to buy paint protection and service. The hassle of plugging it in every day is nothing compared to going to gas stations or the dealer for oil changes.
I’d never use an EV for road trips (I don’t like planning my charges) but for a daily they are amazing.
FWIW I know i'm in the minority with smooth purchase exp, my car shopping usually goes like..
1) Contact the Open Road fleet guy (Ted?)
2) Sort out paperwork beforehand with his assistant
3) On the Honda/Ford/Toyota, buy extended warranty if you want it from another dealer
For Ford, you can get the same warranty for ~800 CAD that they're asking 1900 CAD for from US side dealer....
For Toyota, you also can buy from a US based dealer.
For Honda, HondaPlus is listed $788 above cost so just offer some finance guy 88 above cost lol
For most makes, you can buy a Mopar vehicle protection plan from Ontario dealer that prices very aggressively.
What’s so bad about the dealership experience ? I love it.
They always treat me like a king.
Like when I bought my ratrolla it was a great experience. Yah I didn’t get a penny off but that’s okay, it was 2022 and the market was insane. I’m glad I didn’t pay over msrp.
With the gti it was great too. I got some money off, worked out a really insane lease deal and no added bullshit. It wasn’t hard to turn people down on additional packages.

No air on the 40, air is standard on the 45/50e. I'm not sure about M50/60.
If the standard suspension or DHP is like the sport mode on air and stiffer, yeah I can see that it would be jarring around town, especially in NYC or the freeways with the fucked up joints.
Wait, so how do you qualify for fleet? I assume you buy a few cars from him a year? How does it work actually?
Oh and shameless plug, all dealers are being aggressive now...
For all the in stock 2024 EVs that no longer qualifies for the BC Rebate, our dealer will cover the $4,000, so you basically get 2024 May pricing for
Kona EV Ultimate

He gave me a call when we submitted a unhaggle thing for a 2015 Camry back in the day and we’ve always just contacted him ever since. He’ll do individual deals even on base model LE RAV4s. It’s not so much for the pricing because you can do better with demo units or whatever, but for how quickly we’re in and out of his office with 0 BS
