BRB purchasing hooked on fonix

https://electricautonomy.ca/automake...-2025-id-buzz/

Canadian pricing for the ID Buzz - starts at $77,495 and comes with 377km of range. Oof. Lotta money for not a lotta range. The Euro SWB model gets about 40km more range so not too surprising I guess

AstulzerRZD 08-21-2024 07:21 AM

no tax credit in us cuz batteries are foreign, 60k base so probably 66 for AWD.
sienna is 38-52, carnival hybrid 40-53, plugin pacifica at 52, ev9 at 45-62k.

WTF VW?

68style 08-21-2024 07:28 AM

But people vill love ze retro styling!!1!

It's just like Cammisa says, the Germans largely just don't understand packaging or marketing especially when it comes to North America.

There was at least 1 or 2 users on RS before that are active bus drivers I think right? I'm curious what their thoughts are on the Proterra collapse mentioned in this article... and opinion of the new purchases.

AstulzerRZD 08-21-2024 07:36 AM

Price is cracked but if ur upgrading from a gas van (New Odyssey/Pacifica are 56 and get 15L/100km), after 4 years you're spending 70k anyways.

The Sienna doesn't exist with the 2 year waitlist... especially if Canadian dollar keeps getting weaker and they send even less over the border.

underscore 08-21-2024 07:37 AM

I know everything is expensive now but 77k entry price is absurd. Compared to the Odyssey that's ~86k worth of gas.

radeonboy 08-21-2024 07:38 AM

The announced pricing is for a loaded '1st Edition' model as a way to capture sales to those that are willing to pay first. I expect VW to release cheaper models once the waitlist filters through. That pricing doesn't look good from a marketing perspective though, especially knowing that fans / waitlist holders are eagerly waiting for this info.

I can see these selling well if put something out in the mid-high $60k range as a way to compete against the EV9 in the "affordable" 3-row EV space.

Curious as well.

The price for "big" EVs is pretty insane until you consider what fueling a larger car (or even bus) costs.

Our Lightning is a "free" truck cuz we were spending $900 in gas a month on our 5.0 F150.

I feel like the Pro AWD version that'll probably arrive next year will still run ~$65-70

but after the 9k tax credit, at 61 + charging, it's going to come out cheaper than an Odyssey with leatherette by year 2.

JDMDreams 08-21-2024 10:04 AM

Ahhh yes tax those China cars so our suckers must buy our crappier over priced evs. Gotta keep that inflation going.

Hehe 08-21-2024 10:08 AM

Car prices are ridonculous nowadays. I just saw a Range Rover for something crazy like 450k on FB. I was like, seriously?! This is the other RR territory in my head.
