I'm not sure what you guys expect though from a large EV.

It's roughly inline with almost everything else once you consider the 1st edition BS. You really don't have a lot of choice for a 7 seat EV and they know that. until Tesla makes a real 7 seater, and the rest of the manufacturers jump in, this is the reality.

And I don't think that many companies are jumping into this space because they know the market isn't huge, most ppl that buy 7 seaters buy once and keep them for a long time unless they total it.

TBH Elon caught a TON of shit for including the gas savings when showing the purchase price of a Tesla, but I think it's really fucking genius.
They gotta do this for winter and summer range/charging as well.

Everyone complaining about the current cost of EV trucks / 7 seaters would STFU if they were given a number to compare.

ID Buzz: 69696 next year when they're selling more than the first edition
Less: 9000 in Federal and Provincial Incentives
Less: 13500 gas savings over 3 years vs. Odyssey at 15000km/yr
= 47196 after Est. Savings vs odyssey or 54196k when compared to Sienna if you can get one
150km in 15 minutes summer charging

Subaru Solterra: 48996
Less: 9000 in Federal and PRovincial Inventives
Less: 8100 gas savings over 3 years vs. Rav4
= 31896
75km in 15 minutes summer charging, 30km in 15 minuets winter charging

Chevy Silverado: 83870
Less: 5000 in Federal and Provincial Incentives
Less: 21000 gas savings over 3 years
= 57870
300km in 15 minutes charging summer, 200km winter, 150km summer towing.

Do you get full $9000 off at $69696? I thought it cuts at $5xxxx that's why you can't get the performance or AWD Tesla

the limit on minivans is 70k, so you'd get the 4k at 69696

Showing a flat number is pretty misleading though, there's at least 4 variables involved in generating that number and it's different for everyone.

Our Lightning is a "free" truck cuz we were spending $900 in gas a month on our 5.0 F150.
Not surprised at the collapse of Proterra. Edmonton Transit bought 60 of the Proterra buses and majority of them are not in service. Huge mechanical disaster, bus body structural issues, doesn't get advertised range.

TransLink is taking a slow approach, they're only electrifying one of the bus routes which is the 100, running between 22nd station and Marpole Loop

Unfortunately NovaBus was awarded the contract to build 15 electric buses. Supposedly it gets 150km of range. The original demonstrator model in 2019 only gets 40km of range.

My biggest beef with Nova Buses in general is the overall build quality. It rides like shit because of the short wheel base, it rattles like a kid viciously shaking a piggy bank.

You are both right, but the rule changed pretty dramatically back in June.

BC govt excluded a lot of vehicles out of "Larger vehicles" category, as of today, the only "larger vehicles" under $70,000 that gets the $4,000 are
2023 + 2024 Ford F150 Lightning standard range
2023 + 2024 Chrysler Pacifica PHEV

Some of the vehicles that were removed from the $70,000 list back in June are
Model Y RWD
Model Y AWD
Model Y Performance
Ioniq 5 all trims
ID.4 AWD all variants (now just the base base base rwd gets it)
Kona EV Ultimate
Ariya AWD all variants (same as ID.4, just the base FWD gets it)
Bz4X/Solterra AWD all variants
Mach E all variants

So yea.... pretty slim pickings, for new EVs, to get the full $9000, the list is only
2025 Hyundai Kona EV Preferred (base trim) + Trend (1 trim above base)
2025 Nissan Leaf SV (base trim) + SV Plus (1 trim above base)
2025 Kia Niro EV Wind (base trim) + Wind Plud (1 trim above base)
2024 Tesla Model 3 RWD (base trim)
2024 Fiat 500e (227km range)
2024 Nissan Ariya Engage FWD (348km range)
2024 Toyota bZ4X LE FWD
2024 Mini Cooper SE (183km range)
2024 Chevrolet Equinox FWD (513km range) damn, never knew lol
2024 VW ID.4 RWD Base RWD (332km range)
2024 Mazda MX-30 GS (161km range)

11 EVs in total, 5 of them dont even break 350KM range at 100%, and most of these want you to charge at 80% except for Tesla LFP battery which you can keep at 100%......

================================================== ================

Shameless plug... Anyone interested in a cancelled unit?

Brand new
2024 Hyundai Tucson (not 2025)
Plug-in Hybrid
Ultimate trim
White exterior
Gray 2-tone interior
Must be picked up by month end~

No, not at MSRP, $2500+tax on top (Ceramic Paint + All weather floor front + rear + trunk mats) ~

Out the door price = $54,712 + 12% tax = $61,277 - $7,000 rebate = $54,277 out the door

Hyundai.ca official Hyundai Canda website = $51,442 out the door

The big asterisk for GM Ultium and Hyundai/Kia car is fast charging will be limited to like 80-100kW on superchargers (even tho they can do 150kW or 230kW at 800V).
To fix this, either..

1) Tesla rolls out more v4 supercharger that can do 800V
2) GM/Hyundai update their electricity converty thingy

The 100% tariff on China-made EVs is not a bad thing though. Given how crucial the auto manufacturing sector is in Canada (esp in Ontario), the repercussions to not take action is gonna be huge.

I am sad though that Volvo and Polestar would almost certainly be heavily affected. I hope they'd have excess capacity to build them elsewhere in the world, or we won't be getting their cars here at all.

Sure, but the problem is politicians want to say climate change is an existential threat to our existence.

If so, does protecting a segment of the market (American car manufacturers, and by extension Canadian) warrant the artificial raising of EV car prices potentially out of reach of many Canadians, and thus stagnating the overall adoption of EVs from ICE vehicles?

If a meteor was flying to Earth and we were all going to die in a year or two, would we be arguing about which country gets the contract and funding to destroy the damn thing?

It's these types of tariffs on affordable EVs is what makes these politician's doom and gloom scenarios about climate change and mandated EV adoption by 2035 seem so damn hallow.
