Did they steal design queues from the first generation 970 Porsche Panamera's rear end?

I don't think any 4 cylinders sound particularly good. The EA888 sounds terrible, The B48 is uninspiring. I don't think you can even hear the MB regular 4 cylinder

I think the B48 in Cooper S/JCW trim is a lot of fun; agreed it’s generally boring tho.

The prev gen Toyota 4s were pretty smooth; just the Dynamic Force NA and turbo ones that sound really bad

^ We test drove the B38 Cooper and the B48 Cooper S before buying the Cooper. I wasn't convinced by the S at all. After owning the X3 for almost 5 years, the B48 in it was just an engine.

The B58 though, in the X5, even in it's detuned state, it's great.

I wonder if my rental had other options then - came on summer tires too.

I know this sounds crazy and B58 was very smooth and sounded great at full throttle - half or lower it kind of sounds like a J or 2GR to me $♂️

GF loved getting into a car that's already warm in the morning but running heat even when u warm the car up on the house's power cuts range about 10-15%.

Fast charge times on EV6 doubled from 20 minutes to 35ish for 400km and that's with 10 minutes of pre-conditioning. 30 minutes supposedly gets you full charge speed but burns 5% battery.

I did it cuz I'm cheap lol, $9 to go 1000km.

Doing some math...

500 km stated range, 450 when cold, 400 on winter tires, and 350 if you add snow / heavy rain adding resistance?
Charge times are from 10-80% or 70% of battery...

So winter range is 245km or 3 hours of driving for every 35-40 minutes of charging.
Summer is 350km or 4 hours of driving for every 20 minutes of charging.
I was checking the stats on my Model Y which is the primary daily for the wife.

300kwh consumed for the month and was only driven 600km

The main culprit is the car is set to pre condition in the morning before dropping off the kids to school, and also a short distance to her work. On top of that she likes to blast the heat. Sentry mode is also active.

I was getting 3.2mi/kwh so 190kwh or so
There was a level 1 and a the original charge it left with not shown on there

Cabin heating uses 2kwh on the Ioniq and battery heating uses 2.25ish for 30 mins.

Wall power isn't enough to run the heater - like A_RZD says above the cabin heater eats 2kw or so.

Short answer is, we're in the 2009 smartphone era rn.
We gotta thing about things we really shouldn't have to think about.

We have bangers that live up to promise (Silverado/Sierra, Porsche)
We have bangers of yesterday (Tesla do be like BlackBerry)
We have those who are about to die (VW without Rivian, Honda/Toyota are like Nokia if their solid state batteries don't show up, Hyundai/Kia if their app keeps sucking etc.)

Long answer is, depends on the charger and car you have.
Pre-condition can be many things - enable regen, cabin, fast charge, etc but they all involve some sort of setup smh.

Most will precondition cabin off wall power, some will allow off battery too (up to 2.5kw with heatpump, up to 6kw otherwise).
Some will also precondition the battery to drive well (Ford, Tesla, NOT Hyundai/Kia) (up to 6kw).

For fast charging, even if you pre-condition at home, might need to re-condition mid trip if it's cold/hot outside (up to 6kw).
Tesla/GM's Android Auto built in nav or Rivian/Lucid/Ford integration with CarPlay nav should make this automatic.
Hyundai/Kia u need to use the built in nav.

Yeah and Tundra are breaking their seat bases and engine, Tacoma breaking transmission, Honda L15 breaking head gasket, etc.

For PHEV/EV tho, 12V battery seem to have affected everyone from Jeep, Toyota, Hyundai, Kia, Tesla, etc.

This

Before getting a Tesla wall charger, I was charging off of the 110 outlet. Knowing that on colder days I would try to charge the car to 92%, at least that way when the car is getting preconditioned, the state of charge would drop down to about 88% when plugged into the wall outlet. If it wasn't plugged, then it would drop down further

Now that I have a Tesla wall charger, I don't have to worry about the battery dropping down while it's plugged in. It will either maintain the same battery charge or gain a couple of percent

I think in Vancouver can get away with pre-conditioning without a plug at home (cuz it doesn't get too cold). Does Tesla let you do that? I know Ford does.

Van's shorter trips means less chance highway aero, snow resistance, and slower fast charging mess up your experience.

F series, I don't remember seeing any S2000 that I thought sounded good.

TBF to Honda, I find most aftermarket exhausts pretty obnoxious. You go on Youtube and FB and ask what's a good exhaust, 90% of the time the response is whatever that makes the most noise.

Not counting exotics, very rarely do I hear a car and think oh my that sounded good. One standout was a riced out Ridgeline, the other is a Legacy/Liberty H6 build from Australia.

I think my M3 sounds like shit most of the time. It sounds bad stock with it's raspy unequal length pipes. I changed it to equal length and it sounds better when I'm on it, but when I'm driving slow it now farts like a Honda.

Ahh we are back to this topic!!!

So I must let my Nissan fanboy get out!

I know I know it's not a 4 cylinder but.... VQ35 VQ35 VQ35 in the 350Z and G35 era... stock was best... i hate how people have to straight pipe the VQ... stock VQ exhaust was soooo good... and also so distinctive...

Interesting to hear that you think of Honda engines this way.

I find the B and F series engines to be pretty meh when you are just doing normal driving. But as soon as VTEC kicks in (yo~), it's music to my ears even with just the stock exhaust.

K series, on the other hand... even with the K20Z3, I find the VTEC sound not too engaging. The intake noise is very distinct, but it isn't a good sounding kind of distinct -- it's just loud and distinct. But the K engine is super smooth and always feels solid.

[edit] I love the VQ35 stock noises too lol~ (at least in stock form) But somehow things went downhill with VQ37, and I just couldn't understand why. Shouldn't they be similar enough?!

I love the K24A2 in the 1G TSX - for a commodity motor it was so smooth and easy going. There isn't a modern commodity 4 cylinder that's as nice to drive as that nearly 20 year old motor. All the comparable current 4 cylinders from Mazda, Toyota, Nissan etc are trashy compared to it. I never get bored of driving it (FIL has my TSX now) even when it tied to a 5 speed auto.

The K20C in my RDX is pretty meh - it doesn't help that they pipe in fake sounds that try to make it sound like a bigger engine but the fake sounds are just covering up how boring the engine is (relatively speaking).
