ehh I saw the VW bangbus at the LA autoshow and it's quite spacious and cool.
Dont forgot that 78k used to be the price of the model Y in 2021 and people bought those in droves.

^ I don't think charge speed is a issue here with Tesla as there's super charger, and it works, I don't think I've heard of anyone that owns a Tesla bitch that they don't charge fast enough, just that they are too cheap to install 240v.

Meanwhile all other legacies rely on public stations that barely exist, that doesn't really work and the chargers are always broken still? Or you can't get the software to work?

Yeah the lightning is just plug and charge like a Tesla - no app needed for supercharger.

Tesla advantage imo is actually their OS - maps routes you to supercharger and predicts exact % you’ll arrive at; makes it brainless.

BMW/GM or Volvo via Google/Rivian/lucid are getting close tho.

Charge speed matters when u got kids/friends/girlfriend with you.
Tesla’s slow curve gets worse when cold - took 1hr+ in Tahoe cuz charge rate halves when it’s just -15C outside.

If I was in a GM truck it’d be 15 minute stop - 250kw average even when cold compared to 45 on Tesla.

FWIW Electrify Canada/America is now very reliable;

BMW did an OTA update for the X5 recently. The software was supposed to provide more robust reporting of the electric drivetrain. All I've found so far is that the new software is buggy.

The instant kw/100km bar gets all twitchy sometimes after the update
The EV range estimate is showing full battery range when the battery is not full - typically happens on a quick 2nd trip where I dropped off a kid and the car was off for about 10 minutes.
The range remaining calculation is now more optimistic than before, whereas it was much more accurate before the update.

All in all a 0/10

Rip

New lightning update got range factored into the google maps calculation.

Haven’t road tripped it so no clue if it’s good at selecting chargers that are reliable

Even Stellantis' gen 1 battery tech is beating Tesla.
20-80% (60kw) in 23 minutes means 156kw.
62% higher charge rate than Model Y (50 kw in 31 minutes, 96kw average)

AstulzerRZD have you tried BMW IX? The facelift one has promise with efficiency upgrades. Still 400v though

Need to try.

Really liked iDrive 9 on the X5 I drove - I didn't even plug in/connect Carplay.

Heard their hands off new highway driving assist is best of the crop - super consistent and easy to use whereas SuperCruise was a bust.

Don't rly need 800V if it's 20 mins 20-80. iX and Lightning both give you a few minutes of max charge rate even if you plug in above 40%.

Don't rly need efficiency either if it charges fast - efficient EV range numbers rly get affected by wind/speed/winter tires/etc.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLfrPBeMnKk
this is also 400v

I charge like gas car user: 25-80%, 15 minute breaks near good food

assume double the quoted times at 3C and below

That's in the US though, and it seems to me that the US often has far better leasing deals, esp with EVs.

Mid 50s tech enthusiast dad that doesn’t socialize too much but geeks out over their tools, luxury, and probably dislikes elon.

If they were more social/less old school they’d be in a rivian

But you don’t think it’s like stealth wealth to driving something that ugly ? It’s like showing contempt for your fellow drivers but assaulting their eyes.
