Here's an even more insane idea. How about not spend $60000 on a depreciating asset, sell your town house, buy a detached or townhouse or duplex with a proper garage, then you can charge at home, have storage for even more cars, more race car parts, then buy a full EV and save the environment even more, and possibly have basement to rent out for even more $ for car activities

Edit: I'm finding it hard to find the electric/hybrid cost savings.
Consumption numbers:
EV:5km/km
EV SUV or Truck: 3km/kwh
PHEV SUV: 1.5km/kwh
EV truck tow 9000lb at highway speed is like 1.6-7km/kwh
PHEV SUV are so inefficient they use more energy than this.
Fuel cost per kWh:
Home: 15c
Public PHEV charging (older 3kw model):60c
Public PHEV charging (7kw): 30c
Public EV fast charging (Vancouver): 25-35c
Public EV fast charging (USA): 55c
Yeah, but at $1500+ a pop that's a hard pill to swallow. I'm going to have to figure out if I can get rentals of full size SUV or trucks for cheap like what RZD mentioned.
Where is it $1500? A 1 ton from Enterprise Trucks for 4 days with 800km and towing included is $356 + $0.20/km extra.
And if you don't need to tow you can buy a Macan for less than the Cayenne and the rentals are free anyways.

See my math a few posts back

I checked the local Enterprise truck rental, $400+tax for a 4-day rental, call it $200 for extra mileage (they give 200km per day, roughly 1500km for total trip given the running around to pick up trailer etc) and then another $450 + tax for U-Haul trailer rental. Plus gas etc... so that adds up to $1200 for the towing rental. That makes the track day far more expensive.

Yes let me convince my wife to spend 1,600k instead of 60k

Wouldn't you need to rent a trailer either way? Even with the rear seats down I don't think an S2000 fits into the trunk of a Cayenne.
edit: I missed the longer distance, for some reason I thought you said it was 600km to the track. Even with the added mileage the truck should be ~$500.

Trailer doesn’t get hit by extra mileage fees or fuel costs.
Edit: I was told fuel costs would be higher than my estimate. 10mpg :|
I got 82$ per day plus fees and taxes for Enterprise for a 3/4ton

I have a wild idea.. that is definitely not environmentally friendly.. but the value prop is in the savings
2025 Cayenne E-Hybrid ranges from 150K -160K per AutoTrader. A 2021/2020 goes for around 60-70K.
An X5 35d goes for around $30K. According to fuelly, it ~ 9L/100km. Diesel and premium gas (91) prices are more or less the same (within a 10c var). Without doing the math, you'd save on the actual purchase cost of the vehicle (~30-40K) and per tank cost (~8L/100km).
@AstulzerRZD can you pls do the math?
Edit: I'm finding it hard to find the electric/hybrid cost savings.
I did my own math. $4113 for 24, 713 km = $0.16/km ... on my CTR.
The diesels are getting to the age where they are starting to show a lot of problems. I'd shy away from a BMW diesel that's older than 6 years.

EDIT: I have driven the Cayenne, but not a recent X5. Cayenne has that Porsche magic to it, which is nuts in a SUV.

Not to mention the uphill fight I'm going to have with her regarding diesel "pollution" and "not hybrid", as well as the difference in interior from a 2018 X5 (I think that's the latest diesel) to a G05 one.
EDIT: Oh forgot, her assertion that X5 is "too large"
I've actually never driven a regular X5, only the PHEV. Ditto the Cayenne. The Cayenne ehybrid brake pedal is super weird and will take some getting used to.
BMW did a much better job with the blended brake pedal, but then they also only got it to feel more natural because there's actually no crossover. The moment you are on the brakes you are partially on the friction brakes, there is never a crossover from pure regen to friction brakes when on the brake pedal. Also adds to the inefficiency of the BMW PHEV.
BMW drivetrain calibration is also ahead of Porsche, but the body control and steering is better on the Cayenne. Hence why as a daily, the BMW PHEV is a better driver, but a pure gasser the Cayenne all the way. That's if you can stomach the price.
You will be finding it hard to land a X5 45e even with 60k unless it's got more than 60k mileage on it, probably more. You can forget about the Cayenne. The closest I think I saw the X5 45e was a 2021 with 40k on it in the summer for 67k. Premium Enhanced, Msport.
The lowest mileage one was a Premium essential 2022 and nothing else, 18k mileage asking for 71k.
She's not driving it, I'd would ignore her lol. Dont' come to me when you guys have a fight lol

Ah it was the dates. When I put those in it's the same price. Fuel probably isn't great either way, anything is going to suck more of it when there's 5k behind it.
Really it's a moot point if you like the Cayenne, I'm just saying if there's something else you like better I wouldn't pass up on it just for more towing capacity when you only need it 2-3x a year. Just knock a bit off your purchasing budget and set that aside for the tow rental.

How much does a trailer and insurance cost? Can't you just buy one and dump it somewhere on the street since there's insurance?
Depending on how bougie you go, anywhere from 7-8k (regular aluminium trailer) to 20+k for the ultralight trailers. Insurance isn't all that much.

RZD has got it right there with the numbers
Funnily enough there's a 2019 Cayenne E-Hybrid locally...
I told her if she drove she'd get a bigger say and I got the side eye. I'm going to have watch out in my sleep tonight.

If I can get the hybrid requirement out of the way there's a lot more options, it's what I'm trying to do lol.

So which years is the safe years to get the hybrid beetles? I was tempted by a panamera hybrid or cayenne hybrid so you can get hov. Be a troll and get a slight smaller looking cayenne coupe.
Can't you just buy one and dump it somewhere on the street since there's insurance?
No you can't actually. Not sure about Roastpuff's muni. bylaws, but in Richmond my ex-boss got ticketed several times LMFAO. Also, high chance it gets stolen, even with a wheel lock etc.

You cannot just leave a trailer anywhere in any of the munis. There's a limit of 3 days iirc for residential streets.
@roastpuff - I have a hybrid synergy badge if you need it
It almost feels like it's yolo time. Go find a X5 M50 with a hitch, pick it up and just enjoy it. It's very likely the next gen X5 won't come in V8 other than a full fat X5M, and that's going to be approaching 200k after tax. The current M5C is something like 140-160 already.
Stick the hybrid synergy drive badge on it and your wife won't know any better. The noises it makes? It's fake engine noise.
Tesla raised the price for the current Model Y by $1,000
Therefore all Model Y's do not qualify for the federal rebate
