The main issue with these Outlander PHEVs seems to be that they can't start when they sit outside cold. Reportedly the cutoff is -20C, but people are also saying it varies. And apparently leaving the charger plugged in + block heater for the ICE doesn't help. There are a lot of complaints out there about it.

The "solutions" are to either wait it out or tow into a garage lol.

That's a great tip, thanks I'll try that next. The other thing I'd noticed was that I can almost never manually put the vehicle in EV mode. Keeps saying "EV mode unavailable". Maybe it's because I've always had the HVAC set to 17C lol.

25C seems pretty toasty, but it's worth a shot!

Teriyaki 01-23-2025 08:06 AM

Thats going to completely tank their demand no?

Hehe 01-23-2025 08:39 AM

Well, thanks to our snow peso, it was a matter of time.

And wait for all the other manufacturers to follow suit. They all hedge their currencies vs. USD since most parts are priced in USD.

dark0821 01-23-2025 10:44 AM

NooooOooOOooOOOooo

See, once again, I shouldve just M3P when I had the chance... longer I wait... the more expensive it gets~

JDMDreams 01-23-2025 11:55 AM

Time to just buy used local or JDM import. I doubt it makes sense to justify ev now with no discounts + higher price and high %

Badhobz 01-23-2025 12:02 PM

I’m still waiting for my royal lounge alphard. Not the 08 one cuz it’s one gen too old. But the one afterwards.

JDMDreams 01-23-2025 12:42 PM

08 is transition year. Had old and new second Gen. I haven't seen any second Gen Royal lounge or hybrids yet.

Ready for bj lounge

I guess this is where Badhobz seals a deal on multiple Porsches.

if you have it set to 28c and above, the ICE engine rarely shuts off

theres 2 ev modes, the button is used when your engine is already warm and you press it, only good for parking lots and low speed stuff and the other ev mode is when your cruising below 65km/h and light load and the ICE will turn off and become EV mode

dark0821 01-24-2025 07:59 AM

Last call anyone still want a Tucson PHEV with the $5K rebate?

It's been popular in Europe for about a decade now; seems fine if not a bit underpowered on highway.

It supports 60kw DC fast charging so it refills in 30 minutes; compared to RAV4 Prime doing 3kw fast charging for 5 hour refill.

The Macan EV is not selling at all. I was visiting PCV to inquire about the GT3 Touring (400k after taxes WTF) and the sales I know said there's almost no interest in the Macan EV. But there also isn't much advertising of it.

Other than the Taycan, which also isn't selling, Porsche hasn't done much to put their electric offerings on the front page.

Doesn't help that the car starts at $100k and hovers around $125k with a few needed options. That puts it in R1S / Model X Plaid / Gravity price territory while being Model Y in size. Weirdly enough I've seen more Macan EVs in Hong Kong than here.

Anyhow, here are some photos of new EVs from my recent HK trip. The Chinese EVs are arriving in full force here and are reasonably priced for the market.

only the old farts in HK prefer the Chinese brand EV.

Toyota (gas), Mercedes (gas) and Tesla are still the top choices here.

JDMDreams 02-15-2025 10:55 AM

What's needed for China evs to come in? Crash testing? All this tariffs talks makes me want one even more.

Canada has a 106.1% tariff on China EV's.

As of October 1, 2024, Canada has a 100% tariff on Chinese-made electric vehicles (EVs). This tariff applies in addition to the 6.1% Most-Favored Nation (MFN) import tariff

JDMDreams 02-15-2025 04:50 PM
